I mean, it's good for giving children nightmares.

I realized that, yeah this was to teach children valuable lessons for friendship, 3 stars for that. It's also good for giving children and adults nightmares though. Let that uncanny Valley face stare into their soul.

No buildings for you

It tries its best to compete with the juggernaut Thomas the Tank Engine.

I can't hate a show for trying. It just either came out at the wrong time. By the time it came out I was in school therefore less TV. Or it just didn't have the power like Thomas the Tank Engine to attract viewers.

The CGI for its time was great. The live people acting kind of below corny.

Verdict: Planes, trains and automobiles.

Can't handle it
badfatty25 July 2005
When seeing any children's show for the first time, I am usually either horrified, confused or disgusted. But after a few times of seeing the show (I have a 3-year-old) the horror and disgust will wear off, and it'll even make a margin of sense to me. Sometimes a show will actually grow on me. With Jay Jay--NOT THE CASE. This show doesn't even have a subtle charm beneath the annoying icky voices of the characters and artificial happiness. It is cheesy beyond cheesy, and the faces are creepy. And that helicopter (herkey) must roll every R, and it is like nails scraping a chalk board. I don't know why kids like this show, but it's not one of those that can be easily tolerated by the adult in the child's life who gets stuck watching it right along with him. If I had to choose one word to describe this show, it would be GROSS.

No, I just can't

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the worst TV shows on PBS Kids. I don't know where to begin, but let's start with the character designs and animation quality. The character designs are horrendous. It looks like they took faces off a cabbage patch doll (or even a human) and put them on an airplane. Creepy, right? I mean, Thomas did that, but their faces didn't look creepy because they looked more natural and actually put in effort to make their character designs look good, but this didn't. With this, the characters can move every muscle of their face, or their heads could even turn. Their realistic face designs were overdone as their body designs looked bad. The animation quality is equivalent of a bootleg/ mockbuster film. I cannot believe Tuffy's design. It is the worst of all, and i won't explain why because it's self explanatory. Revvin Evan reminds me off the internet troll face from the memes. The landscapes looked realistic, but shot with a low quality camera. The show looks worse the older I get. I noticed that the planes look like oversized babies. When looking at them compared to the human characters, you feel like they could easily eat them. However, I do have some respect for this because CGI animation was new then and technology wasn't as good as what we have today. And as it seems, the animation just didn't age very well unfortunately. But still, even Veggietales in 1993 looked better, despite coming out years before.

Now let's talk about the voice acting. It's terrible. The voices are annoying just like Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island, which is already a bad Spongebob rip off. Herky rolls every R in each sentence, similar to Porky pig. Even though I like Porky Pig and Looney tunes in general, this shows unoriginality and overuse of the stutter, making the joke old and unfunny. The other voices are pretty annoying and makes it hard to listen to, which is sad considering the show had some pretty talented voice actors (Debi Derberry from Jimmy Neutron).

10/10 great anime
carbnbasedlifegov23 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Jay Jay The Jet Plane is truly one of the greatest anime's of all time. This series is very gripping and i love (spoilers) when Jay Jay has to come to terms with the fact that he must kill rap-tar to save terry town. So all in all you should definitely check out this anime. But be warned it could possibly trigger Vietnam flashbacks during the action episodes. Since I need to write 10 lines I will talk about Jay Jays love interest. I don't want to spoil it but when Jay Jay confesses his love it had me crying. I never thought Jay Jay could do that. Yes does kill rap-tar but that's in later seasons. So you should really check out this anime. It's up there with the greats like Corey In The House, Jimme Nuetron, Shrek, and sponge bob for example.

Absolutely Incredible
reaghanweimer1 May 2017
Jay Jay the Jetplane is a work of art on its own. The CGI and Graphics bring so much life to the planes. The story-line is intriguing and keeps the plot going forward. There is so much action and suspense which really ties into the plot line. This show is great for any kid and adult alike. Truly a masterpiece.

Stunning!
swimlittleyu18 February 2017
This show is a brilliant work of art, if it was a painting it would be better than the Mona Lisa. The CGI still holds up to this day, capturing the emotions of the planes in every frame, really gripping at your heart. Just like the animation the story is gripping, intense, and beautiful, it's hard to beat. But yet it's simple and very easy to understand. And what really helps the story are the characters, or vice versa. I really can't tell, since everything is perfect. The writing lives up to everything else, and it progresses naturally, just like the dialogue.

Every little detail effects the show, from the music to the set and scene, it really sells the show. What more can be asked from this perfection of a show.

Glad to see my son #75992 became a jet plane
freddyfromfnaf11 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Son #75992 was a rowdy fellow so I had to kick him out of my sewer. When I kicked him out I saw on the news the headline "LOCAL BOY DISAPPEARS" and I saw the image was of #75992 i didn't care because I hated that cucc and because I have 9000000 sons but I was still curious what happened to him. I then changed the channel on my television and the film TUSK was about to start(great film btw). Anyway the film is about a guy being turned into a walrus ( genius simple plot). When the credits rolled it got me thinking "what if #75992 got turned into something" then A few days later Jay Jay the jet plane came out and I finally figured out where he went. I am now proud to say that I am a father of a human turned into an airplane.

Jay Jay is wonderful pre-school entertainment!
PainterWriter7 July 2005
This sensitively written, charming show is the perfect antidote to all of the blaringly loud, excessively high-energy, overstimulating media that assaults kids on a daily basis. What a nice opportunity for pre-school age children to be able to sit quietly and enjoy absorbing stories with age-appropriate messages, appealing characters and memorable songs. Parents will appreciate the thoughtful way that children's issues are addressed and the learning tidbits offered by "Brenda Blue." Their young children will be thoroughly entertained by characters that are easy for them to identify with. And what little kid wouldn't be excited about flying? Don't judge this show by adult sensibilities. If you don't have young children of your own, just take a minute to remember what it was like to be a small child and I think you'll see that this show is a winner.

Jay Jay Rocks!!!
lgranger-120 October 2005
I have a 2 1/2 year old who loves Jay Jay!!! The show's message is a positive one (unlike some Bob the Builder where they don't teach kids to be honest...)and the show is usually about teamwork, self-esteem, or encouraging one another. It is not an overtly Christian message, but there are elements of loving people for who they are and not judging them. This show is not meant for kids above 6-7yrs old (probably...) The show is meant for 2-5 year olds who are just learning how to deal and communicate with their peers. I know that someday he will grow out of Jay Jay, and that will be good....but for now I am thrilled that he loves the show so much.

Great for children
sonyabliss751 August 2005
This program is very educational and perfect for children.

The series contains upbeat songs and fun characters. The characters are easily likable and entertaining.

The education contained in this program is essential. The main topic is science. There is information about the planet's atmosphere and how important taking care of our planet is. Also, included is plant life and the ocean.

This program teaches morals and friendship through simple short stories.

Persons older than 5 years old may not be interested in this series but for the younger children it is perfect.

I am really pleased that PBS picked up this show to air.
