You may never look at Hamsters the same way again...
kyllir028 July 2003
I must admit when I first heard of Ebichu, the housekeeping hamster, I was sceptical, the picture I was shown was a horrendously cute hamster, but after I watched it, I was completely blown away! This anime throws stereotyped hamster stories out the window! Ebichu is a talking hamster that keeps house for her master, who is an office lady, and is at what is considered the oldest a woman can get before losing all chances of getting a decent husband. It was originally aired in Japan in a program block called 'anime bubble bubble hour' or 'anime awa awa awa' (awa is bubble in hiragana, and hour in katakana, its quite clever) What this program did was stretch the limits of what could be shown on television, Ebichu, while cute and naiive, can also at times be quite dirty-minded, and her master can at times be plain dirty, the humor in this show is more than enough to keep me coming back to watch more! I warn you though, you will never look at chestnuts and squirrels the same way again! Or animes about hamsters for that matter...

This anime will change your life!

This is a cute and funny anime for a teenage/adult audience wich unite these two worlds, the cute appeal and the dirty jokes. The hamster is so loveable and you can feel a conection to it. The jokes are funny and the episodes can be watched in the order you want, and you feel the need to see them again. The anime shows naked people but the graphics aren't much detailed in the private parts, the art is good thought, the design is well made. The episodes don't have boring parts and you feel like they should've made more, not because it feels short, but because it's great. I absolutely recommend you to see it!

Funny sleazy kinda anime but hard to watch seeing a hamster getting beat up always

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly you would feel bad for Ebichu that she's always getting beat up by her owner or her boyfriend, however she always survives no matter how brutal and bloody she gets hurt.

However to try and think of the funny happy stuff, it was hilarious what Ebichu comes out with. Especially the phone scene where the man on the other end of the line was asking such dirty questions to Ebichu because he thought it was her owner and she answered him so innocently haha!

As a previous hamster owner myself, it was kinda hard to watch a sweet innocent creature getting beat up every time she says the wrong things. Like animal abuse is never ok and that's why I'm giving this a 6/10.

Funniest animation since Excel Saga
danfeit2 October 2004
Oruchuban Ebichu is one of the funniest anime I've ever seen, certainly the funniest since "Excel Saga." What makes Ebichu even more appealing is the adult nature of the humor, coupled with the outrageous "cutesyness" of a talking hamster. I would also compare it to "Azumanga Daioh" in that the stories are very short, and there seems to be no sense of continuity, so one could watch the episodes in any order and not be confused.

It contains a lot of sexuality and sexual references but it's not pornography. It's far too silly and the art is much to "simple" to be erotic. Still, it's definitely not for children or anyone who can't handle puns involving genitalia. Highly recommended, although given the sexual content I doubt this will ever be imported to the United States.
