Slim Pickens was an actor known for One Eyed Jacks, Blazing Saddles and of course Dr Strangelove. What you get this week is not Pickens the actor iconically riding the bomb down to the ground in the Stanley Kubrick classic or any kind of online retrospective of his work, but slim pickings in terms of new streaming choices. So it’s Netflix’s time to shine….
Netflix has added more or less all of the low-key interesting independent films from last year with real gems like Safety Not Guaranteed and Maniac and even the lesser likes of Excision and Some Guy Who Kills People. It’s entirely possible that Lovefilm/Amazon is behind closed doors after last week’s Marvel/Netflix news, plotting something with DC comics but we will see…

It often doesn't take long for real-life controversies and tragedies to make their way to the big screen (last year's "Zero Dark Thirty" and "The Impossible," just to name some recent examples) -- but they don't usually come in as strange of a package as this.
"Wild Things," the provocative 1998 thriller starring Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Matt Dillon, Kevin Bacon and Bill Murray, could receive a sequel, but with a major twist: It'll be inspired largely by the Amanda Knox murder trial.
To be specific, it's not a sequel per se, according to director John McNaughton, who told Hollywood.com that, if made, the new movie will center on the original characters' children.
"Do you know the Amanda Knox case? It's something like that," McNaughton reportedly said. "Something that's like the child of Suzie Toller [Campbell's character], she claimed that Matt Dillon's [character] had raped her a long time ago and maybe...

John McNaughton, who directed the 1998 film "Wild Things," starring Matt Dillon, Denise Richards, Neve Campbell, Kevin Bacon and Bill Murray, hasn't worked for over a decade. But now, the helmer has revealed that he's planning to get behind the camera again for a new sequel to "Wild Things." In an interview with Hollywood.com, McNaughton said that he and Stephen Peters, who wrote the original film, as well as the direct-to-dvd sequels "Wild Things 2" and "Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough," have already worked out the story, which will focus on the children of the original characters. "It's not one of the sequels, but about their children," he said. "Do you know the Amanda Knox case? It's something like that. Something that's like the child of Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell), she claimed that Matt Dillon's [character] had raped her a long time ago. Maybe there is a child and...

If you take a few moments to brainstorm the shittiest ideas for film sequels that could also turn out to be amazing, you might instinctively come up with a few humorous answers, like Who Else Framed Roger Rabbit? or The Great Dictator 2: Even Greater. But no one in their right mind would ever stumble upon saying .a Wild Things sequel.. But that just means you're not director John McNaughton, whose right-mindedness is up in the air. McNaughton told Hollywood.com that another Wild Things film is in the works, and that he.s working on it with screenwriter Stephen Peters, who wrote the original film as well as Wild Things 2 and Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough. But forget about everything you.ve seen after the first one, because they want the new sequel to tell the story of the original movie's characters' children. Let this quote sink...

Director: Jack Perez. Review: Adam Wing. When you’re presented with a movie called ‘Some Guy Who Kills People’, a film directed by Jack Perez, the man behind Wild Things 2 and Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus, hopes (quite naturally) aren’t high. From executive producer John Landis (American Werewolf in London), Some Guy stars Kevin Corrigan, Barry Bostwick and our very own Lucy Davis (The Office). Low expectations can be a blessing in disguise but I should’ve had more faith because Some Guy is a darkly comic, ever-so-slightly stupid horror comedy with emphasis very much on the ‘c’ word. Ken Boyd (Corrigan) is a small-town loner who likes to draw, making ends meet at the local ice-cream parlour. Fresh out the loony bin, where he spent several years recovering from the horrific torture he suffered at the hands of the high school basketball jocks, Ken just wants to be left alone.

The cast simmered in the 1998 thriller, Wild Things. James looks back at a film full of unexpected twists...
Ah, the 90s sex thriller. I wonder if Paul Verhoeven knew exactly what he was about to unleash upon the world when in 1991 he instructed Sharon Stone to uncross her legs and Michael Douglas to wear a green jumper to a disco?
Basic Instinct kicked started a movie trend that would run for most of the remaining decade with varying results. The Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, cops and rompers caper was decent enough, but in its wake followed a trail of films of varying quality. Disclosure and Sliver proved that lightning wouldn’t strike twice for Basic Instinct’s two main stars, while Showgirls did the same for their director, who upgraded his directorial instruction for Elizabeth Berkeley during her sex scenes to “act like you’re being attacked by a shark”. Meanwhile,...

