Kaalchakra review :

Not many would know about this film directed by Dilip Shankar which became a surprise hit in Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra.

With a template borrowed from N Chandra's far superior Ankush (1986), Kaalchakra was about the frustrations and tribulations faced by the berozgaar youth in hands of politician-gunda nexus. Madan Jain almost repeated his role from Ankush here.

Suresh Oberoi played the cop while Sadashiv Amrapurkar was the baddie. Ishrat Ali, who attained notoriety in Kanti Shah films like Loha (1997) and Gunda (1998), made his debut as the main villain here. There was Priya Tendulkar in a small role.

This was director Dilip Shankar's one and only success and he made the Godfather inspired horrendous film called Aatank Hi Aatank (1995) after this.

Not bad for a one time watch especially if you love those raw realistic non starcast cinema of mid 80s, Kaalchakra is recommended to the discerning viewer.
