Lorenzo di Bonaventura to produce with Jiaflix, China’s 1905.
Us and China-based Jiaflix Pictures is teaming with its Chinese partner 1905 Pictures and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to produce $100m futuristic action thriller Speedhunters (working title).
Rob Cohen [pictured] is directing from a script by Josh Parkinson (Free Country). The film is scheduled to start shooting in Shanghai, Studio Babelsberg in Germany and other international locations in July 2017 for release in summer 2018.
Set in the near future, the film follows a team of racers and their crew who get drawn into the intrigue surrounding a revolutionary technology that threatens to change the world.
“Speedhunters has all the tenets of a global franchise with its action sequences, visual effects, relatable characters and a storyline that takes ordinary people through a journey of extraordinary circumstances,” said Di Bonaventura.

It is something we have all wanted to see since 80's cartoons started getting turned into films. Duke driving Optimus Prime. And we almost got it.
We have had 4 Transformers movies thus far, with a 5th on it's way. It is safe to say the films have been met with mixed reactions. 2 outings for Joes in G.I. Joe. Which is safe to say was met with a lot of negative reactions. I for one was a fan of the first film. And parts of Retailiation. But something I have always wanted to see is the crossover between the two franchises. And according to xXx: The Return of Xander Cage director D.J. Caruso we almost got it.
D.J. Caruso (Distubia, Eagle Eye) had entered negotions to direct a third installment into the G.I. Joe Franchise. While the film has been locked in developmental hell, Caruso took on the director role for...

From Super Mario Bros in the 90s and on to the recent Assassin’s Creed, it’s fair to say that movies adapted from videogames seldom fare well. But there’s one movie, now sadly lost to history, that might just have bucked that trend: Neill Blomkamp’s Halo.

Hasbro and Mattel, widely considered to be the two juggernauts of the American toy industry all throughout the ’80s and ’90s, will underpin the new limited series that’s just set up shop at Amazon Studios.
Hailing from Pixels star Josh Gad, Josh Schwartz and director Seth Gordon, it’s aptly called Toy Wars, and is to be based on the non-fiction novel penned by G. Wayne Miller, Toy Wars: The Epic Struggle Between G.I. Joe, Barbie, and the Companies that Make Them.
As the title suggests, Amazon’s new property will chronicle the real-life tussle between the two industry giants, after Miller – a journalist and writer – was given unprecedented access into My Little Pony conglomerate Hasbro, before shedding light on the company’s mantra as it sought to fend off heated competition from Mattel. Deadline reveals that Alan Hassenfeld, a free spirit who would go on to become the chief executive officer at Hasbro,...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 08-03-2016
When I first started writing reviews for Lrm I stated I would stick with all the DC Rebirth Issues until at least issue 6 before considering any to drop. So far, I’ve pleasantly been surprised by my complete interest in All the Rebirth Titles thus far! We are approaching issue 4 for most of the newly revamped series, with still many more trickling in that show promise. As the first “wave” of books get closer to issue 6, I’ll do a quick rundown on those series and try to help new readers choose which books might be best for them. Until then, be sure to sound off in the comments on how you’re liking (or disliking) the DC Rebirth!

Dwayne Johnson has three films coming in 2017. And now, he's got three films coming in 2018 too...
Got a movie you’re trying to make? Why not put Dwayne Johnson in it? It’s what everyone else seems to be doing, and it’s bound to earn you a fervent flurry of publicity. The man who it may not be acceptable to call ‘The Rock’ anymore has a whopping 19 films on his slate at the moment (it's gone down, given that Moana is now in cinemas), though, so he may struggle to fit you in. But is there a movie star who's working harder right now? Just check this lot out...

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have some big movie plans brewing for several classic toys and cartoons that many of us grew up with. They have officially teamed up to create a shared cinematic universe that will include several different properties that include G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K., and Rom.
I haven't been happy with anything that Paramount has done so far with these kinds of films. G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have all turned out to be disappointments. It's hard to believe that they will turn that around and actually give us some quality movies based on these awesome properties.
According to THR, Hasbro head of film development Josh Feldman is working with Paramount to shape the new universe that will include these five properties. The studio will be putting together a writing team, much like the one that was set up for the...

Hasbro and Paramount Pictures have announced that the G.I. Joe film franchise will become part of a larger universe that includes other properties such as Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and Rom.
Just as they are doing with the Transformers films, Hasbro/Paramount will hire a writing team to develop films in this new movie universe.
From Brad Grey, Paramount chairman and CEO:
"Paramount and Hasbro have had a longstanding relationship and we're proud of the success we've enjoyed on the 'Transformers' and 'G.I. Joe,' franchises. We're excited to grow our agreement and make even more movies based upon these popular and powerful Hasbro characters and their worlds."

