The arrival of a new Guardians Of The Galaxy movie isn’t just a cause for celebration because the MCU bestowing the world with another hand-crafted mixtape of forgotten bangers and impeccable vibes, perfectly curated to soundtrack the exploits of Peter Quill and pals. The first film’s soundtrack sold over 2.5 million copies; its follow-up soundtrack went Top 5 in the Billboard 200 charts. These mixes have become cultural events in and of themselves.
Now, here comes Awesome Mix Vol. 3, the final playlist for the Guardians’ farewell tour – once again stacked with hits we’ll be spinning for months on end. But, here’s the tough question: which of the three soundtracks comes out on top? Which mix is the most undeniably awesome? Given that it’s an impossible choice, a trio of Empire writers make the case for each compilation…

Our favorite movie cop, Kevin James, was unrecognizable while on set for pal Adam Sandler‘s new Netflix film, Hubie Halloween.
Complete with a mullet and beard, James looked nothing like his previous Mall Cop character, Officer Paul Blart — who opted for a close cut and trimmed mustache.
Though not much has been revealed about the upcoming Halloween murder-mystery, including James’ character, Geek Tyrant reported that the confirmed roles include a character named Officer Steve.
According to a casting call posted in May for the film, it’s expected to be about “a good-natured but eccentric community volunteer finds himself...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday.
This week’s question: “The Book of Henry” has been assailed by critics. But let’s look beyond this particular reviled new release. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever reviewed?
Alissa Wilkinson (@alissamarie), Vox
It’s unfortunately not even a contest: “God’s Not Dead 2,” which I reviewed for Flavorwire and then wrote about it further for Thrillist. (The first movie is actually far worse, but I didn’t review it.) They’re actually not the worst-made movies I’ve seen, but as a Christian and a film critic, I find them so actively offensive and cynical that it’s somehow even more depressing. I didn’t derive any joy from the process, but it felt important that I write about it.

Here's a great trailer mashup that pits Paul Blart Mall Cop against zombies from Dawn of the Dead. The mashup is almost too perfect. I've never been a big fan of the Paul Blart movies but It seems to make sense to pit him against a zombie horde in another sequel. I'd totally watch that movie! The video comes from Digital Spectrum Studios.

Nerdwriter's latest video seems to be his most ambitious and interesting yet. In this video, he explores the culture of "passable films" and why they are made, and while I think he makes some incredible points about what makes films mediocre that I considered before, I think he makes a misstep in his analysis.
It would appear Nerdwriter writes this theory under the assumption that all films are written, directed, and created for the purpose of becoming iconic or legendary or at the very least leave a lasting impression on the culture of filmmaking when they are done.
It's all about money. No one writes Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and says, "I wonder how many Golden Globes this one will snag?!" in an unironic fashion. Of course, there are films that strive to be something greater, but the examples presented in this film are nothing more than money thrown at...

You’ve heard of Paul Blart, haven’t you? Mall Cop extraordinaire? Across both the 2009 original and its bonkers sequel, Kevin James was thrust into an action-heavy role that we haven’t typically seen from the actor before. With True Memoirs of an International Assassin, James is about to take that to the next level.
That’s because Jeff Wadlow’s actioner will place James in the role of Sam Larson, a humble, mild-mannered author who is struggling to overcome writer’s block in his bid to publishing a debut novel. Imagine his surprise, then, when his nonfiction book becomes an overnight sensation. There’s just one small catch – Larson’s publisher consciously added the word ‘true’ to the masthead, fooling everyone into believing that James’ bumbling protagonist is actually a deadly killer-for-hire. Shenanigans ensue.

“ ‘[Paul Blart]: Mall Cop’ is a very funny film, and someone should make it, but that’s not what we’re doing. We want to work with visionary filmmakers who are making interesting films that you’re still going to be talking about in three years,” Amazon Studios chief Roy Price recently told Variety about the difference in approach between themselves and Netflix. Indeed, with their competitors serving a massive worldwide market, their original programming has to include fare that's broad enough to attract new subscribers, which means doing things like signing up Adam Sandler for a four-picture deal. We saw the first result of that collaboration with "The Ridiculous 6," which Netflix claimed was their most watched film on its service in its first thirty days of release. And now, comes "The Do-Over." Read More: Netflix Will Spend $5 Billion On Content In 2016; 'The Ridiculous 6' The Most-Watched Film...

It has come to full circle for Sylvester Stallone. The perennial Razzie awardee has just been redeemed! The Oscar frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor (see my full Oscar predictions here) won the Razzie Redeemer Award at the 2016 Golden Raspberry Award. It's all good now Mr. Stallone!
Meanwhile, both "Fantastic Four" and "Fifty Shades of Grey" took home the worst of the worst -- the Worst Picture of the year! They were both so bad that they had to share this dishonor!

