A Fight to Reign
ejiggy26 February 2007
Tough as nails, no holds barred skater girls take on the challenge of traveling competition to competition with no expectation of success. In a world where males rule in extreme sports, these girls push the limits to play at their level if not above.

The story starts with the girls packed in a small hippie van with gear in tow driving from place to place racking up points, awards, and respect in their sport. With Dave acting as big brother, father, and coach the girls slowly open up and become goofy group of pranksters. However the competition does not come just between them and other girls they come across on tour. There is no denying there is some heat amongst the clan.

The journey of these young women worked its way into my heart enough to write this review, because I have always tried to make it in "guy sports" but was pushed back or down on every turn, and to see young women succeeding and going places not many have gives me hope for the future of the sport. AKA: Girl Skater is a brilliant documentary, and I only hope more people discover the heart of this film. This documentary takes you into the minds, hearts, and struggles of these young women as they fight to create a blip on the radar. Even though by the story's end they were still not heard in the way they would like, there is no way that these young women will be stopping anytime soon, and the age of women's extreme sports is surely yet to come.