Fox's Fantastic Four got a Thing-like pummeling at the box office with a $26.2M first outing, allowing Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation to take #1 for the second weekend in a row with $29.4M. Fantastic's $6,558 take per screen underwhelmed across the board and it doesn't look like the Josh Trank-directed film has any hopes of turning things around. The film earned a dismal "C-" Cinemascore, a very low grade for what is supposed to be a summer blockbuster. Pixels, for heaven's sake, earned a "B." The top 12, with $121.7M, was 30.1% lower than last year in this frame ($174.2) when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles surprised with a $65.6M opening weekend and Guardians of the Galaxy had the best 2nd weekend of the summer of 2014, hauling in $42.1M. They contributed to a first ever $1B August, something extremely unlikely to be repeated this year. As for Fantastic Four one has to go back...

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s inherent likeability, barrelled biceps and willingness to fight any cinematic opponent has transformed the one-time wrestler into a studio’s dream. His presence in several waning franchises has earned him several tags attesting to his ability to pep up the most exhausted of series. From Fast & Furious to G.I. Joe, the mere sight of Johnson has bolstered box office takings every single time. Based on a recent interview with director Brad Peyton, Johnson’s similar effect on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island looks set to continue in its follow-up sequels, Journey 3 and 4.
Taking some time out at this weekend’s Wonder-Con, the director chatted with the folks over at Collider to offer an update on those two future installments. While Warner Bros. secured Johnson last year, a very smart move indeed, since that time there has been a dearth of new information on the family-oriented franchise until now.

Jonathan Liebesman directed the last film, which I thought was absolutely awful in almost every way. I did not like that movie at all, and I’m a huge fan of the Ninja Turtles! It made $464 million at the box office worldwide, though, so it has an audience that buys in to the terribleness.
Michael Bay will be back as a producer on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 along with his Platinum Dune partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

There is nothing complicated about Josh Waller's "Raze." It's a straight up genre flick, but served with a twist, putting women in the ass-kicking lead roles in the space that's usually reserved for men. And that gives the film a certain flavor you might want to check out as it heads to home video. Starring Zoe Bell ("Death Proof," "Planet Terror") and Rachel Nichols ("Conan The Barbarian," "G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra"), the story centers on Jamie, who awakens to find herself in a concrete bunker where she meets fellow abductee Sabrina. The women soon discover that they are in a modern-day coliseum where they and 48 other women have been selected to fight to the death, and only one can survive. It's harrowing stuff and it won't be easy to escape, and as you'll see in this exclusive deleted scene, trying to earn sympathy will only...

Channing Tatum has held talks over playing Gambit in an X-Men movie.
The G.I. Joe and Magic Mike actor confirmed the news in an interview with MTV, claiming that he has already met with series producer Lauren Shuler Donner about the part.
The news comes after Tatum’s revelation last September that he was interested in playing Gambit in a future X-Men movie. Whether or not those comments back then came after he had already met with Donner or his revelation spurned interest in Fox casting the actor for a future movie, it’s unclear.
What we can almost say for certainty is that Tatum’s Gambit won’t be appearing in the new movie X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which opens next month. That film already has mutant character overload as it attempts to bridge two timelines together and it seems unlikely the movie could have kept a cameo...

Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman promises the legal drama’s final season, “is going to be a very satisfying season where all the ends are tied up.”
Dan Bucatinsky says to The Wrap that creatively it was necessary for Scandal to kill a major character, “The threat of death on a show like this, if it doesn’t pay off occasionally, the audience begins to scream bulls–t.” He’s right, you can’t have big cliffhangers if everyone expects all the major characters to survive. (See: massacre, Moldavian.)
First the ABC Family pilot Alice in Arabia raised eyebrows due to a description that seemed potentially offensive. Then, a review of the pilot script by Buzzfeed that called it “dotted with cultural inaccuracies and stereotypes.” Amid all that controversy, ABC Family has scrapped the pilot. Don’t worry, we’ll probably get to have the same debate when FX’s Tryant debuts.

Things in the film industry must be in an interesting place when someone in power says, "A 'Gilligan's Island' movie starring the guy from '1600 Penn'? Sold." That's what happening, though. Josh Gad has been tapped to co-write and star in a movie adaptation of the 1960s sitcom.
Warner Bros. is behind the feature film, which will be a vehicle to push Gad to the forefront as a star. He will co-write the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, according to Deadline. There's no word on what role Gad will play just yet, but the best bets are Gilligan or the Skipper.
"Gilligan's Island" is far from the first TV property to be turned into a movie, and things don't always end pretty. Sometimes a film can capture the spirit of the show, but the odds are normally against it.

