Four and half years into Baywatch's wildly successful TV show, we are treated to an extra special episode of Baywatch. Acknowledging their unique role in society, the Baywatch production team hangs ten with this laugh-at-ourselves episode. Rescue Bay demonstrates Baywatch's moment-in-time glory, showcasing all that is great about Southern California's lifeguard lifestyle. Baywatch legend Jeff Altman appears in the third of his seven stumbling, bumbling, quirky guy role. The actors spoofing the "real life" Baywatch lifeguards, and other characters make this episode a real treat.

I know what BW is having grown up watching it as a pre teen. But now revisiting it in boredom I love the popcorn storylines and pathetic "action" sequences. But this ep. In particular is funny b/c it is actually ahead of its time in being meta w/ the TV producer having the same initials D. B "Don Bran" which is the first initial of the actual producer David and the last initial of the two minor producers. "Berk and Bonnan". However the funniest is the Male vs Female setup when Matt and Summer are trying to talk about what sex is better at the job and Summer says "women are because they have instincts and solve a problem before there is one". By far the most illogical claim I have ever heard. How could anyone M/F "SOLVE" a problem before there is one? Perhaps one could identify a problem on the cusp and take action to stop it. But one could never "solve" before. Just saying.

I don't usually recommend people to see Baywatch episodes but this particular is well worth watching because of its tongue in cheek look at the production of a TV show, "Rescue Bay", about lifeguards on a beach in Malibu. The show includes a cast that is chosen more because of their looks than acting skills: Dolph Apolganger is the lifeguard lieutenant Mike Tower, police officer Sly Hutchinson is patrolling the beach with a revolver that would impress Harry Callahan and we have the budding romance between two of the lifeguards, a perky blonde and a beefcake.

"Rescue Bay" also includes a lot of female lifeguards running around on the beach in skimpy swimwear. Finally the Baywatch cast shows that they don't take themselves and the show too seriously.