The Razzie Awards have actually managed to stake their claim on a part of the film world now, with their yearly release not going unnoticed by anyone, and this despite the fact that you too can vote for them, as long as you buy in.
This year was bound to be dominated by the biggest winners, because no movie managed more universal hatred than Fifty Shades of Grey (and those who hated it weren’t always waiting for the release), unless it was Fantastic Four and it’s director outrage kurfuffle (he managed his own award as well).
Many of the other awards were largely foregone conclusions as well, mainly because Kevin James, Adam Sandler, and The Chipmunks made movies… or whatever.
Still, worst movies and performances make for tricky voting. It’s hard to pick among the nominees sometimes, which explains the dual win for overall worst picture, but...

While Hollywood is getting ready to celebrate itself with the Oscars, we must not forgot those films that were absolutely shite. Thankfully for the 36th year in a row The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has shined a light on the best of the worst announcing the winners for the Razzie Awards 2016.

Ben Stiller returns in Zoolander 2 - a sequel that takes its time finally getting going...
15 years have passed since Ben Stiller's clueless male model Derek Zoolander learned that there was more to life than being really, really, really ridiculously good-looking and was brilliantly, absurdly quotable doing it. In a world where Dumb & Dumber To came out in 2014, Zoolander 2 doesn't really feel like as much of a stretch, but that's one of the only reasons why it doesn't feel like a bit of a letdown either.
That's not to say there's not tonnes of potential here. The world of fame and fashion has only grown more absurd since 2001 and, in fact, the real world sometimes feels a little closer to the arch vapidity depicted in the original film. Social media has all but taken over the world, the Kardashians are somehow seen to be worth...

The nominations for the 36th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards have been announced and it's packed full of all the worst things in movies that we saw in 2015. Josh Trank's utterly terrible film Fantastic Four was unsurprisingly nominated for 5 awards this year including Worst Picture and Worst Director.
Other films included on the list include Fifty Shades of Grey, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, Pixels, and Jupiter Ascending. Some of the worst actors on the list of nominations include Johnny Depp, Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Channing Tatum, Katherine Heigl, Mila Kunis and Dakota Johnson.
There are a lot of terrible movies up for awards this year, so it's hard to predict who will win. But I think Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey will walk away with the majority of them. Here's the nomination video, and below that you'll find the full list. Look them over and let us know what your predictions are.

Here to spoil practically no one's Oscar hopes are the 2016 Razzie nominations. Once again, Razzie darling Adam Sandler leads the list, along with newcomer Fifty Shades of Grey. Surprisingly, Sandler's Netflix "hit" The Ridiculous 6 didn't make the list (is there such a thing as being too bad for the Razzies?), but Sandler's work in Pixels and The Cobbler landed him his umpteenth Worst Actor nod, with Pixels also up for Worst Picture. The Razzies also had no time for last year's Bdsm masterpiece, giving Fifty Shades noms for Worst Picture, Worst Actor for Jamie Dornan, and (controversially!) Worst Actress for Dakota Johnson. The universally panned Fantastic Four reboot also made the Worst Picture cut, alongside other memorable gems Jupiter Ascending and Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. "Winners" will be announced on February 27. While we’re all waiting with baited breath to see what tomorrows 2016 Oscar nominations may bring, the nominations for the 36th Annual Golden Raspberries have come our way, letting us know what the anti-Oscars will be ‘awarding’ as the worst movies and performances of 2015 the night before the Oscars, 27th February. The usual suspects are all there, from Adam Sandler to Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Fantastic Four, though I do feel they’re been a bit too hard on Jupiter Ascending. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it wasn’t a complete mess, and was just another example of The Wachowski’s totally nailing the visuals but not really doing the same with the story. This is also the second year of the Razzie Redeemer award, which acknowledges Razzie winners who have gone on to much better things in the last year. This category will be decided by public vote on Rotten Tomatoes.

Razzies: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fantastic Four, Pixels, Jupiter Ascending and Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 are the 2015 movies nominated for Worst Picture at the 36th annual Razzie Awards, which honor the worst movies and performances of the year. Also in contention are Johnny Depp (Mortdecai), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) and Adam Sandler, who's nominated for both Pixels and The Cobbler. Amanda Seyfried, Chevy Chase and Kayley Cuoco are also nominated for two films each. Check out the...