As Quentin Tarantino has proven, exploitation or genre tropes are ripe for reworking into something new, fresh and subversive. And that's just what director Josh C. Waller has aimed to do with "Raze," which takes the women-in-prison backdrop that provided so much material for sleazy '70s flicks and turns it into something very, very bloody. The picture stars stuntwoman-turned-actress Zoe Bell ("Death Proof," "Planet Terror") and Rachel Nichols ("Conan The Barbarian," "G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra") and tells the story of Sabrina, who is mysteriously abducted and forced to battle with other innocents for the amusement of unseen spectators, with only one allowed to come out on top. The result? Well, as the tagline on this exclusive poster cheekily teases: No Man Could Survive This. It's bruising, harrowing, ass-kicking stuff with a performance from Bell that we said is "emotionally vulnerable but mean as hell." "Raze...

IFC Midnight has released the first full trailer for Josh Waller’s chicks in prison movie “Raze”, starring former stuntwoman turned actor Zoe Bell and “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra’s” Rachel Nichols. Plus, lots of other people. The takeaway here? If you like prison movies, and tournament fighting flicks, then this is probably for you since it combines to two genre. Let the chick fights begin! Stuntwoman-turned-action-star Zoe Bell (Death Proof) headlines this sly subversion of the women-in-prison genre. When Sabrina is mysteriously abducted, she finds herself in an underground lair, forced to do battle with other innocents for the amusement of unseen spectators. Each of these reluctant warriors has something to lose, but only one will remain when the game is done. Violent and relentless, Raze takes its video game aesthetic to the deepest and darkest places, rarely surfacing for air. Starring Zoë Bell, Rachel Nichols, Tracie Thoms,...

The first movie was put in the hands of Four Brothers screenwriters David Elliot and Paul Lovett and Pirates of the Caribbean's Stuart Beattie. The scripted by Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. And today we learn that the third movie in the growing G.I. Joe franchise has found a writer of its very own. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Daugherty - the writer best known for crafting the screenplay for Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman - has been hired to script the next installment of the action movie series, which is already set to be directed by G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon Chu. While Snow White and the Huntsman was a Universal Pictures production, this will be the second time that Daugherty has been hired for a Paramount project. Along with Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, the screenwriter is credited on the upcoming ...

Has there ever been a year where so many big blockbusters were confirmed so far in advance? Simon checks out the 2015 battleground...
In truth, there have been several years in blockbuster movie history where it's looked, from the outset, that there are simply too many films for all of them to comfortably fit. As recently as 2011, for instance, the headline battle between The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers left many other very expensive films in their wake.
But 2015 already feels different. Appreciating that you can pick any recent year and find a schedule packed to the gills with costly movies, the difference here is how sizeable many of the films are. Not just in cost, but in stature. Has there ever been a summer, for instance, where Star Wars, Terminator, Independence Day, Fantastic Four, The Avengers and Pirates Of The Caribbean went head...

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

For two years, we’ve been waiting for this announcement, and now Paramount have officially confirmed that the Terminator reboot is slated for release in two summers’ time.
Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Pictures bought the rights to the franchise back in 2011, and things haven’t seemed to make much progress since then. But now Ellison has turned to her brother, David Ellison, and his Skydance Pictures, and together with their deal at Paramount, the Terminator reboot is moving forward nicely.
Screenwriters Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) have been working together on the script for months, and the plan is apparently to make at least two movies before North American rights revert back to original creator James Cameron.
The press release below says that Terminator will be the first film in a new standalone trilogy, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to reprise his role. Recent...

Badass stunt woman/actress Zoe Bell and G.I. Joe girl Rachel Nichols go bare-knuckled in this red band trailer for Josh C. Waller’s Raze. The film premieres at Tribeca Film Festival on April 21. Watch the desperate, bloody action.
Synopsis from Tribeca:
Stuntwoman Zoe Bell (Death Proof) headlines this sly subversion of the women-in-prison genre. After Sabrina (Bell) is abducted, she finds herself in an underground lair, forced to do battle with other innocent women for the amusement of unseen spectators. Each of these reluctant warriors has something to lose, but only one will remain when the game is done. Violent and relentless, Raze takes its video game aesthetic to the deepest and darkest places, rarely surfacing for air.
Raze [red band trailer]
The film sounds interesting, but the trailer feels a bit like a Criminal Minds episode. What do you think?...

The latest movie adaptation of a Meyer novel will likely not lead to a movie franchise Directed and adapted by Andrew Niccol, Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi book The Host debuted at no. 6 on the Us / Canada box-office chart this Easter weekend, earning an anemic $10.6 million at 3,202 North American venues, as per actuals found on the web site Box Office Mojo. Many pundits had been predicting The Host to debut in the mid-to-high teens. What that means (and considering the film's budget; see below), the romantic sci-fier featuring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel is this year's most recent big box-office disappointment. (Pictured above: Abel as one of the men in Ronan's in The Host) It may seem mean-spirited to compare The Host to either Twilight or The Hunger Games; but then again, both of those movies were also adaptations of popular novels geared to young adults, and featured a...

