MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's No. 2 network, TV Azteca, on Tuesday reported an 8% rise in second-quarter profit, driven by increased revenue earned from political ad spending and the success of its musical reality show La Academia. Azteca posted a quarterly net income of 497 million pesos ($46 million), up from 462 million pesos a year earlier. Net sales rose 7% to 2.2 billion pesos, a record second-quarter high for the broadcaster. The increase in sales was due in large part to revenue generated from political ad spending on a recent state election. Azteca's musical reality series La Academia, now in its fourth season, also contributed to the broadcaster's solid second-quarter results.
