A comedy/drama with plenty to say!

Warning: Spoilers
I thought the most interesting – and certainly the most charismatic – performance in this movie was that given by John Kapelos as the hero's boss. As I'd never heard of him before, I looked him up on IMDb and to my amazement, I found he has amassed to date (2016) no less than 179 credits. Even more startling is that almost all of these credits were for TV appearances. That is really astonishing! When I was associated with TV, any cast member who couldn't remember lines was given the bum's rush – but fast! Yet this fascinating Westlake DVD (which I highly recommend) includes a long sequence of extras which show John continually fluffing his dialogue and being forced to repeat it over and over! Things have sure changed – but I'm glad of it! A pity John only comes on at the beginning and the end. The in-between stuff certainly has its moments – although the illustration on the DVD cover is a bit of a put-on (this is an extremely short clip in the movie which actually focuses on the hero's attempts to come to terms with life after being fired from his highly paid job in the city). Is it a comedy? I don't know that I would go that far, but it was sold as a comedy so I guess we're stuck with that classification. Make that rating 7.5!

I Can't Believe This Is Their First Movie. Unbelievable.

I was in a record store the other day trying to replace my scratched copy of 'Exile on Main Street' (nothing buy vinyl for yours truly) and the two locals at the counter would not stop going on and on about this 'Knuckle Sandwich' movie. He apparently went to boarding school in Charlotte with a guy who now works for a production company in LA--said everybody out there was talking about this thing.

He had gotten an advance copy from the LA guy and let me borrow a copy because i live in the same apt complex.

NOW I KNOW WHY THEY'RE ALL TALKING ABOUT IT.

It's a really well written independent film that has solid dialogue. you've got over the top funny movies like Dumb and Dumber (which i like, don't get me wrong), but then have you have those cool, "clever" flicks that kind of develop a cult-like following.

I think this one has the best of both. "Bottle Rocket/Rushmore"-esque intelligent, cool writing with a few, effective doses of "Chevy Chase when he did hard drugs" physical comedy. Perfect. Just about every major character in here is a drunken idiot and it works.

Oh yeah, BROOKE BURKE and MORGAN FAIRCHILD are in it. God, they are ridiculous.

I read somewhere that it is starting to make the film festival circuit. Should be in the Vegas one around the end of July.

See this damn thing. The guys who wrote this twisted thing have got to have a few more scripts up their sleeve.

Buy a case of extraordinarily cheap brew and enjoy.

Warning: Spoilers
Carter Simms (Douglas Callan) is a small town football hero living a successful life in LA selling 401Ks. He has a beautiful girlfriend (Brooke Burke-Charvet) and everything a guy could want. One day his world comes crashing down upon him as he gets fired and finds his girlfriend cheating on him. He returns to his home town, an "R" rated Mayberry to sort things out and think about what matters in life.

This is not an action or plot driven film. It moves slow to give you a feel of Carter's easy paced life in his home town. He hangs out with the gang he grew up with and is still a hero to the townsfolk. The almost non-existing plot is predictable down to the details. It is an indie that doesn't pretend to be too much.

Morgan Fairchild plays the mom and frankly, she looks great. She could have played a woman half her age. Okay her accent has really bad. This is not a deep indie where you have to think hard or pay attention to oddball stuff going on in the background. It is simply a "I love my small home town more than the big city" film. The cover art is really stupid and attempts to sell the film as something it is not.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, brief nudity, implied sex
