At the time of his death on Thursday, Cuba Gooding Sr. was perhaps best known by younger generations as the father of Academy Award-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. But long before his son became famous, Gooding Sr. was a celebrity in his own right, having overcome the hardships endured by his refugee parents to become the lead singer of a popular funk band.
Born in New York City in 1944, Gooding Sr. was the son of Dudley MacDonald Gooding and his wife, Addie Alston. The elder Gooding, who spoke seven languages, had fled his native Barbados to escape servitude in 1936. He eventually found his way to Cuba,...

Whilst there will be no new footage from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" at this weekend's D23 Expo in Anaheim, Disney has put a number of costumes from the film on public display at the convention.
Understandably photos galore of said outfits have been snapped and are popping up all over social media, you can check out a sampling below. The costumes include looks at the outfits worn by Finn, Rey, Captain Phasma, some First Order Stormtroopers along with the droid Bb-8:

This year's poster for the Vienna International Film Festival is of a flame, and while around the world in other cinema-loving cities and at other cinema-loving festivals one might that that as a cue for a celluloid immolation and a move forever to digital, here in Austria cinema and film as film aren't burning up but rather are burning brightly.
The tributes and special programs in artistic director Hans Hurch's 2014 edition make this position clear: John Ford, Harun Farocki and 16mm, with new films by Tariq Teguia, Jean-Luc Godard, and Jean-Marie Straub accompanying older ones by the same directors. These aren't just retrospectives, they are revitalizing redoubts, inexhaustible fountains of flame, of sensitivity, of consciousness, and of intervention. With such a profound retrospective program, I hope you'll forgive me telling you very little of anything new at the festival; unless, that is, you like me count cinema revived as something always new.

I didn’t know Christopher Walken had danced in so many movies but it’s a good thing he has otherwise we wouldn’t have this great supercut to show you. He had the moves in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice video [watch it here] but put them all together with his movies and it’s something special.
Fyi: Walken initially trained as a musical theater dancer at the Washington Dance Studio.

Well, we’re going to try this again, and just throw you some of the stuff that caught our eye over the last few days.
We’re actually hoping to get this out every couple of days or so, but if you’ve been with us for a while, you know that we really kind of suck at stuff like that.
This is also, hopefully and potentially, going to be a pretty wide range, especially moving forward. We’d like a little bit of everything, including all the stuff that there is no way we can cover – we can’t do everything.
Have fun.

Comedy movie Frankie Go Boom proves one thing: Ron Perlman (Conan the Barbarian) does not make an attractive woman.
Written and directed by Jordan Roberts (Around the Bend), the film tells the story of Frankie (Charlie Hunnam, TV’s Sons of Anarchy), who has been tortured and humiliated by his brother Bruce (Chris O’Dowd, This is 40) his entire life by posting videos of Frankie online. Finally Bruce goes too far, uploading a video of a disastrous one-night stand with the inebriated daughter (Lizzy Caplan, Bachelorette) of a loose-cannon ex-movie star. Sex, Lies, and Youtube: Roberts’ Sophomore Effort a Sometimes Entertaining Slapstickery
To live, die, and make viral videos in L.A. seems to be the overriding glory in director Jordan Banks’ sophomore film, a slapstick romantic comedy with a tiny lacing of light raunch, 3,2,1…Frankie Go Boom. About as attention getting and simultaneously ungainly as its kitschy title, Roberts (who managed to snag Christopher Walken to star in his first film 2004’s Around the Bend) assembles an interesting cast. While not all of them are utilized to their full potential, there’s enough going on to keep you watching till the end, but the film’s core romantic catalyst, which is responsible for nearly the entire film’s narrative, is entirely unbelievable, and worse, dull. Banks’ film outweighs its jubilant welcome early on, but also happens to feature two of the most colorful cameos you might see this year.

