'RoboCop' Star Peter Weller Would Return for Reboot if the Script Is Right
Image
Science fiction icon Peter Weller has offered an exciting response when asked about the upcoming RoboCop reboot, which is coming (whether we like it or not) courtesy of Amazon Prime Video. Weller first starred as the iconic character who, of course, is part man, part machine, all cop, way, way back in 1987, and has now stated that he would return for the reboot if the script (and the money) is right.

Following the acquisition of MGM Studios by Amazon back in March 2022, a RoboCop reboot is now in the works, with both a movie and television series now being discussed. Speaking with TMZ recently about his new book “Leon Battista Alberti in Exile: Tracing the Path to the First Modern Book on Painting,” Weller revealed that he would come back for more crime-fighting action and existential crises. He said:

“As far as the RoboCop reboot, I don’t know. I...

'Severance' and Dichen Lachman Fans Can Stream Emmy-Nominated 'Last Resort'
Image
When she first appeared as Ms. Casey on Apple TV+'s acclaimed sci-fi satire Severance, Dichen Lachman left quite an impression despite her limited screen time. To some viewers, it might have seemed like she appeared on the scene out of nowhere, as enigmatic and unknown as her character. But while Severance is clearly a big step in her career, Lachman has been appearing on screens large and small for decades, beginning in her home country of Australia with a role in the long-running soap opera Neighbours.

Lachman made her debut stateside in 2009 in Joss Whedon's short-lived series Dollhouse, followed by a run of guest spots on some of the biggest shows of the era. Her next main role would come in 2012, on another series that was canceled before its time, the political thriller series Last Resort. Following the tense aftermath of a US Navy submarine's refusal to fire ballistic missiles at Pakistan,...

“I never thought I’d work in television again”: Criminal Minds Star Mandy Patinkin’s Horrible Track Record Made His Homeland Casting a Notoriously Risky Gamble
Image
Regardless of if one has seen any of Mandy Patinkin’s works, chances are that they would recognize his face. The actor has been a cherished part of Hollywood for over four decades, and the reputation that he has crafted in this time is something to be studied. While he is known for his versatile acting skills, he has also become known for something else.

Mandy Patinkin on Criminal Minds | Credit: CBS

Over the years, that actor has gained a reputation for getting tired of the shows that he stars in. Patinkin has become known for walking away from projects early, forcing television to become more hesitant when hiring him in bigger roles. However, in 2011, he decided to break this pattern and star in Homeland.

A Minor Grey's Anatomy Star Gave Smallville Its Best Villain 4 Years Later
Image
To most fans of Smallville, Lex Luthor was the show's most iconic villain. Actor Michael Rosenbaum gave such a standout performance that he is still considered by many to be the quintessential star to play the famed Superman villain. When Rosenbaum left the show, the writers needed to find another villain-shaped void to replace the gaping hole left by Lex's absence in the show. Doomsday/Davis Bloom (Sam Witwer) came onto the scene as the main antagonist in Season 8. By the end of the same season, Zod (Callum Blue) would be introduced as the next formidable force for Clark Kent (Tom Welling) to face. However, this version of Zod would be completely original to the show and different from what had been previously depicted on the CW series.

Blue entered Smallville Season 9 as a new and dynamic version of Zod who would plague the town of Smallville for the final two seasons of the show.

Nancy Allen, Peter Weller, Miguel Ferrer, and Kurtwood Smith in RoboCop (1987)
RoboCop | New TV series revealed, James Wan overseeing
Nancy Allen, Peter Weller, Miguel Ferrer, and Kurtwood Smith in RoboCop (1987)
With plans for a new RoboCop film seemingly not advancing, we’re now getting a(nother) RoboCop TV series instead.

Making a movie isn’t easy. Making a good movie, then, is presumably even harder. Making a great RoboCop film though? That has to be close to impossible. While each film in the beloved splatterpunk action franchise contains elements that demand repeat viewings, only the 1987 original is generally considered to be an all-time great. You could argue that audiences and executives been chasing the dragon ever since, looking to replicate the formula that created a genre classic.

That hasn’t stopped plenty of people from trying though. From the original film’s sequels to the 2014 remake, not to mention Neill Blomkamp’s ill-fated RoboCop Returns – a highly-anticipated project that would never come to fruition – nothing has matched the heady blend of graphic violence, sharp satire and earnest charm that Paul Verhoeven’s original possesses.

The “Robocop” reboot series has assembled quite the crew.

The Amazon MGM Studios production now has James Wan attached to executive produce alongside showrunner/writer/EP Peter Ocko, TheWrap has learned. They will be joined by fellow EPs Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing for Atomic Monster.

