As he takes the stage at the 96th Academy Awards for a fourth time, Jimmy Kimmel once again took a playful quip at the Oscar winner Matt Damon. The talk show host and the Hollywood star’s fake feud has been ongoing for years, with Kimmel even poking fun at the Oppenheimer actor in his promo for the 2024 Oscars. And he took things to the next level with the help of the Anatomy of a Fall star, Messi the Dog, who took a piss at Damon’s Walk of Fame Star at the Oscars.

Messi the Dog, the Anatomy of a Fall star and awards season darling, did, in fact, make an appearance at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday.
A source had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Messi would not be appearing at the Academy Awards after his Los Angeles press tour that saw him attend the Oscars nominees luncheon and partake in a press junket.
The dog’s surprise appearance during the 2024 Oscars took place within the first few minutes of the telecast, as returning host Jimmy Kimmel kicked off his opening monologue by praising the “great” films that were made in 2023, despite the dual actors and writers strikes that shut down Hollywood.
While poking fun at the best picture nominees including Barbie, Oppenheimer, Maestro and more, Kimmel stopped at Robert Downey Jr. and joked about how he played a villain in The Shaggy Dog, which starred Tim Allen. He noted if they were to remake the film,...

During his monologue for the 2024 Oscars, host Jimmy Kimmel was quick to call out the Film Academy for failing to nominate Greta Gerwig for Barbie.
“It was a hard year but it was also a great year for movies despite the fact that everything stopped,” Kimmel reflected, alluding to the 2023 actors and writers strikes.
“Here we are all dressed up celebrating the best of the best beginning with Barbie,” Kimmel said, describing the film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as a “monster hit.”
“What an achievement to take a plastic doll no one even liked anymore… Now Barbie is a feminist icon thanks to Greta Gerwig who many believe deserved to be nominated for best director,” Kimmel added. After the audience erupted into an applause Kimmel quipped, “I know you’re clapping, but you’re the ones who didn’t vote for her by the way. Don’t act...

Updated: There has been another round of content removal from Disney+, this time in the Emea region, which consists of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. More than 120 titles have been taken off this week, primarily Disney Channel original movies and vintage Disney live-action films, as well as a few series, including Zeke and Luther, Pepper Ann, So Random and the first three seasons of Nat Geo’s Genius and ESPN/Nat Geo docs.
According to sources, the takedowns were a result of a library title review. There have been several content purges at Disney+ over the last year amid cost-cutting, most notably the removal of a slew of original series last May.
Here is a list of movie titles that are said to be gone from Disney+ in Emea, compiled by Drew Ryan.

With both Disney and Warner Bros. turning 100 this year, it’s a great time to remember the Golden Age of moviemaking. The business is changing at a precipitous rate, and recent studio mergers have forever altered the longtime map of Hollywood production.
Actors and crew members, like armies, march on their stomachs, and since the dawn of the industry, it’s been up to the studios where they’re shooting to keep them well fortified. Studio executives and office workers, too, needed a convenient place to eat on the lots.
While researching the recent Culinary Historians presentation “Lunching on the Lot,” a 1997 quote from Variety story turned up which deftly explained what studio commissaries meant to the business. “After a gourmet tour of studio eateries, however, one thing is clear — It ain’t the chow that’s important. When the tribe hunkers down for its daily repast, ritual and symbolism are the rule.

Robert Downey Jr. ended his Marvel run on a high note with Avengers Endgame. Afterwards, the actor was excited to jump into another potential franchise. But it was a mistake he later felt he learned a valuable lesson from.

When Downey parted ways with the Marvel universe, the actor set out to explore his career in a way he previously couldn’t. He figured the 2020 movie Dolittle would mark a new chapter in his professional life. Similar to Eddie Murphy’s Dr. Dolittle, Downey’s movie would focus on a doctor who could speak to animals. Except Downey’s version would be more faithful to its source material.
In an interview with Extra, he explained he somewhat felt fated to do the movie thanks to all of the signs around him.