The sight of Ron Perlman in drag alone should inform you that "3, 2, 1...Frankie Go Boom" may just be the oddest comedy you see this year. But it also may be one of the funniest. Premiering earlier this year at SXSW where it picked up some good buzz, the sophomore feature from Jordan Roberts is a far cry from his Christopher Walken/Josh Lucas starring debut "Around The Bend," but you'll be glad for his radical shift in direction. Starring Charlie Hunnam, Lizzy Caplan and Chris O'Dowd, the story centers on Frankie (Hunnam), who has to go into damage control mode when his brother Bruce (O'Dowd) puts a sex tape on the web involving himself and Lassie (Caplan) that goes viral. Toss in a transgendered Perlman and rehabbing Chris Noth, and you have something that is truly unique and certainly doesn't hold anything back. And in this exclusive clip from the film,...

Check out the trailer, red band clip and brand new poster for the oddly titled indie comedy 3, 2, 1.. Frankie Go Boom, about two brothers, a girl with a broken heart, a sex tape, an angel and a pig.
The film is directed and written by Jordan Roberts (Around the Bend) and stars Charlie Hunnam, Chris O’Dowd, Lizzy Caplan and Ron Perlman.
Frank Bartlett (Charlie Hunnam) has been tortured, embarrassed, and humiliated by his brother Bruce — usually on film — his entire life. Now that Bruce (Chris O’Dowd) is finally off drugs and has turned his life around, things should be different. They are not.
3, 2, 1.. Frankie Go Boom will be released to theaters on October 12th, 2012.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. rights to the romantic comedy “3,2,1… Frankie go Boom,” written and directed by Jordan Roberts (“Around the Bend”). The SXSW Film Festival selection will open on VOD platforms in September, followed by a theatrical release in October through Variance Films. Charlie Hunnam, Chris O’Dowd, Lizzy Caplan, Chris Noth, Whitney Cummings and Ron Perlman star in a raucous story about a man perpetually harassed by his brother, often on video, and the brokenhearted girl, sex tape and pig with which they get entangled. Marcel Langenegger, Pavlina Hatoupis and Katayoun Marciano produced the film; Elliott Lewitt and Julie Kirkham serve as executive producers. “‘3,2,1… Frankie Go Boom’ offers a hysterical and subversive look at love, family and the perils and possibilities of modern technology,” said Gravitas CEO Nolan Gallagher. “The performances and direction are first rate and we...

Jordan Roberts’ Frankie Go Boom is, above all, a good time. There’s many ways a comedy like this can fail, most run out of steam after promising first act, but this one keeps reinventing itself, throwing another wrench in gears. And the crowd I saw it with seemed to agree most of what’s thrown up lands with big laughs.
Frank (Charlie Hunnam) has been humiliated his entire life by his older brother Bruce (Chris O’Dowd), an aspiring filmmaker, and Frank’s embarrassments from the age onward to his wedding has been lensed by Bruce. Both men have ticks and shortcomings, Frank is a recently divorced writer working from a camper in Death Valley and he’s called back to the suburbs by his parents for Frank’s home coming from rehab. They criticize Frank’s life decisions while giving Bruce a free pass for his past indiscretions.

We weren't sure what to expect of "Frankie Go Boom," the sophomore directorial feature from director Jordan Roberts. There were the helmer's diverse previous credits, from directing ensemble dramedy "Around The Bend," which starred Christopher Walken, Michael Caine and Josh Lucas, to writing the narration for the hit documentary "March of the Penguins." Then there was the film itself: with cast members like Chris O'Dowd and Lizzy Caplan, it seemed like it could be a post-Apatow comedy, but then came that teaser poster, of Ron Perlman in a dress. What on Earth was this thing?

