Hell on Wheels, Season 4, Episode 12, “Thirteen Steps”
Written by Thomas Brady
Directed by Roxann Dawson
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on AMC
“I murdered that man for no other reason than to end the life of the man who took my son’s”
Anson Mount said in a recent interview that he sees Cullen Bohannon’s story ending with either him losing his soul and winning the world or vice versa. Considering the journey viewers have been on with him for the past four seasons with him, either option seems possible. The show has seen him seek revenge, go on the run, kill because he was trapped, fall in love, lose love, and become a father. We’ve also seen just how ruthless he can be when the situation calls for it. In many ways the railroad has turned him into a completely different person but really that’s what...

Spoiler alert: The Nov. 15 episode of AMC's Hell on Wheels, "Thirteen Steps," found preacher Ruth (Kasha Kropinski) determined to see herself hanged for murdering Sidney Snow, the man who'd killed her son, Ezra, despite the best efforts of Cullen (Anson Mount) to get her to accept a pardon. The resulting jail conversations between the two—beautifully written, lit, staged, and acted—are some of the best scenes of the series. Kropinski spoke to EW about Ruth's fate and relationship with Cullen, and what it's like to film a scene standing atop a trap door.

Regardless of how closely they've followed the far-reaching career of Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, genre fans are still very likely familiar with his musical output, as tracks from most of his musical projects have made their way into multiple horror, dark fantasy and science fiction films over the past couple of decades. Tracks from the dark-rock supergroup A Perfect Circle, which Keenan co-founded in 1999 with guitarist Billy Howerdel, have found their way into big-budget films like Underworld (“Judith”), Constantine (“Passive”) and Resident Evil: Afterlife (“The Outsider”), and for good reason: their songs possess a haunted, tormented but strangely seductive vibe that lingers in the memory and instills their scenes with an ominously hypnotic quality. While they've undergone personnel changes and a lengthy hiatus due to Keenan and Howerdel's focus on other projects (including Keenan's quirky electro-rock group Puscifer and Howerdel's gothic team Ashes Divide), A Perfect Circle finally began...

Cliff Richard and the Shadows were Pathé's perfect poster boys for pop when it decided to boost its coverage in the early 60s
In the early 60s, Pathé ramped up its pop coverage. Once the Age of the Teenager had been established, youth became worthy of coverage and even traditional news sources followed suit. As we've seen, Pathé had some youth culture reportage during the second half of the 50s but from 1961 on, the trickle turned to a flood. And who better to represent this shift than the biggest homegrown star of the period?
Cliff Richard and the Shadows ruled British pop from spring 1959 to spring 1963. During that period they had, separately and together, 27 top 10 singles – including 12 No 1s. There were also two massively successful films, The Young Ones and Summer Holiday, with their associated soundtracks: in both cases the lead-off singles and the albums went to No 1.

We all get a little lost sometimes. Even the creatures out there who haunt the shadows of the night. Imagine the pressures associated with executing the perfect kill or shaking that ever so troublesome angry mob off your tail. Thankfully there are programs out there to help keep our monsters sane. Sort of.