The official logline reads: “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”

Robocop TV Series at Amazon Finds Showrunner in Peter Ocko, with James Wan Producing
Nancy Allen, Peter Weller, Miguel Ferrer, and Kurtwood Smith in RoboCop (1987)
RoboCop is making his way to streaming, and the new TV series has found some heavy-hitting talent to guide it. Released in 1987 and directed by Paul Verhoeven, RoboCop was a dark satire about police officer Alex Murphy being revived after a gruesome murder by megacorporation Omni Consumer Products (Ocp) as the titular RoboCop. The film spawned a successful franchise that included two sequels, a 2014 reboot, several television series, video games, comics, and toys. A pop culture staple, it was only a matter of time before the character returned.

Variety reports that a new RoboCop series for Prime Video is being developed at Amazon. Peter Ocko will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Orcko is a veteran writer with a long history in television, having worked on series like Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, The Office, and Boston Legal. Friday the 13th Prequel Series Finds a New Showrunner
Image
The Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake is back on track with a new showrunner. Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller originally signed on as showrunner when the series was announced back in 2022, but Fuller was fired from the project earlier this summer. That doesn't mean the series was scrapped, and now it appears that A24 and Peacock have found the right person to revive this popular '80s slasher for the streaming era.

According to Variety, Brad Caleb Kane will serve as the new creator, showrunner, and executive producer on Crystal Lake. Kane is no stranger to making series prequels to popular horror films, as he just wrapped production as co-showrunner and executive producer on It: Welcome to Derry. Kane's other writing credits include Fringe, Black Sails, and Warrior. His most notable credit might be as the singing voice of Aladdin in the 1992 animated Disney film. Kane released a statement...

Bryan Fuller Reportedly Gave Up on Crystal Lake for This Reason
Image
No matter what career you find yourself in, burnout is almost inevitable. Its easy (especially when you love your job) to take on too much at once and become overwhelmed by the amount of work piling up in front of you. According to The Wrap, who spoke with sources close to both A24 and televisions Bryan Fuller, burnout is precisely what drowned the pairs Peacock series. While the revered studio is still attempting to push forward and reimagine the project with a new showrunner at the helm, Fuller is officially no longer on board, having jumped off the canoe back in May. Now, we finally have some insight into what tore the Star Trek: Discovery and Dead Like Me creator from the Friday the 13th TV series prequel in the latest set of anonymous comments.

Bryan Fuller Axed from A24 ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Series
Image
Bryan Fuller and A24 have severed ties over the “Friday the 13th” Peacock prequel series.

The show was announced in 2022 at Peacock with the title “Crystal Lake,” and while details were kept under wraps, the series was confirmed to be a prequel to the original 1980 slasher film that followed the Voorhees mother-son duo as teenagers were murdered at an abandoned summer camp.

The series will go on, IndieWire has confirmed. A24 will remain the studio and Peacock the platform — they’re currently searching for a new showunner. Production on the series had yet to start.

“Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with. These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me,” Fuller captioned on Instagram. “For reasons beyond our control, A...

‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Series From A24, Peacock Loses Showrunner as Bryan Fuller Exits
Image
The “Friday the 13th” prequel series in the works at Peacock from A24 is in search of a new showrunner.

Bryan Fuller — who was announced as the show’s writer, executive producer, and showrunner when it was first ordered to series in 2022 — took to Twitter to announce that he has been fired from the show due to creative differences.

“For reasons beyond our control, A24 has elected to go a different way with the material,” he said. “We hope the final product will be something ‘Friday the 13th’ fans all over the world will enjoy.”

Trouble on the series was first reported earlier in the week by the InSneider newsletter. However, according to an individual with knowledge of the project, the series order remains in place with hopes to line up a new showrunner as soon as possible. Production had not begun on the series, nor had any casting taken place.

Friday The 13th Prequel Show Update Suggests The Franchise Might Actually Be Cursed
Image
Crystal Lake's "retooling" indicates significant issues with the prequel show. Past problems in the Friday the 13th franchise halt production and threaten recovery. Despite the challenges, a strong production team provides a glimmer of hope for Crystal Lake's future.

In 2022, A24 and Peacock announced that they would be teaming up to produce Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th television series, but the latest update on the show is concerning. Despite being one of the most well-known franchises in horror, it's been 15 years since a new Friday the 13th film was released. This makes the franchise overdue for a continuation. A24 and Peacock have both had massive success in the horror genre, making them perfect choices to bring this iconic series back from the dead. However, it seems like Crystal Lake's production is facing some major issues.

The series is reported to be a prequel to the original Friday the 13th.

Showtime Cable Channel Is Now Officially Paramount+ With Showtime, But What Does That Actually Mean?
Image
There is some level of content reciprocity between the two versions of Paramount+ With Showtime, but the whole thing is just confusing.

