A real Russian "kinocomics", possibly, the only one of the previous millennium

Warning: Spoilers
This Russian video is almost forgotten and remains an outsider. It's rather careless, because the picture is unique and wild. Mr Nikolai Gogol would like this flick for sure.

It is not a "sci-fi", rather a "comedy/thriller/action/horror". It is neither "Solyaris" nor "Kin-dza-dza".

This film deserves more attention, unlike all manner of "Dozors" and "Matrix-Revolutions". Why so? Because it is a very important cultural product, which reflects one of the most dark and surreal time period of Russian history : the beginning of the 1990s. It was the time when the evil forces were tearing the flesh and mind of Russian people. To show it in a simple down-to-earth drama like "Avariya - doch menta" or "Igla" was not enough. Something freaky like "Viy" and ridiculously absurd like "Deja Vu" was needed. And thus "Gongofer" was born.

Plot outline: Two Cossacks are coming to Moscow to buy an ox. Moscow turns out to be a devilish hole crowded with witches. Some local witch seduces one of the Cossacks and robs him of his eyes, giving him alien blue ones instead. Now the two Cossacks are ready to World War III in order to get the eyes back. The quest begins.

Trivia: The movie's director, Mr Bakhyt Kilibayev, was also the creator of well-known in Russia "MMM" commercials with average citizens as "the stars". These funny and eccentric commercials ignited a lot of funny talks and anecdotes in the country. The activity of JSC "MMM" was also surreal and crowds of Russian people got rich and still more people - lost their last savings because of insane interests per each share. It was the time when the people of Russia got to know what "financial pyramid" was. Quite possibly, this film was produced with the funds obtained from these machinations.

So, being a rather dark and surreal picture, it gives a good taste of the twisted reality in the early 1990s. Quite possibly the modern generation and the people of other countries will not get it. As to me personally, it's a pleasure to watch something so strange, irregular, and stylish.

Almost forgot: during the movie you can also experience audio hooliganism, performed by Russian punk-group "Noll" ("Zero").

The biggest complain though is the quality of the picture. It's often hard to tell what exactly is going on... But, maybe, it's good? Anyhow, it's like a prolonged version of "Idu, kuryu" music video.

8 out of 10 - even on international level it is unique and mad with its very weird kicks and thrills. Thank you for attention.
