The advocate of personal liberalization
zzmale7 April 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The distant Star.

This movie made in the early era of the Chinese reform is a pioneer in personal liberalization. In comparison to most other Chinese movies of its time, this movie is unique in that unlike the rest which mainly advocate the freedom of spousal selection, this one advocates the freedom of career selection.

This movie also points out the important fact that higher pay or greater benefit/stability are not necessarily the best career choices because people are not happy doing what they do not like. Doing something you like is matters more and the financial aspect of the job only come in as the second.
