Damien Thomas, Actor in ‘Twins of Evil’ at Hammer Films, Dies at 83
Image
Damien Thomas, the British actor perhaps best known for his turn as the vampire Count Karnstein opposite Peter Cushing in the Hammer Films horror classic Twins of Evil, has died. He was 83.

Thomas died April 18 at Salisbury Hospice in Wilshire England, and had been battling progressive supranuclear palsy, daughter Phoebe Court-Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter.

In high-profile miniseries, Thomas played the Portuguese priest Father Alvito alongside Richard Chamberlain in 1980’s Shogun at NBC, and he was the unsettling Richard Mason in a 1983 BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre, starring Zelah Clarke and Timothy Dalton.

Thomas also portrayed a ruthless first mate in Roman Polanski’s Pirates (1986), starring Walter Matthau. When the film bombed at the box office, he blamed himself and said the experience shattered his confidence, he recalled in 2013.

However, when he saw the movie again years later, he “realized it wasn’t me at all. Actually, I’m not so awful in it.

Image
Stephen King reads an excerpt from his new book, Never Flinch, and takes readers behind the scenes of how the “whodunnit” came to be in the video below.

The author also explains his love for Holly Gibney, the character who previously appeared in Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End of Watch, The Outsider, If It Bleeds, and Holly.

The 448-page novel will be published in hardcover, e-book, and audio book on May 27 from Scribner.

Here’s the official synopsis:

King has an approachable, easy-reading style that lets almost any reader rip through his imaginative horrors and his darkest fantasies at the pace of a cherry-red Plymouth Fury. Stephen King Classic Cujo Is Getting A Second Adaptation, This Time At Netflix
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Despite being wildly popular for decades, both as an author and as a source of inspiration for on-screen media, Stephen King is more popular now than he's ever been. Case in point, Netflix is once again teaming with the prolific author for a new adaptation of his 1981 novel "Cujo." It seems this deadly dog will once again have the chance to show his teeth for a new generation.

According to Deadline, Netflix has closed a deal to make a new movie based on "Cujo," with Roy Lee, of "Barbarian" and "It" fame, producing. No writer or director is currently attached, but the report notes that they will be going out to writers "immediately." Clearly, Netflix doesn't intend to let this languish in development hell. Netflix has partnered with King several times before on movies such as "1922" and "Gerald's Game,...

Stephen King’s ‘Cujo’ Still Has Bite; Netflix Sets Movie Deal For Classic Thriller Novel
Image
Exclusive: Netflix has made a deal to turn the Stephen King bestselling novel Cujo into a new feature film. Roy Lee is producing, and they will go out to writers immediately.

The novel, originally published in 1981, was first turned into a 1983 thriller that starred Dee Wallace as a mother desperate to protect her son from a formerly friendly 200-pound St. Bernard that has been bitten by a rabid bat and turns into a ferocious, calculating hound that leaves a trail of bodies. Mom and her son get stuck in her small car that won’t start, and their choices are to battle it out with the rabid oversized hound or risk heatstroke in a hot car.

The film was one of many adaptations of King’s thriller bestsellers that turned into film hits.

King continues to be as prolific as ever — Never Flinch will be next one published, and he...

Stephen King’s Panned Werewolf 'Silver Bullet' is Streaming on Tubi
Image
The 1980s werewolf movie Silver Bullet was panned as a complete howler by many critics on its release, but fans of the cult classic werewolf movie starring Gary Busey and Corey Haim from the mind of Stephen King can now stream the movie for free. The horror film from 1985 is now part of Tubi's extensive library of scary movies, although the scares in this one are admittedly few and far between. However, that doesn't mean Silver Buller isn't worth a rewatch.

Other horror titles arriving on Tubi include four Insidious movies, both Grindhouse movies by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, the zombie feature starring Brad Pitt, World War Z, and the "alligators act like sharks" movie, Crawl, among others. However, if you're in for a Stephen King marathon, Tubi also offers adaptations like Children of the Corn, two Carrie movies, the author's directorial effort Maximum Overdrive, and Creepshow 2.

