Sex & Nudity

  • A lot of nude people during an orgy in a state of delirium. They are shown, however, from a distance.
  • The strangulated corpse of a beautiful young woman is undressed by a young man, but not for sexual intentions, although her breasts and genitals are shown clearly more than once. He rubs her naked body several times to get her scent for his perfume.
  • Nude corpses of about a dozen young women are discovered one by one, after their murders. These are shown briefly and not in closeup.

Violence & Gore

  • Very brief flashes of dead animal related gore in an 18th-century marketplace.
  • A woman is hanged. She is seen with a noose around her neck and then she drops offscreen.
  • Several children unsuccessfully try to smother an infant.
  • A woman beats several children.
  • A woman's throat is slit in the distance, then her bloody face is seen in closeup.
  • A person tries to boil a dead cat.
  • Several innocent people are shot accidentally in a montage. No blood.

Profanity

  • Intense Francophobia is prevalent throughout, including calling French people "smelly".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • People are shown drinking wine at a party.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The main character spreads a waxy substance on female corpses and later scrapes this with a spatula.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • The main character comes to a realization in which he regrets murdering his victims. He imagines a possibility where he could have spared his first victim and made love to her instead of taking her life. There's a brief scene of him laying on top of her while she caresses his face. Afterward he is utterly guilt stricken and becomes suicidal.
  • There is a scene of orgy near the final scene, with men and women who are intoxicated by the smell of the finally created perfume. Kisses and sex is involved. Some are partially and some are fully naked.

Violence & Gore

  • The main character kills several young women. The first one is by accidental strangulation and is an unintentional murder similar to Of Mice and Men (1992) Lenny's killing a young beautiful lady. The following killings are deliberately committed but are not shown in graphic detail.
  • A group of homeless people pile up around a man and rip him apart until there's nothing left. There are just one or two brief flashes of blood and gore, but this scene still is potentially disturbing.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The final perfume is highly intoxicating.