Nearly one year ago, when Paramount Global announced that it would be rebranding its iconic premium cable network Showtime as “Paramount+ With Showtime,” it drew a lot of confusion from customers and people in and around the industry. The first step in this transformation came when the company renamed the premium, ad-free tier on its flagship streaming service Paramount+ with the Paramount+ With Showtime moniker back in June 2023. As of Monday, Jan. 8, Paramount has now officially made the move on the cable side as well, making things even more confusing than they already were.

As of Monday, both the ad-free streaming tier and premium cable channel are known as Paramount+ With Showtime. Streaming subscribers have access to the linear channels, but linear subscribers will not automatically have access to the streaming service.

What Are the Top 25 Pilot Episodes of All Time and Where Can You Stream Them?
Image
The Streamable has compiled a list of the top 25 pilots in TV history, and where you can watch them now.

The breadth of TV content available these days is truly staggering. Whether on live channels or on-demand, on linear TV or via subscription streaming services, there has never been a wider availability of TV shows, and that can create some real uncertainty about where to start!

When picking a new TV series, it’s obviously best to start with the pilot. That’s a TV industry term for the first episode of a series, and every show that’s ever been made (along with thousands that ultimately weren’t sent to production) has had one.

Choosing the best titles amongst these is difficult, particularly since “best” is a subjective term dependent on the individual user to interpret. However, the following list has been pulled from an Ask Reddit thread which...

Bryan Fuller, AMC Networks Hit With Sexual Harassment Lawsuit From ‘Queer for Fear’ Producer
Bryan Fuller in Dead Like Me (2003)
“Queer for Fear” executive producer Bryan Fuller has been sued for alleged sexual harassment and sexual assault on the set of the 2021 Shudder docuseries. An attorney for the “Hannibal” creator said he intends to countersue for defamation and malicious prosecution.

Sam Wineman, a producer on the series about the history of LGBTQ characters and actors in horror movies, claimed that from 2020 to 2022, Fuller “cultivated and maintained a hostile work environment” that included “harassment, discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault and retaliation.”

In Wineman’s suit, which filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, he alleged that “Mr. Fuller sexually assaulted plaintiff several times” throughout the production of the series. AMC Networks, its horror streaming site Shudder and Steakhaus Productions are also named in the suit, which was filed by Good Gustafson Aumais Llp of Los Angeles.

‘Crazy Fun Park’ Review – An Emotional Gateway Horror Series from the ‘Boys in the Trees’ Director
Image
The concept of death can be confusing at any age. Even adults have a hard time processing this unavoidable part of life. For young people, though, death should be the last thing on their minds. And for a long time, the two main characters of Crazy Fun Park didn’t have to consider their mortality. Best friends Chester and Mapplethorpe were more concerned with finishing their graphic novel and making it to school on time each morning than the possibility of never seeing each other again. Yet in this Australian teen-drama series, death catches these boys completely off guard and puts their friendship to the test.

Death is typically the conclusion of relationships in other stories, but here it’s just the beginning for these two soulmates. Chester and Mapplethorpe (neatly played by Henry Strand and Stacy Clausen) are the embodiment of the word “inseparable.” Drawing from real life, series...

The film is being described as a “throwback to the family horror films of the 80s.”

Bob Odenkirk's Saul Goodman Was Only Supposed To Last 4 Episodes, Not 13 Years
Image
Bob Odenkirk played the character of Saul Goodman for 13 years, first appearing in the second season of "Breaking Bad" to guide Walter White into the depths of the criminal underworld. Future appearances marked him as a key player within the show's supporting cast, able to function as a comic archetype as well as a moral barometer for just how far White had fallen in his quest for power. Two years after "Breaking Bad" ended, Odenkirk returned to lead "Better Call Saul," a spin-off that arguably surpassed its parent series by the final episodes. Odenkirk received five Golden Globe nominations, five Emmy nominations for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series," and another six Emmy nominations for "Outstanding Drama Series" in his capacity as a producer for "Better Call Saul." Taken separately, Odenkirk's performances in "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" are impressive. Together, they represent a process of long-form character...

Caroline Dhavernas On Hannibal's New Streaming Home, Cult Following & Future
Image
After years of dominating Netflix's charts, Hannibal is finding another streaming home on FilmRise. Developed by Dead Like Me's Bryan Fuller, the series acts as an adaptation of Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter novels, primarily that of Red Dragon, centering on the unique relationship between the titular forensic psychiatrist/serial killer and tortured FBI criminal profiler Will Graham as they play a deadly game of cat and mouse as the former toys with the damaged psyche of the latter while he solves a variety of disturbing murders.

Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen led the cast for Hannibal alongside Caroline Dhavernas, Hettienne Park, Laurence Fishburne, Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, Gillian Anderson, Raúl Esparza, Kacey Rohl, and Lara Jean Chorostecki. Despite garnering rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, Hannibal only ran for three seasons on NBC due to low ratings, going on to be considered a cult classic that had...