The past few festivals alone witnessed some of the best movies of their respective years debut, from low-budget indies like "The Puffy Chair," "Beeswax," "Tiny Furniture" and "Cold Weather" to more mainstream fare like "I Love You Man," "Adventureland" and "Bridesmaids," to international genre hits like "Kill List," "Attack The Block" and "Monsters."
It's certainly one of the highlights of our cinematic calendar, and there's no reason to think that the 2012 installment, which kicks off on Friday with the world premiere of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's eagerly anticipated horror-comedy "The Cabin In The Woods," will disappoint. The film Frankie Go Boom, from director Jordan Roberts (Around The Bend) has a very unique logline, which certainly demands attention. Of course, not to be outdone by simple words, Roberts has also let loose this poster, featuring the ever-distinct Ron Perlman in drag... You will probably be seeing that image all day, so for that, I apologize. To counter the eye poison, I have this second poster, featuring the much more "fair" looking Charlie...

Today we have a poster from the upcoming "Frankie Go Boom" comedy, starring Charlie Hunnam, Chris O'Dowd, Ron Perlman, Lizzy Caplan, and Chris Noth. Check out the poster, which shows what Perlman would look like as a woman, below. Plot: While trying to remove a compromising video from the internet, two brothers (Hunnam, O'Dowd) visit a brilliant computer hacker named Phil (Perlman). But when they get there, they discover that Phil is now Phyllis and she has no intention of helping them for "free." The new movie is written and directed by Jordan Roberts (Around the Bend). It was shot back in 2010 and will now premiere at the SXSW festival. Poster: (click to enlarge)...

SXSW kicks off this weekend, offering a slate of killer concerts along with a whole new slew of wild and weird features. Among them is quirky comedy called Frankie Go Boom. Written and directed by Jordan Roberts (Around the Bend), this offbeat indie stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids) as two brothers engaged in a relentless rivalry that ultimately leads to a massively embarrassing video making its way onto the internet. Seeking to erase any trace of the vid, they track down Phil (Ron Perlman), a heralded hacker, for help. Discovering that Phil has now become Phyllis is just the first twist in the unconventional tale of brotherly love and fraternal fighting. Below is the flick's eyebrow-raising poster, courtesy of Movieline (head over there to see it full-size): Now Perlman has a storied history of wildly altering his physical appearance to fully embody his complicated characters.

John Fogerty will play the Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Cosmo’s Factory” and “Green River” in their entirely during a two-night run at New York’s Beacon Theater, Nov. 17-18. Fogerty buffs will recognize the “hell freezes over” significance of this moment. The two albums, first released in 1969 and 1970 respectively, included such now classic rock tunes as “Bad Moon Rising, “ “Green River,” “Who’ll Stop The Rain,” and “Up Around the Bend.” But as Ccr fans know, a young and naive Fogerty signed away his publishing to Fantasy Records head Saul Zaentz. Then, in one of the strangest moments in rock history, ...

Inception The week's obvious top choice for purchase is Christopher Nolan's latest crowd-pleaser. I actually have the "Extraction Mode" from the Blu-ray release playing as I write this up, but haven't yet had a chance to take a look at the second disc. However, I am particularly interested in the 44-minute long "Dreams: Cinema of the Subconscious" featurette on the second disc. This feature explores dream research and I would think in conjunction with the film would be rather intriguing.
I can tell you the image is exceptional and the DTS-hd soundtrack is equally up to task and should prove impressive on the right systems. If there's a 2010 film made for Blu-ray it's this one. I should have a full review soon. Cronos (Criterion Collection) This one I am almost done with my review already. I had never...

Stars of FX motorcycle-gang drama "Sons Of Anarchy," the on-the-rise Charlie Hunnam and the revitalized Ron Perlman are set to unite on the silver screen alongside comedy thespians Lizzy Caplan and Chris O'Dowd for "Frankie Goes Boom," a project written and to be directed by Jordan Roberts. Little is currently known about the project other than the fact it's a comedy from the mind of Roberts--though which of the many Jordan Roberts this is remains to be seen; we presume it's the writer-director of 2004's "Around The Bend," based purely on his ability to attract big name actors like Michael…...

