Illegal streetracing film produced the only way it could be made - illegally?
SONNYK_USA6 April 2004
I don't know whether it would be more interesting to talk about how this movie was made than the actual movie itself, so I'll talk about BOTH.

Shot almost entirely at night with mini-cams suction-cupped to the sides of high-performance cars, the nocturnal lifestyle of highway streetracing gets its most accurate portrayal ever! This is one of the few racing movies you'll ever see that shows a speedometer cracking 140 mph and the car is actually going that fast (with a teenage driver no less).

No stunt people were used to create the numerous races, fights, and eventual car wreck that occurs. Amazingly, no one was hurt during the filming though some of the drivers were ticketed by the California Highway Patrol, and you get to see the 'CHIPS' captured on camera, too (more illegal surveillance for the audience to enjoy).

Worth watching just for the bright, colorful, visual imagery produced by experimental cinematography utilizing modified camera shutter speeds as well as the bravery of the filmmakers themselves for sticking with this project for three years, amassing over 250 hours of footage which is distilled down to about an hour and a half.

This movie was trash
Sportsboy41629 June 2006
This movie is complete trash. The film is way to grainy and there are so many effects going on you cant even tell what is happening in the shot. There is never a single clear shot of any of the cars while they are driving (which is like 5 min of the movie). There is WAY to many close ups and extreme close ups that are just frustrating. It looks like a project for a film school that was made while high. The story is extremely weak, and there is hardly enough street racing in it to even call it a racing movie. The cars are what drew me in, I'm a sucker for tuners, but they played no key role in the film and were not even that cool. IT IS A CHEAP LOVE STORY!!!!!

This film is total garbage.
clericx13 September 2006
This film was a real waste of time, do yourselves a favor and don't watch this!

It has no plot whatsoever, its a movie about NOTHING.

And the "experimental cinematography" is really REALLY bad, it looks like they gave a bunch of apes a few cheap webcams and trained them to film the "actors"...

Even the racing sucked, the picture was so grainy and bad-quality looking i couldn't even enjoy the race scenes ... not that there was anything there to enjoy, really ...

Bottom line - a total waste of time, and a fine example of "how to NOT make a movie".

This is simply the worst.

This film is a cantankerous piece of crap. It deserves to rest for all eternity in the bowels of hell. A day after seeing this film I heard someone say that it had great visuals for a low budget film. Know what else has great visuals for a low budget film? Two girls one cup. Which is an excellent thing to watch as a companion piece if you want to understand the film on a thematic level more clearly. It's really nothing more than a bunch of complete wastes of life vomiting fecal matter dialog into each others faces and then engaging in "fights' that resemble two women on Maury who just figured out their trailer trash boyfriend is cheating on both of them with a midget. Except less entertaining. But I forgave that because deep down this movie is about cars, not emotion. Cars that go fast. Nothing else. Right? At least that's what I kept telling myself so I would refrain from jabbing myself in the eye with a fountain pen. The car scenes we're like watching a bunch of drunk ten year old's race their big wheels. My pulse literally slowed, and for a moment I may have slipped into cardiac arrest. Thankfully I was saved by the fact that the movie had ended. But to be perfectly honest, there are times when I sit up late at night thinking I wish I had died right then and there. That way I wouldn't have to live out the rest of my life knowing this abomination exists.

Excellent movie
testep026 August 2006
OK, I've read some pretty harsh comments on this movie. Now, let me state this: This is not a multi-million dollar movie. This movie was not shot using stunt drivers, stand-ins, and using special effects to create the illusion of speed. This movie was made using real street racers from California and their real cars. Nothing was built just for the film and none of the races were staged either.

That being said, I say this is a great movie because of all of the statements above. The warning on the front cover warns all viewers of the realism included. That should have been a waring to all who gave this movie a poor rating that, "Hey, this movie may not be Hollywood fake like the fast and the furious was." This movie was created by someone who wanted to depict what real street racing was all about. It follows the lives of street racers and is based more on "Documentary with a storyline". That is, it shows what really happens on a day-to-day basis in the lives of us underground racers.

Long review short: If you want a real story with real excitement, this is your movie. If you are a street racing fan and want to see how we live on a day by day basis then watch this film. If you are looking for cheesy Hollywood knock offs with million dollar camera effects and retarded stories about robbing trucks, look elsewhere.

Hail the spirit of car enthusiasts!
jkato042318 February 2006
The story, well, not good. But the cars!! I own a beefed up 99 mercury cougar too. My friend and I too are in a street racing team. I installed a supercharger on my cougar with a dragon z body kit and new aluminum wheels. My friend has a Corolla with 500 horses with his second turbo boost. Man, the spirit and the understanding of car lovers is great in this film. Enjoy the film's sound of exhausts, beefed cars, NOS carrying cars, the street racing spirit, and the driving techniques.

This movie is very understandable since the cars are street racers, not supercars. Teen age kids can work their ass off and actually assemble a kick ass car like the ones in the film. Well, some cars were kind of expensive, but like I said, my friend's car is a Corolla. My cougar was $5K used. Supercharger was $3K.

It is a must see for all car lovers, since there is a really awesome American car in the film too. As for me, I felt rivalry toward South California, since I too compete in street races.

So much better now!
richierich-49 September 2005
When they cut this film down to around 90 min. they struck gold. It was way too long before (I've seen both versions). If this ever gets released, it will now be a HUGE hit. The negative comments on here are all from the too long version, from what I've seen. Once people start seeing the cut down version, the sentiment will change. I've heard that Lion's Gate bought the rights. Hello??? Lion's Gate??? When is the shortened version going to be released??? I've already seen it, but I will pay the $7.50 to see it again, but on the big screen. Anyone have any updates about when this might be released? Is the Lion's Gate thing just a rumor? Enquiring minds want to know...

the real life
doronm7 September 2003
What is amazing about this movie is the real action that I have not seen before in any action / racing scenes with no stuntmen. Unique filming ideas and real life actors make it a very realistic experience. The `Romeo and Juliet' story repeats itself in many movies, including this one. Noza is torn between old and new love, even in the inevitable end.

Good cheap film
bunzthompson25 October 2022
I heard an read harsh comments about this movie, so i watched it and when I found out how it was made I was extremely impressed loved it better than most high budget movies especially on a 750k budget back before 4k vision wasn't heard of, most of these harsh comments are from people who are used to high budget Hollywood films and not knowing the background of the movie and don't forget this movie was made in the late 99s early 2000 and used actual racing footage no stunt men no million dollar producer or actors this is howstreet racing was and still is to this day just catching up with the bros racing and cruising Nice job on a good movie.