Yes, it's that time of the year again! The day before Hollywood pats itself on the back with Oscar nominations, the Razzies show up to remind everyone why Hollywood deserves a few raspberries with the champagne.
Besides as Jean-Ralphio could tell you, there's nothing more fun than honoring the wooooorst:
This year, there's a four-way tie for the dubious honor of most Razzie Award nominations: "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Pixels," "Jupiter Ascending," and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" got six nods. That, at least, is some small consolation for "Fantastic Four," which walked away with "only" five nominations. And "Pan," "Mortdecai," and "Human Centipede 3" were seriously let off the hook. (Hook -- get it? The worst!)
Here's an exciting note: Eddie Redmayne has a chance to win both an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year, since the reigning Best Actor winner will probably be nominated again for "The Danish Girl...

The Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies, have been "celebrating" the worst in film since 1980, and this year's nominations have just been announced. Leading the charge with nods in 6 categories is Fifty Shades Of Grey, but right behind it with 5 is Josh Trank's much maligned Fantastic Four reboot which picked up noms for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Remake or Sequel and Worst Screenplay. Channing Tatum's Jupiter Ascending also got a lot of recognition, as did Razzie regular Adam Sandler and anyone associated with anything he did in 2016. Only fair! The Razzies have been criticized for only going after the easy targets (films panned by most critics and box office flops), but what do you think? Anything you'd like to add to this list? Worst Picture Fantastic Four Fifty Shades of Grey Jupiter Ascending Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 Pixels Worst Actor Johnny Depp (Mortdecai) Jamie Dornan...

Start with the title: Clown Car! may sound like the movie someone will inevitably make about the 2016 presidential campaign, but how about evoking those great Seventies wacky-journey films like Death Race 2000, Vanishing Point or Smokey and the Bandit?
When I raised the question on Twitter, suggestions included All the President's Wanna-Bes, Every Which Way But Left, Cannonball Rug, A Kochwork Orange and the subtly appropriate Hair.
All excellent ideas, and we may have to put the movie name to a separate vote. Right now, though, the more pressing question is...

It.s been a bad summer for Sony Pictures. Ok, it.s been a bad year for Sony Pictures. Not only has the studio gone without a breakout hit all year, but most of their films actually classify as misses. With apologies to Kevin James, when the highlight of your year is Paul Blart, you.re not having a very good year. The Hollywood Reporter has the story about the rough year that Sony has been having. Former studio co-chair Amy Pascal apparently predicted the lack of breakout hits in an e-mail. An interesting coincidence considering the Sony hack which lead to the e-mail.s release went a long way to her losing the position. Still, she wasn.t wrong. While every other major studio has at least one film that has grossed $300 million, Sony.s strongest performer thus far is the aforementioned Mall Cop sequel which has grossed barely...

Early on in Irrational Man, Woody Allen’s latest half-narcotized attempt to dramatically grapple with a philosophically tinged moral crisis, a fellow academic tells Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix), “I loved your essay on situational ethics.” Abe, being a newly appointed professor/radical free thinker to the philosophy department of a picturesque Rhode Island college and himself awash in career disillusionment and an existential dilemma involving writer’s block, smiles and nods appreciatively and noncommittally. However, the audience may consider the Big Theme bell well and truly rung. Allen, who would never be so satisfied with a single easy proclamation of achievement, pads the first half of the movie with apparently awe-inspired compliments from fellow professors, administrators and students directed toward Abe’s prodigious intellect—his reputation doth well precede him, and he knows it. And you can bet that every classroom scene will be occasion to name-drop the heavy hitters-- Kant!

Where do you go after winning the Palme d'Or at Cannes for your first short film? For director/editor David Greenspan, who became the first USC student film to win the Palme d’Or for short films at the 54th Cannes Film Festival (with his graduate thesis film "Bean Cake"), the path to getting his feature film debut out into the world has been circuitous. Though his first feature film, a dark comedy called "51/50 Mall Cop," starring Kathleen Robertson, premiered in competition at the 2005 Slamdance festival, it's only now available on digital platforms. Below Greenspan details in 10 not-so-easy steps how he made the film and finally got it seen. Step 1 Go to film school. Make a thesis film. Win a Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at Cannes with thesis film. Step 2 Have a producer who saw thesis film at Cannes approach you and ask if you have any scripts.

The 17th annual Slamdance Film Festival is all set to run for eight days and nights Jan. 21-27. The festival is featuring a bold theme this year of “All Is Not Lost” where — due to the current devastating economic climate — Slamdance will donate 10% of ticket proceeds back to the filmmakers.
The fest is screening 14 feature films — 10 of which are in competition — and 8 feature documentaries, all of which are in competition. In addition, there will be 56 short films screening.
Plus, there are a couple of special screenings, including the Straight 8 event where anybody can register to receive a single roll of Super-8 film that they can use to direct their own in-camera edited mini-masterpiece. Also, on the 26th, there will be a special retrospective of the works of renegade ’60s filmmaker J.X. Williams.
The full film lineup is below, but for more information on the site please visit the official Slamdance website.
