"Whenever I see you kissing a pretty girl, I shall know it is an elderly relation."
boblipton6 November 2018
When Francis Ford gets a letter that his sister is coming to visit, the attached photo falls into the hands of a local gossip, who goes to Edith Storey, Ford's fiancee. She makes light of it, but when the old biddy leaves, looks disturbed. When the sister arrives, Ford is driving her to the ranch, she gives him a sisterly kiss. Again, the gossip spots this and tells Miss Storey, who breaks their engagement, much to Ford's confusion. Later, when a prairie fire starts with the sister caught, Miss Storey sees her peril and considers letting her rival burn to death.

It's one of the movies that Gaston Melies shot in Texas for his brother's Star Films. Considering the elaborate effects and studio-bound nature of Georges Melies works, the naturalistic westerns are a surprise. Apparently they were popular enough that when Star Films went under, Ford and Storey went to Universal, where they became big stars; so big that Ford was able to get his baby brother John a job directing westerns.
