“I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory
When’s it going to get me?
In my sleep? Seven feet ahead of me?
If I see it comin’, do I run or do I let it be?”
That particular stanza is from ‘My Shot,’ one of the first songs heard in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Hamilton. While it isn’t very “goth,” it feels like it could apply with this None More Goth issue of The Wicked + The Divine as the focus shifts to The Morrigan for issue 16.

Damon drives an amnesiac Stefan through the dark Virginia night in a stolen car. Stefan reads his old journals, hoping that it will awaken his memories, obliterated when Tessa used him as a conduit to burn out Silas’s mind control abilities. It’s not working. Although Stefan remembers things like what day it is and the like he cannot recall being the “Ripper of Monterey”.
He also doesn’t remember being satisfied with drinking his blood from bags, which Damon explains is part and parcel of the whole Ripper thing. An annoyed Stefan makes to throw the empty bag out the car window but Damon gives a hoot and won’t let him pollute. Stefan concludes from this that he’s the “fun brother” and Damon is the “safe brother”. Damon puts that one right to bed, punching the accelerator and pulling the parking brake,...

Los Angeles hosts annual showcase featuring extensive array of work from contemporary and veteran film-makers
The annual celebration of Iranian cinema run by the University of California, Los Angeles, is a vital occasion for two dynamic and overlapping constituencies: cinephiles and Iranians in Los Angeles. The festival's screenings routinely draw large audiences, eager to see films from a nation distinguished by its rich and sustained contribution to world cinema. This year's programme underscored the depth and diversity of cinematic voices in Iranian life.
In recent years, the archive has expanded the scope to include older films, working with Iran's national film archive and exiled filmmakers such as Parviz Sayyad to present seminal works such as The Lor Girl (Dokhtar-e Lor; 1933), directed by Ardeshir Irani; Masoud Kimiai's Caesar (Qaisar; 1969); and Sayyad's own Dead End (Bon Bast; 1977). This year, the festival began with a screening of Bahram Beyzaie's first feature film,...

Poetry is an art that has flowed like a river through time. You can dam a river, you can divert a river but over time the river will wear down, circumvent or displace any obstacle.
You might have thought that football trumped poetry at American Universities, particularly at a football powerhouse like Penn State. But score a big win for the poets, as former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been replaced on a Penn State mural by, of all thing, a poet! Specifically, by Dora McQuaid, who is known for activist poetry relating to sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Now why would Penn State choose someone like that?
Here is one of Dora McQuaid's poems, which is posted on her website, and excerpted from her chapbook the scorched earth.

The trusty website UrbanDictionary.com has several definitions for the term lesbro:
1. A man who has more friendships with lesbians than other women or men.
2. The male equivalent of a fag hag.
3. A heterosexual man who is either one or both of the following: a brother to one or more lesbian sisters, or, friends with a disproportionate amount of homosexual women. "Wow, your brother really only hangs out with gay girls, doesn't he! And you're a big gay yourself, sister! What a lesbro you've got there!"
To us, a lesbro is a little bit of all, but at his core, a lesbro is a male friend to at least one, but possibly several, lesbians. This column shares a little bit about some famous lesbros that we love.
This week: Michael Cooney.

Update (August 23, 2011): We have learned that composer Alexandre Desplat has written a theme for My Week with Marilyn. The piece called Marilyn’s Theme will be adapted by Conrad Pope into his score. Pope has been an orchestrator on a number of movies scored by Desplat in the past couple of years. Most recently, he worked with the composer on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Conrad Pope is currently scoring the upcoming drama My Week with Marilyn. The movie directed by Simon Curtis stars Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson, Julia Ormond, Derek Jacobi and Dougray Scott. The film chronicles a week in the life of Monroe during the production of Laurence Olivier’s film The Prince and the Showgirl. Screenwriter Adrian Hodges adapted the memoirs of Colin Clark, the assistant who worked with Monroe on the production of the picture.

I don't know about you but I've been getting increasingly nervous about the new incarnation of "Torchwood". First it's off BBC and onto Starz, with whom I have no relationship at all. Second it has only our beloved Captain Jack and our semi-beloved (I beloving her, but I believe some of you do not) Gwen left to run the shop and sweet, sweet Ianto is gone for good. Third, I am just terrified that the show will be "Americanized" and ruined forever. New cast members have been announced: Bill Pullman (The Killer Inside Me, Lost Highway), Mekhi Phifer ("Lie to Me, ER"), Arlene Tur (Eat, Pray, Love), Alexa Havins (When in Rome) but none of those names rouse much excitement or give me that feeling that something really great is going to come of their new characters - most of them are set to play CIA agents. CIA agents? What...

1 year ago I attended the best festival I have ever been to as a filmmaker. All the movies were free. The location was beautiful. The people were amazing. And apparently I inspired them to create an Independent Spirit Award just to give to me.
Well the Orlando Film Festival is back and it kicks off Wednesday November 3rd at the Plaza Cinema Café in Downtown Orlando. While I won.t be screening anything at the festival, I will still be on hand checking out some films and promoting my own. I will also be handing out the Independent Spirit Award, which has been named after me this year.
The festival runs from Wednesday November 3rd through Sunday November 7th. All the film screenings are free but you must get a ticket for each at the booth in front of the theater. The Plaza Cinema Café is located at 155 South Orange...