Eddie McClintock is back as Secret Service Agent Pete Lattimer in Warehouse 13, the second season of which is now showing on Syfy in the UK.
The American actor is also well known for playing Special Agent Tim Sullivan in Bones and Frank Helm in Desperate Housewives. He also had leading roles in short-lived sitcoms Stark Raving Mad and Crumbs.
Here, Eddie talks about the new season of Warehouse 13, his collection of comics and his dream roles.
Are you enjoying your time in the UK?
So far so good, it's really been nice. It's a little rainy, but that comes with the territory right?
Do you have any personal highlights this season?
I would say an episode called Around The Bend. Pete gets infected by an artefact, and this particular role in this particular episode kind of earns Pete the right to be who he is for the rest of the episodes.

Consider the Warehouse 13 game changed.
On "Vendetta," H.G. Wells was back - and no longer wanted. However, against Artie's wishes, she was reinstated to full agent.
I had mentioned previously that I wondered if the show was going to pull a twist on us and have her turn out to actually be a good guy. This development clearly pointed that direction. I really hope that Wells is exactly who she says she is for two reasons:
I really like Jamie Murray who plays Wells and brings such a charm to the show with her accent and more “steam punk” style inventions. The “I am pretending to be good to get something from you” storyline has been used so many times at this point.
I am really hoping the show has more imagination than that. Please let Wells remain a good guy and join the cast; she has such great potential.

Warehouse 13 tossed a unique twist at its viewers this week.
On "Around the Bend," a team member was affected by an artifact. I really enjoyed the angle that was taken with it. Up until the point that Myka went to see Kate, I really thought that Pete was on the track of a spy in the warehouse and he was totally sane.
In watching it a second time, I picked up on the photo that Myka looked at from the apartment window that did not show either of the two people Pete saw at the time. It was a nice, subtle, impressive touch.
I also think it helped that the writers weaved in just enough of Mr. Valda being himself (a total jerk) that we really wanted him to be the bad guy so that Pete would take him down. I like Mr. Valda as a protagonist for the team.

Taylor Swift is one of the lucky musicians who walked home with a trophy at the May 18 ceremony of Bmi Pop Music Awards. The country music singer was handed a kudo for Song of the Year, thanks to her hit single "Love Story". This achievement made her the youngest writer ever to win the coveted prize.
"I just really like to write songs about boys," Swift said during her acceptance speech in front of the crowd packed into the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. She described the self-penned track "the one epic teenage tantrum" she ever threw in her life. She added, "So thanks for rewarding that behavior."
In addition to Taylor Swift, there were also RedOne and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp who won Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year respectively. RedOne was honored for his work on Sean Kingston's "Fire Burning" and Lady GaGa's "Just Dance", "LoveGame...

I never know what I’ll find sitting in the $4 bargain bins of Blockbuster’s previously viewed sales stock. I tend to stop by my local store just to see what unsung movie titles are merely collecting dust as a result of the average movie watcher simply skimming over the selection looking for titles they have heard of, instead of digging a bit deeper to find the occasional smaller films that didn’t get much publicity but are well worth taking a chance on. A couple of years ago, ‘Around the Bend’ was one of these unknown titles that I discovered and chose to adopt as my own… and I’m glad I did.
‘Around the Bend’ (2004) is a wonderfully charming and thoughtful movie, written and direct by Jordan Roberts, about four generations of men reuniting one last time in an attempt to reconcile past differences. Henry is not well,...

Headly going 'Around Bend' with the boys
Glenne Headly has joined the all-male cast of Warner Independent Pictures' Around the Bend, which is being directed by first-time helmer Jordan Roberts. The project, which was also written by Roberts, stars Michael Caine, Christopher Walken, Josh Lucas and Jonah Bobo as four generations of men who are brought together by the chance to uncover the truth about an old family secret. Headly plays a nurse who is caring for Caine. The movie is shooting in New Mexico. Michael Andreen, executive vp production for WIP, is overseeing the project. The project will be a reunion of sorts for Headly and Caine, who starred together in 1988's Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Headly's numerous credits include television miniseries Lonesome Dove, Mr. Holland's Opus, and the upcoming Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Headly is repped by ICM.