Stephen King Dishes on Why Steven Spielberg's Adaptation of 'The Talisman' Never Got Off the Ground
Image
Stephen King, the famed horror author behind works like Pet Sematary, The Shining and It, has revealed what happened to the rumored adaptation of his bookThe Talisman that Steven Spielberg always pushed for. A lot of time has passed since then, but it seems King justifies the project drowning in development hell because of his substance abuse and Spielberg's "status" in the 1980s.

The Talisman was co-written between Peter Straub and King and published in 1984. It remains one of the few bestselling books by King that hasn't been adapted to the big or small screen. At some point during the 1980s, Spielberg wanted to bring the fantasy book to the big screen, but nothing happened beyond the negotiations.

Per ScreenRant's report, King appeared on the Kingcast podcast recently, and he recalled the power struggle that he went through back then. Decades have passed, but the author still remembers...

Stephen King Calls Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Dark Tower’ Adaptation “Perfect,” Comments on ‘The Long Walk,’ ‘Talisman 3’
Image
During a recent appearance on The Kingcast, Stephen King praised Mike Flanagan‘s take on his magnum opus, The Dark Tower.

“I’ve seen screenplays and pitches, and he starts where he should start,” the author says. “The beats are perfect. They’re just perfect.”

King lovingly refers to Flanagan — who previously adapted Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and the forthcoming The Life of Chuck — as “the King whisperer.” The filmmaker revealed in late 2022 that his Intrepid Pictures acquired the rights The Dark Tower.

Tangentially related to the Dark Tower saga, King is currently working on a third Talisman novel. He expressed his excitement to return to the parallel world he created with the late Peter Straub.

“I’ve been channeling [Straub] like a motherfucker while working on Talisman 3. I find myself using his verbs. People don’t necessarily walk into a room. They bustle into a room, because that’s a very Straub-ian word.

Stephen King Explains Why Steven Spielberg's Adaptation Of The Talisman Was Never Made
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Steven Spielberg is one of the most beloved directors in the history of cinema. Stephen King is one of the most prolific writers in all of popular literature. A big collaboration between these two titans has always felt like a wonderful idea. Spielberg has tried hard to make it happen, as the "Jurassic Park" and "Lincoln" director has long held the rights to King and Peter Straub's book "The Talisman." Despite 40 years of trying, no movie ever materialized. Why not?

King was recently a guest on the latest episode of "The Kingcast," co-hosted by Eric Vespe and Anthony Breznican. In the episode, the author discussed Spielberg's never-realized film adaptation of the 1984 epic. Here's what King had to say about it:

"For 40 years man, Spielberg talked about it. The discussions with Spielberg's rabbi, so to speak, Sid Sheinberg, were very difficult,...

How Stephen King Is Channeling The Late Peter Straub To Write The Talisman 3
Image
One of the more underrated Stephen King novels is "The Talisman," published in 1984, a fantasy book that he co-wrote with another well-known horror writer, Peter Straub. Although "The Talisman" has never received a live-action adaptation of its own (although Netflix is apparently trying), the book still has plenty of hardcore fans.

In 2001, Straub and King published a sequel titled "Black House." Today, King is writing a third "Talisman" book, but this time he'll be writing it on his own: Straub passed away in 2022 at 79 years old. In a 2023 interview, King explained, "Before he died, Peter sent me this long letter and said we oughta do the third one, and he gave me a really cool idea and I had some ideas of my own." Now, in a new podcast interview on "The Kingcast," King has elaborated on how the process of writing without Straub has been going.

"This book has...

Stephen King Reveals He Is Working on Talisman 3: “Beavering away on Talisman 3”

Stephen King is officially working on a third installment in The Talisman saga, a series he co-wrote with the late Peter Straub. King revealed this exciting news on Threads, sharing that Straub had conceived the idea for the new book before his passing in 2022. While King is diving into the project, he emphasizes that there’s still a long road ahead before it’s complete.

The original The Talisman was published in 1984, followed by its sequel, Black House, in 2011. The first book introduced readers to Jack Sawyer, a 12-year-old boy on a life-saving quest across parallel worlds, while the sequel, tying into King’s Dark Tower universe, followed Jack as an adult investigating grisly murders in Wisconsin.