Netflix Set Warrior Nun Up To Fail
Image
Netflix has canceled Warrior Nun after two seasons, leading to speculation about whether the streaming service set the show up to fail. Warrior Nun was renewed for a second season just a month after its debut on Netflix, despite a mixed reception and middling reviews. Warrior Nun season 2, however, debuted to rave reviews in November 2022, earning a critics score of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes, accompanied by a 99 audience score. Now, the news has broken that Netflix has canceled Warrior Nun after two seasons, through a tweet posted by the show’s creator, Simon Barry.

Since Warrior Nun’s cancelation was announced by Simon Barry, the hashtag #SaveWarriorNun has been trending on multiple social media platforms, proving the scale and devotion of its fanbase. While Netflix often cites viewership numbers as the main reason for the decision to cancel or renew certain shows, Warrior Nun season 2 spent three weeks in Netflix’s...

‘Darby and the Dead’ Trailer – ‘Mean Girls’ Meets ‘Dead Like Me’ in Hulu’s Supernatural Comedy
Image
From 20th Century Studios, Riele Downs stars in the supernatural comedy Darby and the Dead, and the official trailer has arrived ahead of the film’s Hulu premiere on December 2.

Some people never truly leave you…alone. After suffering a near-death experience as a young girl, Darby Harper (Downs) gains the ability to see dead people. As a result, she becomes introverted and shut off from her high school peers and prefers to spend time counseling lonely spirits who have unfinished business on earth.

But all that changes when Capri (Auli’i Cravalho), the Queen Bee of the school’s most exclusive clique, unexpectedly dies in a freak hair straightening accident, resulting in the obvious cancellation of her upcoming “Sweet 17.” Capri, however, pleads with Darby from the other side to intervene and convince Capri’s friends to proceed with the party as planned.

In order to appease the wrath of the undead diva,...

Every Upcoming Bryan Fuller Horror Project (Including Friday The 13th)
Image
Here's every upcoming horror project from writer/director Bryan Fuller. On TV, Fuller began his career working on shows like Star Trek: Voyager but co-creating cult hits such as Dead Like Me or Pushing Daisies. While he dipped his toes into horror with 2002's Carrie - a TV movie based on Stephen King's novel - it was Hannibal that became his magnum opus. The show framed itself around the relationship between troubled profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and his psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), with the latter secretly being a cannibalistic serial killer. Fuller brought both a psychological intensity, arty aesthetic and even a sense of romance to the series.

Despite being adored by its "Fannibals," Hannibal was never a ratings hit and was canned after three seasons. Fuller has jumped around many projects in the years since, though he ended up departing from the likes of Star Trek: Discovery and American Gods.

Christina Applegate ‘Pretty Convinced’ That ‘Dead To Me’ May Be Her Final Acting Role Due To Ms
Image
Christina Applegate will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week, and to mark the occasion she sat down with Variety for an extensive interview covering the past, present and uncertain future of her acting career in the wake of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis last year.

In addition, next week will also see the debut of the third and final season of Netflix comedy “Dead to Me”, a role that she describes as “a gift.”

Playing Jen Harding in the series, she admitted, could be the end of the line for her. That role, she mused, is “quite possibly the last one I’ll play. With my disease, I don’t know how capable I am.”

12 Shows Like Hannibal That Will Get Your Blood Pumping
Image
Bryan Fuller's style is difficult to replicate. Full of detail, sometimes muted by shadows or vibrant with gore, it's easy to recognize his signature on earlier creations such as "Pushing Daisies" and "Dead Like Me." "Hannibal" has resonated the strongest with his fans, though. Hannifans are a testament to the power of fandom, keeping this three-season series alive — with the hope of a continuation — via new art, fanfiction, and recreating Hannibal's cuisine with the help of the series' food consultant Janice Poon ... without Lecter's most unique, uh, ingredients.

Sumptuous and elegant (are we talking about the show or Mads Mikkelson as Dr. Hannibal Lecter?), Fuller's creation believes in the intelligence of its viewers, never holding back the details of a damaged mind. Lecter's psychology is the most intriguing, often kept locked tight, but Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is the key to unraveling pieces of him. That requires an...

Happy campers? More like dying campers.

Just in time for Halloween, Peacock has announced that it has gone straight to series on Crystal Lake, a prequel drama based on the hit horror movie franchise, Friday the 13th.

Bryan Fuller, the prolific television creator behind such shows as American Gods and Star Trek: Discovery, will write, showrun and executive produce the series, which will be produced by A24, the studio known for buzzy movies such as Everything Everywhere All at Once and this year’s horror one-two punch, X and Pearl.

Friday the 13th is the horror franchise that launched in 1980 and gave the world Jason Voorhees, the hockey-masked slasher who mostly kills in and around the verdant and idyllic grounds of Camp Crystal Lake (except for the rare jaunt to New York or outer space).
