I did not feel much like Superman in this one...

The game was not bad, mind you, but when I am playing as Superman I expect him to be super. Not your standard video game lead in a beat em up game. Which means if you are going to be fighting stuff, perhaps some robots and monsters, not biker dudes with chainsaws and molotov cocktails. To be fair, a lot of the levels have more monstrous foes, but the molotov cocktails thrown by the biker dudes causes Superman more damage than Superman's heat vision does on them...

The story, you get kind of an introduction story where you fight these underground dweller people before Doomsday appears and begins causing destruction. Not even the, not appearing but they are mentioned, Justice League can stop him. It is up to Superman and thus he fights more biker dudes before battling Doomsday twice. Perhaps a beat em up was not the best way to convey this story? Well Superman dies, as in the comic, and then you play as various other Supermen including a Cyborg who seems cool at first, but then becomes evil. The Vindicator who was my fave as he has some speed to him. Superboy who has some good attacks and Steel who is slow but has the best reach.

The game play is standard beat em up fare and it is alright, I just want to feel like I am Superman and I did not in this game. The enemy types are few and the bosses not all that great as you usually just fight one of the other Supermen after Doomsday and they all fight cheap. The game allows you to continue and just to say, if you have lost any lives or used up your special attack just allow yourself to die to start off the level so you can come back full powered; otherwise, you may get far only to lose and only to have to restart the level from scratch!

So the game has good graphics for the time and it is okay, but nothing too great. Superman and all the Supermen have so few attacks and can get quickly overwhelmed by enemies these guys should be destroying. I think Marvel's Maximum Carnage is better as Spider-man fits better in a beat em up as he is not invincible. Seeing Superman taken down with a chainsaw is ludicrous. There are also more characters in Maximum Carnage, villains and enemies. This one is worth a play through, but it will become extremely monotonous near the end when you keep fighting the same three enemy types again and again!

One of the better and best Superman Games out there
MovieCriticMarvelfan21 September 2003
Since 1994, there have been many Superman games, some good and some sucky like the Nintendo 64 version of Superman, but this game done by Blizzard Entertainment who would gain fame from the "Diablo" games is pretty good if not great.

Just like the comic book, "Superman" dies but is later resurrected and comes seeking vengeance, via his Super Powers such as his heat vision, and super punches.

Game is great, great graphics utilizing the then Sega Genesis 16 bit ability.

Check it out, this game and the new Gameboy Advance ad Gamecube versions of Superman are the best.