Already, at age 15, actress Ariel Gade has managed to make quite a name for herself inside and out of the genre world, and Dread Central had the opportunity to chat briefly with her about her most recent project: Some Guy Who Kills People
Ever since making her debut on television at the young age of 6, Gade has gone on to co-star in films like Envy, Dark Water and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem and portrayed youngster Rose Varon in the cult classic ABC TV series "Invasion." In Jack Perez's dark comedy Some Guy Who Kills People she appears as precocious tweener Amy Wheeler, who not only discovers she has a dad (Kevin Corrigan) but also figures out that he very well could be the killer behind a string of grisly murders in their small town.

I’ve started and stopped, deleted, began from scratch, it must be a year end list. I let these things stress me out far more than I should. I have a real problem with ranking films. I feel as, every film I watch, even some bad ones, are enjoyed at different levels, for different reasons. It seems wrong to me to slap an arbitrary number next to it. How do I rank my enjoyment? Especially if it’s due to different factors? Well, the answer is, I don’t. I’m going to list for you, 10 films of 2011 that I feel should be seen. Please don’t take it as an extensive list, as there are still Far too many flicks that were released at some capacity during the year that I gotten around to yet. Keep in mind that that there is no ranking involved. Movies are listed as they come to me,...

It's not the best title, is it? Trying to sell the excellent Some Guy Who Kills People is a lot harder than it ought to be when the name makes it sound like a slacker's Film Studies final year project submitted at the last minute. Hearing it's the next film from the director behind Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus and Wild Things 2 is none too helpful, either. But despite the lack of any overt showmanship and the baggage that comes with that pedigree, Some Guy really is one to watch. An unlikely romantic comedy centring on some guy who, well, does seem to be notching up quite a few murders in a small American rural town, it's blackly, violently funny - yet also meltingly...

Nielsen set out to answer that question with a recent survey with 12,000 online participants back in March (look at all those charts and graphs! Himym’s Marshall Eriksen would be in heaven!

Back in 1985 the film Clue, featuring a dynamo of a comedy cast with Tim Curry at its head, made a mockery of the murder mystery genre, and it did so expertly. 25 years later we’re still getting many films every year where the writer and director attempt to pull a fast one on the audience by throwing red herrings left and right. Some films have excellent hooks that you just never see coming, while others are as predictable as the Disney sequel that just reverses the plot points of the original.
Now, put Clue out of your mind and think back to the 1998 mystery thriller Wild Things, featuring Kevin Bacon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Matt Dillon, and Bill Murray. Was it a masterpiece? No, but it had a nice little mystery wrapped up in a soft-core porn package. It was trashy, shallow, and relied heavily on its cast to carry it through its theatrical run.

Your sleep has been off lately, hasn't it? You can't quite place your finger on it, but you haven't been getting your full eight and what few hours you do get are plagued by tossing and turning that leaves you feeling like you've barely slept at all. Admit it, you've been rattled by the thought that Wild Things 4 would be the next victim of the Die Hard 4 curse and end up going the PG-13 route.
What, you didn't know there was a Wild Things 4? Well you do now and the good news is it just received an R rating. What's the bad news? Wild Things 4 exists and it's rated R for "some sexuality/nudity, language and violence." I mean, come 'on. "Some sexuality/nudity'? John McNaughton's original erotic thriller starring Denise Richards, Neve Campbell and Matt Dillion was given a "strong" classification for the same things 12 years ago!

Yesterday morning we brought you first word on Some Guy Who Kills People, a new film being executive produced by horror legend John Landis (An American Werewolf in London). Today we exclusively learned that Jack Perez (Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Wild Things 2) will be getting behind the camera to bring Ryan Levin's ("Scrubs", I'm In The Band, The Fifth -- a short film that screened at over 60 film festivals worldwide, winning Best Short Film at Fantasia Fest, Fantastic Fest, Dead by Dawn and Dragon*Con) screenplay to life. In addition, we got more details, which sound pretty kickass: "The film is a horror-comedy about a lonely, small-town loser who sets out to kill each of the men he deems responsible for his miserable life." Shooting begins mid-January. Michael Wormser & Micah Goldman (Penance, Fox pilot "Tease") and Ryan Levin all produce.

