Just like the Book
williams-kiki27 December 2005
There is a book to this movie, also called "Someone was Watching." We received this movie for Christmas, and couldn't believe it. The book was very good, and we were hoping that the movie would be. I was impressed. Yeah, it was not a "big budget" film, but sometimes those are the best ones. It was a GOOD movie. It didn't leave you bored, but sometimes in suspense. Overall, I thought it was a very nice movie, and followed the book just as it should. I'm very glad that it stayed up to the book's potential. In the movie, Chris' younger sister Molly is presumed drowned at a nearby lake. Chris, and his friend, realize that Molly may be still alive. Chris' friend tells Chris that sometimes you need to do things that you are afraid of. Another cute addition to the movie is of course, the well-known "Anne" of Green gables. Megan Follows plays a nice waitress who helps the boys. I would recommend this movie. It's worth seeing.

Well made and suspenseful

A family is deeply traumatised by the disappearance of the youngest child , a pre-teenage girl ,but her elder brother and his best friend become convinced that she is still alive ,not drowned as most people believe .They travel from their Colorado home to New Mexico ,persuaded that the key lies in the arrival of an ice cream vendor at the sight of the disappearance ,and the subsequent departure of the vehicle's owners from the area . They encounter hostility and suspicion from the town law before events are brought to a lively climax Well acted by a personable and talented cast this is a minor but well told tale that should be better known than it is

A bad bad movie

I have to say that this movie was really quite awful. the acting was average the pacing of the movie was terrible as well as the soundtrack and cinematography.i found that i was bored in most parts of the movie and the cliché lines did nothing for me. the two boys that played the main roles looked terrible at times and did'nt pull off the emotion that was needed in the movie. the little girl was creepy at times and looked like a doll which was scary. the ending wasn't satisfying although the movie to be over the ending didn't make me feel anything for the characters. this movie was boring and did nothing for me, I recommend this movie to no one.

A modest but well-made mystery/family drama.
rogulus30 May 2005
I can't expect all movies to be like this one, nor would I want them all to be. Variety is good. On one end of the spectrum, there are the flashy, big-budget, action-packed films with iconic characters and unrelenting snappy dialogue. On the other end of the spectrum there are films like this one ... stories about ordinary people (albeit in extraordinary circumstances). With some notable exceptions, the characters interact with each other like normal people do: with some humor, with warmth, with disappointment, with anger, and with self-doubt and a desire to deal with life in the best way they know how.

This is a story about a family (father, mother, teenage son Chris) dealing with the loss of a loved one while on a family outing to a regular vacation spot: in this case, a daughter perhaps four or five years old. The daughter, Molly, disappears by a riverside while she was supposed to be supervised by her older brother Chris (who had fallen asleep while the parents went for a walk). The only sign of the girl is her coloring book floating in the river and she is presumed drowned ... "presumed" because a search-and-rescue diver fails to find her body in the deep waters and swift current of the river. The father and mother have -- with much difficulty -- learned to deal with the tragedy and have decided to move on with their lives. Chris is in just as much grief, but stumbles upon something that leads him to believe that his sister Molly did not drown in the river but was instead kidnapped.

Is Chris just feeling guilty because Molly disappeared while she was supposed to be under his care? Is he so desperate to absolve himself that he is willing to latch onto any thin thread of hope that his sister is really still alive? His parents discourage him from investigating further and feel that he should just move forward with his life as they have. But Chris' best friend Pat -- who has domestic problems of his own and deals with reality by taking risks and telling good-natured lies -- convinces Chris to see the investigation through.

Some parts of this movie are rather far-fetched (especially late in the film when a certain character pursues a station wagon while riding a bicycle and stays on the chase far longer than can be credibly believed), but such flaws can be overlooked.

Overall, this is a story well told about friendship and family. No matter how the mystery plays out, the relationships between Chris and his best friend, and between Chris and his parents are believable and well-acted. Megan Follows of "Anne of Green Gables" fame turns in a nice performance as a sympathetic waitress serving as a bridge between Chris and a skeptical County Sheriff who believes Chris is up to no good as Chris sneaks around with his friend Pat in their search for Molly.

Intended as a cautionary tale about parents keeping their children safe (and including as an extra on the DVD a message directed at children about how to STAY safe), this well-intentioned drama has suspense, mystery, and steady pacing to recommend it.

Simply wonderful
welsh_werecat14 September 2005
It has been a long time since a movie can make me go through a whole range of emotions during it's run: Fear, Excitement, Sorrow, Joy. This movie did that for me. I sat down to watch it, not planning to see it all the way through, only to find myself unable to leave the TV set. This movie sucks you in, and leaves you thinking about it for hours afterwards. Watching the boys' desperate search for clues for the whereabouts of Molly, then finally finding her keeps you on the edge of your seat. You WANT them to find her so much, and when they finally do, your heart goes out to them. You feel as if you are right there with them. A very powerful film, that deserves more recognition than it gets.

This film is one that many people don't know about but should. It is actually good.

I had never heard of this movie but saw it in a store and it intrigued me. I thought a local person who made another movie. However, this caught my attention from the first. It kept me captivated. There wasn't any violence, any swearing or any sex. Could this really be true? A good movie without the so called "IN" content that movie makers say they have to have or else people won't see their movies. Well, guess what? It was good. I would recommend watching this as a family and then discuss it with your children. It has an important message or two that should be discussed.

A great film to watch in the wee hours
DaniGRobinson25 June 2004
When I turned the TV on I didn't plan on watching a movie. All I did was come downstairs for a glass of water. So I switched this on and found myself, very surprisingly hooked! I don't know whether it was because I found Pat aka Ben Watson hot or the fact it was such a good storyline but I really enjoyed this film. It certainly raises some important issues and shows that sometimes us teenagers are telling the truth, it was such a good film in my opinion (Which is strange because I only usually like weird films) I only wish now I had some cash to buy it. I really love these sort of small budget films, there is something so much more realistic about it rather than it coming from Hollywood celebs. Now, does anybody know where I can get ahold of Ben Watson, he's quite fine! Oh and Molly is sooooo cute!

I found this movie O.K.
apackett18 May 2010
Firstly I found the reviews from other people very strange indeed. What did you all expect? The film is from a low budget film studio and found the movie really O.K. It had plenty of twists and unexpected turns making a very guess as to what was happening. I enjoyed the film/DVD immensely and thought that the other reviews have been unfounded. Give these guys a go with a new attempt to keep us all guessing.

If you want a movie that keeps you guessing on the low budget scale that have a look. If you want the DVD then email me with your address and I will send you a copy.

As a summary I enjoyed it and have watched it many times. I have several thousand movies in my collection and enjoyed this one many times.

Not Bad!
film_freak2613 February 2004
I liked this film, I wouldn't say it was the greatest film I'd seen in my life but it was good. Some of it was a little unreal, I mean the whole idea of the policemen not being trusting, there should of been some kind of investigation for Molly properly. But it did get me in suspense every now and then such as when Bud got Molly back again. Watch this film in a space of time where nothing else major is going on. I give it 3 stars