Fans have speculated for years whether King would continue the story, especially after Straub’s death, making this confirmation even more significant.

Stephen King Just Confirmed His Best Book Of The 2020s & I Couldn't Be More Excited
Image
After a few months of speculation, Stephen King has finally confirmed he's working on a book that will be his best one of the 2020s. It's always been funny to me to ponder how King has said once or twice in the past that he's thinking about retiring. Considering his prodigious output of the past decade, he knows, and we know, and we know he knows he's lying to himself; the man has stories pouring out of him like water from a spring.

We already know two upcoming books involving him. The first is King's Never Flinch, which will return to the Holly Gibney universe; the second is the anthology The End of the World As We Know It, a first for Stephen King that will find dozens of writers coming together to pen short stories set in the world of The Stand. But the project he's teased he's quietly...

Stephen King Is Working on a New ‘Talisman’ Novel Based on an Idea by Peter Straub
Image
Stephen King is “beavering away” on a third novel in The Talisman saga, the author revealed on Threads.

Published in 1984, The Talisman was co-written by King and Peter Straub. The bestselling horror writers reunited to collaborate on a sequel to the horror fantasy epic, Black House, in 2011.

Straub passed away from complications of a broken hip in 2022, but not before conceiving a concept for a new installment.

“Peter Straub had a terrific idea before passing away,” King shares. “Dual credit, as on The Talisman and Black House. But as always, I can never be sure a book will be done until it is. This one has a long way to go.”

King confirms that he is “absolutely” channeling his inner Straub while writing.

The Talisman follows 12-year-old Jack Sawyer on a quest into a parallel world known as the Territories in search of a powerful talisman in order to save his mother from certain death.

Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Stephen King is writing The Talisman 3
Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Back in 1984, writers Stephen King and Peter Straub collaborated on the fantasy novel The Talisman, in which a 12-year-old boy named Jack Sawyer goes on a cross-country journey to save the life of his ailing mother – a journey that takes him not just through the American heartland but also through a parallel universe called The Territories. In 2001, King and Straub reteamed for the sequel Black House, which found an adult Jack Sawyer working for the LAPD and travelling to Wisconsin to bring down a serial killer called The Fisherman. There have been rumblings of a third book in the series for a decade now… and even though Straub passed away in 2022, King is sticking with the plan to finish the Jack Sawyer trilogy. Back in October, he wrote on social media, “I’m back in Mid-World…and the Territories. Don’t know if it will develop into anything–I never...

Stephen King Fantasy Series Getting Sequel Novel Over 20 Years Later & Ahead Of Long-Gestating Adaptation
Image
Stephen King is writing a sequel to Black House. The Talisman and its sequel, Black House, were co-written by Peter Straub, and respectively published in 1984 and 2001. Straub later passed away in 2022. In 2024, Stephen King teased a new story, sharing on X/Twitter that he was "back in Mid-World...and the Territories." With Mid-World being from The Dark Tower books and the Territories being a fantastical universe from The Talisman books, it was unclear whether the upcoming story would be more connected to The Dark Tower or The Talisman.

On Threads, King has now confirmed that he is writing a third Talisman novel. He revealed that "Straub had a terrific idea before passing away" about how to continue The Talisman series. King is now writing a sequel based on this idea and shared that Straub will be given co-author credit, just as with The Talisman and Black House. He also emphasized...

Stephen King's Mid-World Tease Is Even More Exciting With Mike Flanagan's Dark Tower Show On The Horizon
Image
Stephen King teasing more Mid-World stories bodes well for Mike Flanagan's The Dark Tower show. Flanagan has directed film adaptations of the King novels Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. He also directed an adaptation of the short story The Life of Chuck, set for a theatrical release in May 2025. Adapting King's work is set to continue with Mike Flanagan's Dark Tower series that is still in development. This is not the only major Dark Tower universe project currently in the works, though, with King teasing that he is writing a new Dark Tower book.

In October 2024, King shared on X (formerly Twitter), that he was back "in Mid-World...and the Territories." This tease made it unclear whether the developing story is more of a Dark Tower book, as per the Mid-World reference, or if the Territories mention means that the story will be the third installment in The Talisman series.