Production begins early next year on Some Guy Who Kills People and the trio behind this one is eclectic. On writing duties is Ryan Levin, who directed a short film called Tour de Fright and penned an episode of Scrubs (on which he served as a P.A.). Then you've got Jack Perez in the director's chair. He gave us Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus and Wild Things 2 . On top of it all, there's John Landis ( An American Werewolf in London ) producing. What's it about? A quiet town is uprooted by a series of murders committed by someone bent on revenge. Sounds rather standard, but the title hints at a film with possible bite to it. Fingers crossed.

Entertainment, like life, can be pretty confusing. Marketing, whether it be televised commercials, print ads and posters, or viral campaigns, is so pervasive that a movie's basic premise and characters can be overwhelmingly familiar long before you even see the movie in question. Hell, one time I watched thirty minutes of "The Fisher King" thinking it was "Mrs. Doubtfire" before I realized that Robin Williams was playing a crazy drifter, not a cross-dressing divorcee. You can see how that would be an easy mistake to make, right?

Let's not lose our heads though. Let's not let our excitement for "Where the Wild Things Are" lead us into watching other movies that we might easily confuse it with. For example, we must...

Some movies are just too good to be true. Others are too true to be good. And this next film from Jack Perez (Wild Things 2, 666: The Child) is a little bit of both. On one hand, the director has successfully brought back Lorenzo Lamas and somehow-still-hot Debbie Gibson. And on the other, he has bypassed their obvious direct-to-dvd sales pull and decided to go for the gusto with a giant CGI shark and a giant CGI octopus who not only wreak havoc on humanity, they fight each other. Its ridiculous, it looks painfully awesome and I can't wait to see it when it hits DVD on May 26, 2009. The first trailer for Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus is out courtesy of the folks at MTV. You can check it out there in High Definition, or you can just enjoy it below. Your thoughts?...

Where in the world is Susan Ward? The brunette beauty who launched her acting career playing plucky heroine Meg Cummings on the NBC sudser Sunset Beach has been somewhat Mia after enjoying a string of roles in such big-screen fare as Shallow Hal and The In Crowd, and the made-for-dvd Wild Things 2.
Well, Ward is hopefully on her way back to series television ...

You know what's great about a title like Mega Shark vs. Giant Squid? The title doubles as the plot. It's about a mega-sized shark battling a giant-sized squid. What more do you possibly need to know? It's Mega Shark vs. Giant Squid!
The annual American Film Market begins a day after we vote for our next President, running from the 5th through the 12th of November. One of my favorite things around this time of year is heading over to Afm's website and taking a look around to learn about some of the new Dtv/made-for-cable movies already in the can and in the works for the coming year.
For example, I learned of a Sci-Fi Channel flick in the works titled Ice Twisters, about a liquid nitrogen weather experiment meant to fight global warming that ends up spawning tornadoes that shoot razor-sharp ice shards. Now that's what I'm talking about!

It seems like certain low budget filmmakers just flip through their serial killer trading cards looking for inspiration. I've no qualms about watching a documentary that deals with specific serial killers from a just-the-facts analytical point-of-view or even a well-made docudrama like Helter Skelter or Zodiac, but these DVD releases of late have just been low rent exploitation flicks of questionable taste and quality. This November necrophiliac serial killer Ed Kemper gets his turn.
"Co-ed killer" Edmund Kemper committed his first murders as a teenager in 1964 when he gunned down his grandparents, a crime for which he spent several years in a state mental hospital before convincing doctors he was sane. His killing spree resumed for a year beginning in mid-1972 with the brutal murders of six female hitchhikers; afterwards dissecting their corpses and performing necrophilia. His lifelong struggle with his abusive mother came to end in 1973 when he beat...

MTV's 'Monster' attacks Electra
Carmen Electra has been cast as herself in the upcoming MTV original movie Monster Island. A satire of classic monster movies, Monster will feature Electra as the celebrity host of a fictional MTV beach concert that goes awry when a giant creature crashes the party and flies away with her in its beak. The teen cast tries to rescue her with the help of a mad scientist, who will be played by Adam West, star of the 1960s TV series Batman. The cast is rounded out by Daniel Letterle, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Harrison, Chelan Simmons, Case Beddow and Joe MacLeod. Scheduled to air in first-quarter 2004, Island is being produced in partnership with In Sight Film & Video. The film will be directed by Jack Perez (Wild Things 2). Executive producers are James Shavick, Kirk Shaw and Ilan Briel. Electra is represented by Stephanie Simon at Untitled Management, UTA and attorney Renee Farrell.
