Guardian has a piece on the 7 best financial films for the release of The Big Short. Confession: I'm always surprised when internet lists remember that films existed before 1990. And this list has 4 of them [gasp]
Chud Have you heard Radiohead's Spectre theme. The studio went with Sam Smith instead for the latest Bond
Variety Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me is coming your way (and filming already). Given the massive success of Straight Outta Compton expect more hiphop/rap biopics
Gothamist Oooh. AMC Village 7 has reopened in Manhattan with spiffy new seats and bathrooms. I haven't been there in years but will have to return now. Now if only Film Forum and Village East would get renovations and they'd burn down the Angelika, Cinema Village, and Lincoln Plaza and build new non-tiny, non-crappy, subwayrumble-free arthouse theaters somewhere else... wouldn't that be swell?!
Mnpp the only recap of the recent...

Harry Potter stars including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Tom Felton, Warwick Davies and Bonnie Wright last night (June 18) attended the red carpet launch of a major new Harry Potter attraction at Universal Orlando.
The multi-million dollar expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter doubles the size of the tourist attraction, which originally opened in 2010. It will officially open to the public on Tuesday, July 8.
Visitors can now experience the world of the popular book and movie series in more painstaking detail than ever before, thanks to the impressive rendering of magical locations including Diagon Alley, Gringotts Bank and the Leaky Cauldron pub.
A new Hogwarts Express attraction allows fans with passes to both parks to ride the iconic locomotive from the new Universal Studios attraction to the existing Hogsmeade Village in Universal's Islands of Adventure.
Technology including digital video screens in place of windows makes the journey highly immersive.

As John le Carré might have written it – how things would have turned out if David Cameron had agreed to join the Kgb
✒It was startling to learn that David Cameron had been approached, in his youth, by Kgb officers who hoped to recruit him to the Soviet cause. Naturally he said no. But the opening this weekend of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy made me – and no doubt many other people – wonder how things might have turned out if he had agreed.
"Smiley sighed. He always found the smell of Templegate's Sobranie cigarettes irksome. 'It could go to the very top, sir,' Templegate said, 'the very top.' He brandished a manila file proudly like, reflected Smiley improbably, a hen laying an egg.
"'Bogerov told us in his debriefing. The code name is "Prophylactic". I don't know if that is a clue.'
"Smiley sighed again. Karla never left clues,...

Kill List (18)
(Ben Wheatley, 2011, UK) Neil Maskell, MyAnna Buring, Michael Smiley, Emma Fryer. 95 mins
Who knew there was a missing link between Mike Leigh, Andy McNab and The Wicker Man? That's how unpredictable this macabre and outlandish tale is, but it unfolds in a credible modern-day Britain scarred by foreign wars and domestic recession. Circumstances lead a blokey hitman and his partner to accept a dodgy new assignment – and by the time they start asking questions, it's too late.
Attenberg (18)
(Athina Rachel Tsangari, 2010, Gre) Ariane Labed, Vangelis Mourikis, Evangelina Randou. 97 mins
Fans of Dogtooth will be ready for another prime dose of Greek oddness. Beneath the animal impersonations, silly walks and bad sex lies an intelligent, intimate study of human behaviour.
Fright Night (15)
(Craig Gillespie, 2011, Us) Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, David Tennant. 106 mins
A teen vampire horror remake that benefits from superior effects, a shrewd Las Vegas setting, and some lively comedy.

The Skin I Live In (15)
(Pedro Almodóvar, 2011, Spa) Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Jan Cornet, Marisa Paredes. 120 mins.
Almodóvar's silky skills and supreme confidence tempt respectable audiences into an elegantly twisted tale of surgical obsession that few others could pull off. It's best not to spell things out too much about this; suffice to say Banderas's project to create a new form of skin, with Anaya his captive guinea pig, doesn't go where you'd expect.
As usual, there's a lot going on beneath the surface.
One Day (12A)
(Lone Scherfig, 2011, Us) Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Rafe Spall. 108 mins.
Fans might not have had Hathaway's migratory trans-Pennine accent in mind when they fell in love with David Nicholls's calendar-crossing odd-couple romance on paper, and the equally wayward period details detract even further. A pity, given the promising material, but Grazia readers will lap it up just the same.

Rebecca Hall in The Awakening I may sound like a spoiled brat when I say this, but the fact neither Carnage or Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy were part of this morning's Toronto Film Festival announcement sort of bums me out. However, there are other films that were added that do make my ears perk up, none more so than the addition of Whit Stillman's Damsels in Distress as well as a couple of films I didn't expect and some I had never heard of.
To begin, the closing night film which I guess will serves as something of a Tinker, Tailor replacement, David Hare's (screenwriter of The Hours and The Reader) Page Eight starring Bill Nighy, Rachel Weisz, Michael Gambon, Ralph Fiennes and Judy Davis. The film tells the story of Johnny Worricker (Nighy), an MI5 agent who has learned to keep his observational skills perpetually operational. However,...

Nearly five years after purchasing the Jupiter Island, Fl, property, Tiger Woods' newly remodeled house is ready for occupancy. Besides having enough rooms for each of his one-time mistresses, the 12-acre estate has a four-hole golf course, 100-ft.-long swimming pool, diving pool, spa, 100-ft. field and track area, tennis and basketball courts, a pair of boat docks, and a reflecting pond. Local real estate agent Jeff Lichtenstein said Woods has created a "mini Olympic Village." Either that or the world's ultimate bachelor pad.

At the rate she's going, Miley Cyrus will look like Bombshell McGee by the time she's 30, as the 18-year-old singer/actress has inked her fifth tattoo, this one in the shape of a dream catcher, planted on her torso.

Danny Miller has vowed to support Emmerdale bosses if they decide to create a long-term gay romance for his character Aaron Livesy. Village bad boy Aaron will begin to question his sexuality next week after he tries to kiss best friend Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) following a car accident. Miller has now confirmed that he would be happy to have a male love interest on screen if the show's team want to take Aaron's surprise plotline in that direction. Speaking to Digital Spy, he commented: "I think for them to do that, it would take a lot of time and a lot of effort to make the viewers believe it. "If they did that, I wouldn't have a problem with it because I think I'd know the right way to (more)...

It seems that each and every year is the best yet in gaming, but 2008 could see such a hyperbole come to fruition. It'll go down as a year where both new iterations of popular franchises and brand spanking new properties made a tsunami-sized splash, showering us all in a torrent of digitised brilliance. And unlike previous years, the standard has been sky high across the board, where any of our top ten choices could have easily been number one. November was the busiest month, with seven of our list released, and it'll probably take most people until late next year to fully get round to them. Digital Spy's gaming team scaled each blockbuster release into a final aggregated summary, discussed the final placements, then polished them off for your pleasure. We give honourable mentions to Super Smash Bros Brawl, Professor Layton And The Curious Village, Mirror's (more)...