The Stand Anthology's Quiet Stephen King Reunion Makes Me Even More Excited For Its 2025 Release
Image
While the upcoming anthology based on Stephen King's The Stand is exciting enough in its own right, it features a reunion that makes it all the better. The anthology, titled The End of the World As We Know It, will be a first for Stephen King. In it, a collection of notable horror writers will come together to pen stories not just inspired by, but set in the world of The Stand. The authors included in the Stephen King-inspired anthology have inspired great confidence that it will be excellent, if an interesting and slightly risky experiment.

On top of that, with Stephen King teasing a return to Mid-world and the Territories, it's made fans wonder if the new anthology will become canon. It could, perhaps, even more firmly tie together the worlds of The Stand, The Dark Tower, and The Talisman. Either way, it's an exciting thing to see...

How To Read Every Stephen King Book In Order
Image
Horror legend Stephen King has written a fair few books over the years. Ever since he burst on the scene with "Carrie" in 1974, he's given fans at least one book nearly every year. Since most of his work has been extremely popular, he's also established himself as a bit of an authority on the horror front -- and isn't shy about commenting about either the genre or his craft as a writer.

Thanks to King's status as a horror luminary and extensive work in many other genres, we've analyzed his work many times before. You may have seen us discuss why King's endings have a reputation for being disappointing, look into his biggest career regret involving (of all things) a forgotten TV commercial, and examine the one Stephen King book that will never get a film adaption due to the author voluntarily scrubbing it from his catalog.

However, in order...

10 Stephen King Book Endings That Left Me Wanting More
Image
Warning: This article discusses topics of abuse, violence, drugs, and death.

I have followed Stephen King’s works since I was old enough to read them, but there are certain titles that I really wanted more from, as their endings left me feeling unfulfilled. It’s common knowledge that Stephen King has a problem with his book ending s, and he is often criticized for wrapping up his stories in unsatisfactory ways. However, Stephen King’s best book endings prove that this isn’t an exclusive rule, and like any good author, the King of Horror isn’t always perfect.

A “bad” ending can vary in definition. Some of these King endings feel rushed, are anticlimactic, or don’t provide a decent enough payoff to justify the journey to it. While a few of these Stephen King books need sequels, others simply require a bit more context and explanation to fill the gaps.

This 5-Year-Old Stephen King Book Has Too Much Untapped Potential To Not Get A Sequel
Image
Stephen King is selective when it comes to writing sequels, only penning them when he feels they're necessary but there's one great book of his that has huge sequel potential and hasn't gotten one yet. King's philosophy when it comes to sequels makes sense, as far too many books and movies get continuations for the sake of it. Among the books the author has broken his sequel rule for are The Shining and The Talisman, along with a few novels, like Cujo, that have gotten short story follow-ups. The author has also written series like The Dark Tower.

Needless to say, sequels aren't totally off the table for the "King of Horror" but they need to make sense. And his 2019 novel, The Institute, has far too much potential to remain a standalone. The Institute lands among the few King books that really do demand sequels. It's unclear if one will ever happen,...

Stephen King's New Project Might Solve A Dark Tower Canon Plot Hole That Has Bothered Readers For Years
Image
Stephen King recently announced a new project he's working on, and it could finally solve a Dark Tower canon issue that has plagued Constant Readers for years. "I'm back in Mid-World...and the Territories," he wrote on X/Twitter. "Don't know if it will develop into anything--i never know--but it's good to be back." Those who have read King for a while know that that is referencing a few of Stephen King's most beloved books with The Dark Tower series and The Talisman, which he co-wrote with the late Peter Straub.

Often, when King dives back into a familiar world from one of his novels after years have passed, it's because he either has a sequel story that is burning a hole in his brain, or there are some continuity errors he wants to clear up. He did it previously, for example, with the revised and expanded edition of the Dark Tower book The Gunslinger,...