He is best remembered as the affable dad on the long-running television series “My Three Sons” and for his good-natured characters in a string in Disney films. But Fred MacMurray had a rich and varied career that spanned over half a century.
Frederick Martin MacMurray was born on August 30, 1908, in Kankakee, Il. His father was a concert violinist, and young Fred initially followed his father steps into the music business. He worked as a saxophonist and vocalist to pay his way through college, eventually moving to Los Angeles and joining the California Collegians vocal ensemble. This led him cross-country to Broadway, where he was discovered by a Paramount scout, who brought him back to L.A. and film stardom.

Although he had been on a minor roll by 2008, starring in Zodiac, A Scanner Darkly and, uh, The Shaggy Dog, Robert Downey Jr. was far from being a box office draw. So it was a major risk for Jon Favreau to even consider casting Robert Downey Jr. in the movie that would launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man. It of course paid off in huge dividends and the casting has been cited as a major reason for the MCU’s success. Now, it’s someone with ties not to Iron Man but Batman that has praised the move.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Christopher Nolan lauded director Jon Favreau for taking the risk of casting Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man aka Tony Stark. “I thought when [Jon] Favreau had the insight to cast him as Iron Man…It’s one of the greatest casting decisions in the history of movies.

Robert Downey Jr. was concerned he played Iron Man for too long. The 58-year-old actor portrayed Tony Stark and his superhero alter ego in 11 movies from 2008's 'Iron Man' to 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' and he admitted he had reservations that playing the same character for such a long period could have affected his acting range.Asked if he had concerns that playing the same role for so long would have an impact on his acting, he told the New York Times magazine: "Yes. A hundred percent, and I knew there was a point where Chris Nolan was endorsing, let’s work those other muscles, but let’s do it while rendering you devoid of your usual go-to things."It’s the fast-talking, charming, unpredictable, blah, blah, blah, or as my very close friend Josh Richman, a character actor, used to say, I made my bones playing 'Milo,...

Robert Downey Jr. is among the stars of “Oppenheimer”, the Christopher Nolan-directed film about theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy), who’s been dubbed “the father of the atomic bomb” for his work with the Manhattan Project.
To say that Downey is pleased with the film is an understatement; during a recent interview, the “Iron Man” star declared “Oppenheimer” to be the best movie in which he’s ever appeared.

Few actors have enjoyed as much success as Robert Downey Jr. in the last 15 years. The unofficial leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe played Tony Stark in numerous blockbusters and helped turn the franchise into the one of the most lucrative in the history of Hollywood. But ask Downey if “Iron Man” or “Avengers: Endgame” were the “most important films” he’s made in the last two decades, and the two-time Oscar nominee will say no.
Speaking to the New York Times, Downey said the two projects he’d point to as having an outsized impact on this stage of his career are a pair of poorly reviewed kids’ movies: 2006’s “The Shaggy Dog” and 2020’s flop “Dolittle.”
“I finished the Marvel contract and then hastily went into what had all the promise of being another big, fun, well-executed potential franchise in ‘Dolittle.’ I had some reservations. Me and my...

Robert Downey Jr. is reflecting on his film career and, the films he considers most prominent may come as a surprise.
While most may assume that 2008’s “Iron Man” would be at the top of the actor’s list, it surprisingly is not, despite the fact that the superhero flick launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ultimately changing Hollywood’s blockbuster landscape.
During a recent interview with The New York Times, Downey Jr. revealed that he considers 2006’s “The Shaggy Dog” and 2020’s infamous box office bombing, “Dolittle”, as the most important titles he’s done in the last two decades.

On paper, Dolittle must have felt like a sure thing. The big-screen adaptation of Hugh Lofting’s classic Dolittle character was Robert Downey Jr.’s first major project after he exited the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, despite grossing over $250 million worldwide, Dolittle was considered a box-office bomb and a critical disappointment, but Robert Downey Jr. still considers it to be one of the most important films he’s ever made.
Robert Downey Jr. reflected on the failure of Dolittle in a recent New York Times profile. “I finished the Marvel contract and then hastily went into what had all the promise of being another big, fun, well-executed potential franchise in Dolittle,” Downey Jr. explained. “I had some reservations. When thinking of the most important movie in Robert Downey Jr.’s filmography over the last 25 years, one might naturally assume the answer is “Iron Man,” the 2008 superhero tentpole that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe and changed the blockbuster landscape in Hollywood. But that’s not the movie Downey Jr. himself would pick. In a new interview with The New York Times Magazine, the Oscar nominee cited 2006’s “The Shaggy Dog” and 2020’s infamous “Dolittle” flop as his most important titles.

