- One street, two restaurants. Five cooks, a feisty maitresse d' and a feral dishwasher. The scene is set for love and war-in the kitchen, and the bedroom. R&R's Restaurant, run by Rita, Ruth and fiery Argentine Carmelita is a chick affair. Across the road at Snatch and Grab, it's Boys' Town, with root rat head chef Gabe, Indian Love God Sachin and the scruffy Dishpig at the sink. Luckily Raffa is there as front of house to water down the testosterone. And so the battle lines are drawn. It's boys vs girls. Friend vs friend. Competition may be tricky, but together The Cooks offer great food, sexual energy and laughs.
- The Cooks is about two inner-city Sydney restaurants and the staff that run them, mostly in their early twenties. Gabe (Toby Schmitz) is a ruthless head chef of the "Snatch and Grab" restaurant who has just returned from a stint working the kitchens of Europe. Running the competing restaurant (R and R) directly across the road is his ex-girlfriend Ruth (Kate Atkinson). Then there's Gabe's mate and chef Sachin (Nicholas Brown) who is seeing Carmelita (Emma Lung) who works as a waitress and a chef in the "R and R" restaurant. The environment created by working in a restaurant ensures that the characters explore the connection between sex, simmering relationships and the steamy kitchens they work in.