Stephen King Has Teased A New Dark Tower Book, But What Could It Actually Be About?
Image
Stephen King has teased a new book in The Dark Tower universe, which raises the question of what the new installment could focus on. The first Dark Tower book, The Gunslinger, was published in 1982 and introduced the story of Roland Deschain. More than two decades later, King ended the series with the publication of The Dark Tower in 2004, which culminates Roland's journey. He later wrote an additional novel, The Wind Through the Keyhole, which was published in 2012 and takes place between the fourth and fifth books.

King has now teased a new Dark Tower book as he shared that he is "back in Mid-World...and the Territories" and that while he is unsure of what this venture will amount to, "it's good to be back." In addition to the eight novels and "The Little Sisters of Eluria" novella in The Dark Tower series, the books also connect to many of King's other works,...

Stephen King's Return To The Territories Makes Me Hopeful For A Sequel He's Teased Before

Stephen King has announced he's returning to the Territories, and it's making me really hopeful that he might finally be working on the third book in The Talisman series that he's teased for a few years. The original The Talisman, published in 1984, was co-written by the late horror great Peter Straub, as was the 2001 sequel, Black House. While the epic has been beloved by his faithful Constant Readers, it's never gotten the proper attention of other Stephen King books, perhaps because it's not yet been adapted for a feature film or TV series (though the Duffer Brothers are trying to get a Talisman TV adaptation off the ground).

Stephen King And Steven Spielberg Almost Teamed Up For A Haunted House Movie
Image
Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Two artists at the very top of their fields. King: one of the best-selling authors of all time. Spielberg: the filmmaker who invented the blockbuster. How have these guys never worked together? Well, it's not for lack of trying. In fact, these titans have come very close to teaming up on several occasions. When Spielberg was writing "Poltergeist," he wanted King's help with the script. "It didn't work out because it was before the internet and we had a communication breakdown," King told EW.

Then there was "The Talisman," the fantasy novel King co-wrote with the late Peter Straub. Before the book even hit the shelves, Spielberg scooped up the rights — but neither a film nor a TV adaptation has ever materialized. "Several times he came very close to making it, and there were a lot of discussions about that," King said. It was...

Every Fictional Stephen King Town (& What Stories Are Set There)
Image
Titles Appearances The Talisman, Black House, The Dark Tower Harwich is the hometown of Jack Sawyer, the main character in The Talisman. It is also mentioned in Black House and plays a role in The Dark Tower series. The town's connection to other stories adds depth to the overarching narrative.

Stephen King's fictional towns form a rich and interconnected tapestry within his literary universe, with numerous stories set in each. While it can be easy to sink beneath the quicksand of even one of King's hefty manuscripts, it's mind-boggling to realize they all share the same universe. Characters, events, and subtle references link these towns, creating a cohesive narrative that spans multiple stories, reinforcing the idea that Stephen King's macroverse is an intricately woven web where the horrors of one small town can influence the fates of others.

The connections between these towns often go beyond mere geography, intertwining...

Image
The next book we’ll be seeing from Stephen King is Holly, which is set to reach store shelves on September 5th (you can pre-order a copy Here) and centers on the Holly Gibney character that King has previously written about in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, The Outsider, and the If It Bleeds story contained in the short story collection of the same name. Now, during an interview with the Talking Scared podcast, King has revealed three more projects that he’s working on or thinking about working on: another short story collection, another Holly Gibney story, and possibly a third book in the Talisman series he started with the late Peter Straub.

King told Talking Scared (with thanks to The Guardian for the transcription) that the short story collection is called You Like It Darker and is expected to be published sometime in 2024. The book has a page count...

What happens when a much-loved author gives their honest opinion on a big upcoming movie? The much-loved writer/director who will soon be heading up the entire Dcu future and loves nothing more than spending almost as much time on Twitter as the platform’s logo has to respond.

James Gunn was drawn into giving a very simple and celebratory reply to the critique offered by King when tagged in the post by a fan. As a writer of many stories that deal with multiple realities, such as The Dark Tower and The Talisman, King knows a thing or two about multiverses. Even though he clearly doesn’t...