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick
Directed by Jon M. Chu
USA, 2013
The latest blockbuster sequel to a mildly profitable first film that doesn’t actually have an enthusiastic fan base, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is admittedly not on the same level of terrible as its Stephen Sommers-directed predecessor. It is still an awful film, but in a different way. Some may have enjoyed elements of 2009’s The Rise of Cobra for an apparent sense of knowing silliness and a relatively light tone, but Retaliation, while still possessing things like RZA playing a blind ninja master, permeates a joyless sense of self-seriousness.
Unlike its predecessor, Retaliation attempts to firmly place itself in some semblance of our contemporary world, with Bono and Jay-z references and tired jokes about Miley Cyrus and Ryan Seacrest. Beyond that, there are nods towards conflict in Pakistan, with one character calling the...

Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt joining the Justice League? That's the word according to one rumor, though Jgl's reps have denied the report. Specifically, we keep coming back to one question: is this a good idea, or a bad idea?
To get to the bottom of whether or not Jgl and "Justice League" are a good fit, we asked our friends from around the web for their take.

Adrianne Palicki is easily recognizable as Tyra Collette from the popular television show "Friday Night Lights," which ended its five-year run in 2011. Around the same time, the 29-year-old actress set the comic book community abuzz after nabbing the coveted lead in super-producer David E. Kelly's pilot for "Wonder Woman." Unfortunately, the show didn't get picked up, but Palicki had no problems making the jump to big-screen action hero, even scoring the role of Lady Jaye in the upcoming "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
In her first film since the end of "Fnl," the tall (she's 5-foot-11) hottie battles an enemy takeover in "Red Dawn," which hits theaters on Nov. 21. A tune-up on the 1984 film, the reboot also stars Chris Hemsorth, Josh Peck and Josh Hutcherson, swaps Russians for North Koreans, and proves cell phones can be valuable tools in warfare.

It's taken some time — years, actually — but audiences finally have their first look at the remake of Red Dawn with Yahoo's release of the first trailer.
A victim of studio MGM's financial meltdown, Red Dawn was actually shot back in 2009, back before Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson became the respective stars of Thor and The Hunger Games. The remake is still about a group of young kids coming together to protect their town from a foreign invasion, this time from North Korea (after original aggressor China was removed in post-production). The trailer shows that the remake retains much of the explosiveness of the original (both literally and figuratively), with Hemsworth rallying a band of teenagers including Hutcherson, Connor Cruise (Seven Pounds), Adrienne Palicki (the upcoming G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation), Josh Peck (Atm) and even Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), who explained in 2010 that he plays "the old man" in the movie.

Back in September of 2009, the remake of "Red Dawn" started production in Michigan under the direction of first-time helmer Dan Bradley, who had worked as a stunt coordinator and second unit director on three "Bourne" movies, including the upcoming "Bourne Legacy."
The cast was filled with relative unknowns, including Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the lead, alongside Josh Hutcherson, the most well known of the cast having just appeared in "Journey to the Center of Earth" following performances in "Zathura" and "Rv." Joe 2 director Jon M Chu looks to have been handed the hopes and dreams and memories of an entire generation of kids and he holds them in the palm of his hand as he attempts to breath new life into the He-Man mythos. For his sake I hope he remembers that those kids have now grown up and some of them will be every bit as big and strong as He-Man.
But with this news comes many pressing questions that need to be answered. What will the story be? Will this be as bad as the first effort in the mid 80s? Will Prince Adam have a better disguise than he did when we were kids?...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. How do you put that much action down on...

Paramount Pictures has announced that production on Michael Bay’s “Ninja Turtles” has been delayed and its release date bumped from Christmas 2013 to May 16, 2014. The budget for the film will also be reigned in a bit. This makes it one of three big budget films from Paramount currently suffering from production delays, the others being “G.I. Joe Retaliation” and “World War Z”.
The film had already garnered much discord from longtime fans of the Tmnt franchise when, back in March, it was announced that Michael Bay would be producing the reboot through his company Platinum Dunes. He also promised a fresh and edgy take on the heroes in the half-shell—by giving the turtle more “alien” origins.
The film would feature mo-capped CGI turtles and is directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans), with Bay producing, and screenplay by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol).

Months after the controversy that surrounded the announcement of Michael Bay’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it looks like the film will be put on a long hiatus.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, simply titled Ninja Turtles, is being pushed from December 2013 to May 2014. A source close to the production of the film says the script is the problem. The preproduction staff has also been laid off and the work delay is said to be “indefinite.” A representative from Paramount would not leave a comment.
This isn’t the first time this year that Paramount Pictures has delayed a film’s release date because of its script. G.I. Joe: Retaliation and World War Z were both delayed from being released this year and are now scheduled for 2013.
