Sex & Nudity

  • At a party if you pause the movie at the right spot you can see a blurred naked woman in the background of a scene. She is only noticed if paused at the exact spot.
  • A wife appears in front of her husband wearing a bathrobe. She takes it off revealing a sexy outfit underneath. He kisses her neck and the scene abruptly ends.
  • A man and woman passionately kiss before the scene ends. (Sex is implied.)
  • Two gay men kiss. This is shown from a distance and quite hard to see.
  • Prostitutes are shown outside of a nightclub. Partial rear nudity is shown.
  • A man is describing a group of men to another man. The scene cuts to a party and two women are seen topless, breasts exposed, briefly. Scene doesn't last longer than a second.
  • About an hour into the movie, after the punisher sets up Quentin Glass, a woman is seen briefly with Travolta's son in a bikini.
  • A man tells another man he would have friends in prison kill him in a "deeply pornographic" manner. (Implied that the man would be raped to death)

Violence & Gore

  • A man is crushed by a falling bookshelf and pinned down right before the building explodes. (Implied death.)
  • Several men are shot with arrows, one man is shot in the chest with an impaled arrow and another man gets impaled through the side of the neck and he falls.
  • A man fires a projectile knife blade at another man holding a gun. We briefly see the impact through the man's neck with a stream of blood.
  • Frank takes the large blade from a paper cutter (the size of a machete) and then slams it down onto and into a goon's head, killing him.
  • There is a prolonged sequence where two men fight. Lots of punching and throwing. Both are stabbed at least once and one of them is splashed in the face with a pot of boiling water. He is then tackled by the other man down a staircase.
  • A man fires his shotgun at The Punisher a few times but The Punisher was wearing Kevlar armor. The man is punched with a shotgun and held to a wall. He gets his arm twisted and stabbed through the hand to his thigh and then up the chin. Some blood is seen around and on the knife.
  • Various goons kick one man who's lying on the floor, followed by the leader grabbing him by the hair on the back of his head and ready to kill him as a punishment.
  • A crime boss suddenly shoots one of his own men in the leg, tries getting his way out by speaking and then shoots the man in shoulder and then kills him with a third shot (no blood) and drops the gun on him.
  • A man fires his shotgun into the goon's truck several times (causing it to crash), but he's shot and wounded several times. A young man then kicks him in the face and then punches him causing his eye to be swollen shut. Another kick to the back follows and the man is then kicked back through a railing that breaks. He's shot in the chest and the goons then pour gasoline all over the dock and ignite it. The wounded man tries to get out of the way, but the resultant explosion knocks him through the air and into the water.
  • We see that The Punisher has a man tied upside down from the ceiling and he grabs him by his hair. He then lights a blow torch and talks about what it will do to the guy's skin upon touching it (saying it will eventually feel cold). He then sears a steak that the man can't see and then places a popsicle on the man's bare back to make him think his flesh is being torched (and to make him talk).
  • One man grabs a goon and slams him into a wall and then grabs another whose head he slams into a railing, leaving both men unconscious and walks.

  • A man confronts one of his men whom he believes has betrayed him with his wife. He then has that man by the neck and slices his arm with a switchblade. He then punches and stabs that man (we don't see the latter impact) and then repeatedly stabs him in the chest, killing him (no blood and we hear more of the sound than actually see the impact).
  • A crime boss purposefully breaks his wife's things when he thinks she's betrayed him. He then backhands her to the floor and then grabs her (Domestic abuse).

  • Two men are shot dead by two handguns on either side of a man's hand. They both fall on glass sculptures and onto the ground (No blood but they are both dead).

  • A shot down corpse is seen in the autopsy room. The father of the corpse pets his head.
  • A man is shot in the leg and shoulder with blood spurting from the impact. A man who was shot in the chest, and shoulder is seen in the water with blood soaking on the water. He falls down in shock until a man finds him.

  • A woman and son are run over by murderous hitmen's jeep. The dad rushes to save them but it is too late. He picks up their corpses at the boardwalk (No blood)
  • Rated R for strong brutal violence.
  • Doesn't need an age rating. Children are capable of separating film from reality.
  • At the end of the movie there is a shootout between the Punisher and several men. The gunshots are very loud and some blood is sometimes shown spurting out of characters chests. (The wounds are not visible but blood squirts and splats on the walls)
  • A man and another young man try to buy illegal guns from Frank who's working undercover. When the police and FBI arrive, a brief gun battle breaks out with the other and the young man being shot. Yet, where the latter is dead, we later see that the man was undercover.

When they won't answer, the man takes a pair of pliers, talks about one's many facial piercings, and then takes the pliers to his eyebrow ring. We then see the motion but not the actual tearing out of that ring. He then does the same to the ring in his nostril.

Profanity

  • Misuses of "Christ" and "Jesus."
  • There is 12 "f" words (2 used sexually as is the term "do it"), 8 "s" words, 1 slang term using male genitals ("pr*ck"), 3 hells, 2 asses, 2 S.O.B.s (and another incomplete one), 1 damn and 2 uses each of "G-damn," "God," "Jesus" and "Oh my God."
  • A song in the closing credits sounded like it had at least 1 use of the "f" word in it, while other lyrics couldn't be understood (thus the opportunity of them possibly containing other potentially objectionable material).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Frank drinks straight from the bottle and then has more.
  • There's talk of a hash bar in Amsterdam.
  • Some drinking and casual smoking nothing off note.
  • Characters are seen smoking in a nightclub.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The brutal and lengthy fight between Castle and the Russian is intense.
  • The acting is very bad which makes the film feel more like a comedy. It would've had a severe for frightening if there were good acting.
  • Some scenes of fighting can disturb some
  • The popsicle torture can shock some but it is quite comical
  • The extreme uses of violence can disturb some
  • Howard Saint is abusive towards his wife.
  • A mariachi type man enters a restaurant carrying what appears to be a guitar case and a man slowly reaches for his gun (but it does turn out to be a guitar in the case).
  • A man puts a gun to his chin to commit suicide, but thoughts and images of his wife stop him.
  • More for older teens/adults.
  • The film has a pretty chill R rating little no blood whatsoever
  • A young man gets tortured by a sadistic man by getting his piercings removed on his face. This scene could be very intense but it is offscreen with the man screaming in pain. (The impact is only seen)

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Frank shoots a villain and then ties him to a car that he puts into gear. That car then drives into others that then explode and catch the villain on fire.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The villain's wife is hit by a train. The scene cuts right before the impact.
  • The extended cut features a subplot where it is revealed that Castle's friend betrayed him to the Saints in exchange for forgiving gambling debts. Castle confronts the friend and, in a very dark scene, convinces him to commit suicide.
  • There is a scene where Frank prepares to torture a man hanging upside down for information by blow torching his back, however, he really torches a steak and sticks his popsicle to his back. The man doesn't know this until after he gives Frank the information he wanted. This might be intense, but it's meant to be funny.