Plot details for the series are being kept under wraps, though Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer said it would be in the vein of “Saturday morning cartoons,” a reference to such popular 1980s-era series as Masters of the Universe, Jem and the Holograms, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and G.I. Steven Spielberg's 3 Failed Stephen King Movies Explained
Image
It's a tragedy that Stephen King and Steven Spielberg have yet to work on a movie together, though the duo had three projects they came close to making. Spielberg's name would never be listed alongside the likes of John Carpenter or Wes Craven as a horror movie master - though he probably should. He showed time and again with the likes of Jaws, Duel or Jurassic Park that he's capable of creating unforgettable horror moments within crowd-pleasing blockbusters. Even E.T. began as a horror screenplay dubbed Night Skies.

Stephen King, on the other hand, has had his work adapted by Carpenter, David Cronenberg, George A. Romero, Tobe Hooper and most of the "masters." While mostly focused on his own prolific novel output, King has penned the screenplays to some of these films too, including Creepshow and 1989's Pet Sematary. While King and Spielberg have always been on good terms,...

Image
The first Stranger Things theatrical production has been announced, with a new play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, set to open in London by the end of this year.

The new play will offer some deep Hawkins, Indiana lore, going all the way back to 1959, and featuring younger versions of several prominent characters in the series: “Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town,” reads a description.

David Harbour Thinks It's Time To End Stranger Things
Image
As some robot guy once said, "a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts." That's a difficult lesson to learn, especially in the entertainment business. It's doubly difficult when a massive franchise like Netflix's "Stranger Things" is concerned; each successive season of the hit series manages to capture the attention of all of pop culture upon dropping, resulting not only in a deluge of memes and discussions online but sales of copious merchandise items. Heck, the show even found time to resurrect Kate Bush's back catalog during season 4!

Yet all things must pass, and as the actors who began the show as children start to literally age out of their roles, it's becoming clear to all involved that the end is near. There's also the sense from a story perspective that things need to be resolved, as the supernatural forces menacing the small town of Hawkins, Indiana close in on our older,...

Stephen King Adaptation Billy Summers Changes From Limited Series To Feature Film
Image
One of Stephen King's newest stories is already set to get the big screen adaptation, as Deadline is reporting that the 2021 crime novel "Billy Summers" has been acquired by Warner Brothers, with J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot producing. This is a slight change of plans from the news that broke almost exactly a year ago, when the same outlet reported that Bad Robot was set to develop the book as a limited series.

Abrams isn't the only big name on board, as Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is also producing, with Deadline speculating that DiCaprio himself may star while Abrams directs. Still, the project is in the early stages, and we know better than to put all our eggs in one basket when it comes to dream-casting DiCaprio in his producing projects after what happened to "The Devil in the White City."

Still, "Billy Summers" is worth getting excited about.

Peter Straub, Horror Novelist Who Collaborated With Stephen King, Dies at 79

Peter Straub, an author of horror and supernatural fiction who had worked with Stephen King, died Sunday at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. He was 79.

His wife, Susan Straub, told The New York Times that his death stemmed from complications due to a broken hip. Additionally, his daughter Emma Straub, also a novelist, announced his passing on Twitter in a tribute thread.

Straub is known for penning such work as 1975’s Julia, about a woman who senses she’s being stalked by a supernatural presence while mourning the death of her young daughter, which was adapted into the 1977 film The Haunting of Julia that stars Mia Farrow. He achieved major success with 1979’s Ghost Story, about a group of men who attempt to learn the backstory of the female spirit haunting them; it was adapted into the 1981 film of...

Ghost Story Proves There Should've Been More Peter Straub Movies
Image
It was announced today that acclaimed horror author Peter Straub passed away, an undeniable creative force who completely changed what was possible in the landscape of dark fantasy and horror fiction. Straub wrote with such beautiful world-building detail and rich prose that he often elevated the simplest concepts into full-fledged epics, which is precisely why the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King, collaborated with him on their collaborative masterpiece, "The Talisman."

While King has been the most adapted author of the modern era, Straub has only had two novels brought to life. In 1977, "The Haunting of Julia" was released inspired by his novel "Julia," but the film that should have had studios vying to gain the rights to any and all of Straub's works came in 1981 when Universal adapted his haunting novel "Ghost Story."

Straub published the novel in 1979, which became a national bestseller and helped cement Straub as one of the horror fiction greats.