He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.
This will now be the fourth time Allen has taken up the role of Calvin/Santa. He first starred in the film “The Santa Clause” in 1994, which was...

On September 24, two weeks after her boss Jim Gianopulos lost his job as chairman and CEO of Paramount Studios to ViacomCBS president of Kids & Family Entertainment Brian Robbins, Paramount Motion Picture Group president Emma Watts followed suit. Two deeply respected executives, the best in the business, politely kicked to the curb.
Of course, your greatest asset can just as easily be your biggest drawback; being “best in the business” can also make it impossible to succeed in the face of a massive paradigm shift like the one faced by ViacomCBS as it tries to create a competitive streaming platform at the 11th hour. IndieWire Editor-in-Chief Dana Harris-Bridson and film reporter Chris Lindahl break it down, along with an argument for why former “Head of the Class” star Robbins might represent the best hope for Paramount+.

Is there any career more unfairly represented in children’s movies than that of the animal control officer? In the rowdy new Disney Plus original, “Flora & Ulysses,” Flora (Matilda Lawler) is a 10-year-old comic-book savant; Ulysses is her unusually gifted CG squirrel; and overzealous officer Miller (Danny Pudi) is the only thing that stands between this beautiful friendship and a macabre fate for this cutie-patootie super-pet.
Technically, the title duo is only slightly less destructive than your average tornado. Nearly all the movie’s set pieces involve breaking, spilling or otherwise upsetting tidy spaces, which is no doubt fun to watch if you are Flora’s age or younger, and the type of child who likes to play Godzilla with your Lego sets. Actor Robert Downey Jr. is not interested in getting an Oscar for his superhero avatar of Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Downey Jr tried to brush off the remark, saying he doesn't think Scorsese really cares that much. But Stern said he believed the "Taxi Driver" director didn't like the movies and others in the industry had the same feeling, which is why Downey Jr was never nominated for an Oscar for his work as Tony Stark.

The exclusive 4K Ultra-hd club welcomes a worthy new member, Joe Dante’s evergreen horror comedy (and Christmas delight) about a cute furry critter and its 2nd-generation horde of scaly, impish demons. These aren’t Gremlins from the Kremlin, but homegrown domestic terrorist monsters, and Dante contrasts their killer antics with a sentimental parody of small town America. No CGI … You will believe that the animatronic rascals can multiply like rabbits, break dance, and run amuck!

“The Mickey Mouse Club” first premiered in October 1955 under the leadership of the one and only Walt Disney. The long-lasting variety show served as incubator for more than a few major future stars throughout its run, and during its second iteration in the 1990s, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera all shared airtime as Mousketeers. Here’s a look back at the biggest stars who made appearances on the show.
Annette Funicello
Funicello joined the Mousketeers in 1955 at the age of 12 after being personally discovered at a ballet performance by none other than Walt Disney. She quickly became one of the show’s most popular performers, receiving 6,000 fan letters a week, along with wristwatches and a few engagement rings. Funicello went on to star in several Disney-produced serials and movies, including “The Shaggy Dog” and “Babes in Toyland,” and then switched gears to costar in a...

Nine Lives is a film that’s dangerous to make these days, and that’s largely because Disney isn’t in it’s ’70s mode. That means efforts with fairly decent budgets and big stars that center around people turning into dogs, or field-goal-kicking mules, are looked down upon by everyone looking to take a shot at any film they can.
This is a fantastically goofy movie that, using some lens or another, has no redeeming qualities at all beyond the possible idea that the actors are actually performing their roles rather well. It’s not an uncommon lens, and there aren’t many who are particularly championing things like The Shaggy D.A. (especially when 2006’s Tim Allen remake The Shaggy Dog hit), but these family-friendly charmers don’t deserve the dissection they usually get these days.

