Slowly kills you while watching it
Czes23 January 2005
The latest movie of András Jeles called József és testvérei. It's hard to write anything about this movie because it is very hard to watch. There are two stories in this movie (if we can talk about story): first one is a story from the Peasant Bible told slowly, and only with shadows. Everything told in this line of story is presented only with shadows - it's a very interesting idea, and it works - for about five minutes. Because after this period the viewer became disinterested, because he can't understand what's happening in the screen. The story is told in a rare accent, what's very hard to understand. The another storyline is about a girl becoming a sex-slave, presented by a night-vision camera. These green scenes aren't easier to watch than the Peasant Bible's, because of the bad picture made by the night-vision camera and some old maid's repeating everything what the characters saying. I don't know what was the conception of this movie, but I know that almost everybody, who watch this film, will hate it. Because it wasn't made for us, viewers. It was made for itself. For making something. It doesn't matter, what. And I say that as a fan of slow movies.