Grey’s Anatomy has made some controversial casting moves over the years, but we've yet to hear a negative word about the addition of Jessica Capshaw as Dr. Arizona Robbins.
The pediatric surgeon is a fan favorite, at least among TV Fanatic staff writers, and her unexpected romance with Sara Ramirez's Dr. Callie Torres has been a treat to watch.
Jessica recently spoke with Fancast about the intense sixth season finale, what's to come this fall, her favorite things about Arizona and her character's best quotes so far.
Excerpts below (follow the link here for the full interview):
On shooting the new season so far: "It’s looking great. I’ve had people coming up to me for three months now commenting on that season finale. [Laughs] People were a good kind of traumatized by it. It inspired and excited and revved them up!"

Who.d have thought the least of the Plastics would have ended up with one of the most impressive careers? Lindsay Lohan likely won.t be seeing a film set for quite a while and Lacey Chabert.s only theatrical release of the year is a film called In My Sleep, which I could go on and on about in a not so nice way. Of course there.s Rachel McAdams, who.s fairing quite well having had a nice handful of 2009 releases and Morning Glory on the way, but it.s Amanda Seyfried.s name that seems to be everywhere. So far this year she.s already starred in Chloe, Dear John and Letters to Juliet and is attached to the upcoming productions Albert Nobbs, Red Riding Hood, A Woman of No Importance and The Girl Who Conned the Ivy League. Clearly not everything will be done at once,...

Though toying with an intriguing idea, “In My Sleep” — written and directed by newcomer Allen Wolf — meanders across the screen in a dull fugue state.
Marcus (Philip Winchester) suffers from parasomnia, a disorder in which the afflicted engages in activities as though he or she is awake, but with no later memory of their actions. He sleepwalks through life meeting strange women for one-night-stands and frequently awakening naked in his car. After receiving a series of threatening phone calls from an angry forgotten lover, Marcus joins Sexaholics Anonymous in search of some control. While at a meeting, he befriends fellow addict Gwen (Abigail Spencer), a recently divorced doctor who works at a local hospital. One morning, Marcus finds himself in his bed covered in blood. Terrified, he finds out that Ann (Kelly Overton), wife of his best friend Justin (Tim Draxl) and one of Marcus's recent sleep-fueled conquests, was brutally murdered.

An Abercrombie and Fitch model wakes up alone in a cemetery without any memory of how he got there. Sadly, he wakes up in strange places a lot, thanks to a bad case of parasomnia which leads to his sleepwalking and doing other things he isn’t aware of. Could one of them be murder? It certainly might be when he finds that the wife of his Bff has been stabbed to death and he awoke covered in blood with a knife to go along with it. I do give writer/director Allen Wolf credit as he tries to make this feature a mystery along the lines of Hitchcock, but really, it falls much closer to an episode of Gossip Girl or Melrose Place. The actors are all pretty,...

With no significant new entries, holdover The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo led all limited releases for a third straight weekend. Oscar-winner The Secret in Their Eyes and documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop saw minimal second weekend declines, The Joneses and The Perfect Game plummeted, and Paper Man was paper thin in its debut. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ranked 16th on the overall weekend chart, grossing $621,749 on 181 theaters (up 29 from last weekend) for a 38-day total of $3.9 million. It was down 1.5 percent from last weekend, though, which was its first weekend-to-weekend decline, and its per site average of $3,345 was its lowest yet. The Secret in Their Eyes added 23 sites for a total of 33, and subsequently increased 115 percent over last weekend to $360,056. After two weekends, the Best Foreign Language Oscar winner from Argentina has grossed $592,864, and distributor Sony Pictures Classics will likely add more theaters in the coming weeks.

Title: In My Sleep Directed By: Allen Wolf Starring: Philip Winchester, Tim Draxl, Lacey Chabert, Abigail Spencer, Kelly Overton, Amy Aquino When I was a kid, I occasionally went to sleep on the lower section of my bunk bed, but woke up on the top. Yes, I was a sleepwalker. Sometimes I’d get a good giggle out of my nighttime expeditions, but climbing the ladder to the top bunk was a little on the risky side. It sounds crazy, but sleepwalking can be a very dangerous habit. This notion is more true than ever in In My Sleep, not because the main character would do just about anything from drive his car to [...]...

Meet new hottie obsession Philip Winchester, Enver-on-Enver action, Beastly isn't beastly, and Woody Harrelson is a Turkey.
Stick with me on this one: Enver Gjokaj, who was the best and hottest part of Dollhouse, is launching a new webseries called Previously on Point Dume. It’s being described as Twin Peaks meets Clue, and has some serious camp. Then there’s this little nugget:
Gjokaj plays the "Lothario landscapist," Ron, as well as Ron's nemesis/doppleganger, Bron. And indeed, he never wears a shirt, and the first segment includes full-on Enver-on-Enver action. "They're kind of like enemies-slash-weirdly attracted to each other, because thye're both complete egomaniacs," explains Gjokaj. "We've got some bizarre things planned."
CBS Films showed a few pieces at ShoWest, and everyone yawned. Then they showed the upcoming Beastly, with Alex Pettyfer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Vanessa Hudgens, and the crowd of seen-it-all executives went nuts. I do...

Sitting through a screener of the two-hour-long premiere of NBC’s Crusoe, I was left with many opposed questions, something a writer doesn’t want to have at the beginning of a season. The show which sees its TV debut on October 17th, promises adventure to the fans of the Daniel Dafoe classic, in truth, the series looks cheesy thanks largely to the chosen title character played by Philip Winchester. Now Winchester may be enjoying an upcoming fruitful film career with roles in “Solomon Kane” and “In My Sleep,” but this time around, he’s just not convincing as “Crusoe.” Blame it on the writing and you’d be mostly right. Constant flashbacks try to render a touching story of a shipwrecked man who craves to return home to his wife Susannah (Anna Walton) and child. He’s survived fires and plagues he tells viewers and flashbacks once again hit,...