Supernatural loves combining absurdist comedy with some truly gross-out scenarios. This episode, "Dog Dean Afternoon," is like a disturbed mash-up of The Shaggy Dog and The Silence of the Lambs. Dean develops the ability to talk to animals, but the monster of the week is a guy who wants to eat Sam's heart with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Turns out Steven Soderbergh isn't retiring after all - at least not when it comes to television. Though he's previously stated his intention to hang it up following the completion of his upcoming Liberace biopic "Behind the Candelabra" (read Guy Lodge's review from Cannes) the writer/director is reportedly teaming with Clive Owen for a 10-episode series on Cinemax entitled "The Knick," centered on the staff of New York City's Knickerbocker Hospital at the turn of the century. Soderbergh will direct all of the episodes and executive-produce alongside Owen and writers Jack Amiel and Michael Begler ("Big Miracle," "The Shaggy Dog"). Founded...

Surprise, surprise... another respected director has apparently had second thoughts about directing a movie based on a video game and decided to jump ship. Last summer it was announced that Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist) had signed on to direct Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for Sony, replacing David O. Russell. Now we have learned that Burger is no longer attached to the project and that, for the moment, there is no immediate replacement. They will wait to find a new director until another draft of the script is turned in by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (National Treasure). The news comes courtesy of Variety, although there is no word on why Burger decided to leave. The focus is on the hiring of the Wibberleys, who seem like a decent match based on their National Treasure experience, although they also have plenty of other questionable credits to their name including Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle,...

Ever since Neil Burger became attached to helm Uncharted well over a year ago there hasn’t been much movement on bringing the game to the big screen. With that lack of development, it comes to no surprise that, according to Variety, Burger has left the project. The reason for Burger’s departure is unclear, although it was reported hours before this news the Limitless director may adapt Divergent for Summit. Unfortunately, Burger isn’t the only loss the project has faced today, as screenwriting duo Cormac and Marianne Wibberley have signed on to handle scripting duties. For those of you unfamiliar with the Wibberley’s writings, they worked on The Shaggy Dog, I Spy, The 6th Day, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and, of course, Disney’s hamster epic, G-Force. There’s not a whole lot of impressive adventure in those films to prove they can handle Uncharted, but the duo was most likely hired because...

In 1987, director Richard Donner and screenwriter Shane Black came up with a new kind of action movie where the laughs were just as fast-paced as the thrills with Lethal Weapon, starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. The film made $120 million and led to three sequels in 1989, 1992 and 1998. With $900 million, the franchise was a huge success.
Unfortunately, after Lethal Weapon 4, everyone involved with the series went their separate ways. Although Gibson acted in blockbuster films like The Patriot, Chicken Run and What Women Want and directed the blockbuster Biblical drama The Passion of the Christ, he subsequently lost all public goodwill with his drunken Anti-Semetic remarks during an arrest in 2006; Gibson continued acting in 2010 with Edge of Darkness and followed a year later with The Beaver. Glover continues to act in films such as Saw, The Shaggy Dog, Be Kind Rewind and 2012. Donner essentially retired from directing after 16 Blocks and...

Chicago – Neither flat-out depressing nor mawkishly sentimentalized, Lasse Hallström’s 1985 Swedish classic, “My Life as a Dog,” avoids all the mistakes routinely committed by filmmakers working within the coming-of-age genre. It doesn’t view events through a treacly nostalgic haze and doesn’t condescend to its characters as if they were all quirky eccentrics ripe for satirizing.
The world as seen through the eyes of twelve-year-old Ingemar (Anton Glanzelius) feels so achingly real that it might cause some viewers to wince out of recognition. His lack of coordination and tireless energy cause him to create a great deal of trouble, particularly when goaded by his older brother. The household’s escalating stress proves to take a toll on Ingemar’s ailing mother (Anki Lidén), whose maternal instincts have vanished along with her health.
