a very well-made update of a very well-made grindhouse classic
B-MovieDork7 September 2004
First, let me say that I really liked what Ted W. Crestview did with his re-invisionment of Nick Phillip's sexploitation classic. He took what he liked from the original and made his own whole separate story. Roxanna (Misty Mundae - Seduction Cinema's Mickey Mouse, if you will...)is stuck in a dead-end relationship with a loser druggie guy, who, bored with their sex life, makes Roxanna sleep with another woman while he watches. And to quote Misty in the movie: "You gave me a taste, baby...and what can I say? I liked it!" So that should give you some idea... Roxanna takes to women, has a hayday, and ticks off her now-jealous boyfriend. Uh-oh... that's never good. So surely enough, things start to go haywire... So if you like Sexploitation, Grindhouse, Sleaze, Misty Mundae, or any of the other Seduction Cinema mega-babes, then you should pick up this DVD. It also contains Nick Phillips' original classic, as well as the morbid short film "Despair", by Mark Baranowski.

Really Bad!!
Dave_douell14 December 2018
I guess the makers of this film thought they had a legitimate movie here and could minimize the skin shown and still have something watchable. Instead they made the softest softcore trash I've seen in a while. Sorry, I shamelessly admit I watch these films for one reason only. Why lie, right? Misty Mundae was very disappointing, definitely her worst film. Even for Misty fans like myself, it's a huge waste of time. Oh by the way, the original really isn't much better. Both can go to the trash.

Misty Mundae sizzles in this seamy soft-core sleaze short
Woodyanders4 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Jaded cokehead slut Roxanna (a perfectly snarky portrayal by the adorable Misty Mundae) becomes increasingly fed-up with her pathetic junkie loser boyfriend Todd (a solid performance by Josh Robinson). Roxanna's insatiable carnal cravings motivate her to get in on with not only the enticing Claire (slinky minx Katie Jordan), a predatory drug dealer (stone fox Dorian Cane), and a yummy blonde babe (the luscious Loree Renee), but also to even fantasize about doing just what you think with her wannabe helpful psychiatrist (the lovely Brenda Joyce). Naturally, Roxanna's raging libido and ever worsening cocaine habit cause things to spiral out of control with tragic results. Writer/director Ted W. Crestview paints a stark and gritty depiction of obsessive addiction; he relates the sordidly engrossing story in a tight 36 minute running time and effectively maintains a downbeat tone from start to finish. Moreover, the frequent female nudity and semi-pornographic simulated sex scenes both deliver the scorching hot goods. Johnny Crash's fairly rough, yet polished cinematography and the funky, jangly free-form score by Don Mike and the Gwens further enhance the overall scuzzy atmosphere. A pleasingly tawdry short feature.

Very Bad Remake

Roxanna (2002)

* 1/2 (out of 4)

Remake of the Nick Phillips film has Misty Mundae playing the role of Roxanna. When Roxanna's boyfriend asks her to have sex with a girl she goes along with it but soon all she has on her mind is women. This leads her down the dangerous path of picking up strange women and forgetting her boyfriend, which might not be a good idea. It's amazing but once again we have a remake where the original guy doesn't get any credit but he might be thankful for that as this film is pretty worthless. The movie runs a very short 36-minutes and that's a good thing as the movie seems too long even at that time. Mundae is a cute girl and I understand why she has a big cult following because she really does look like that girl next door. I'm still new to her career but so far the best thing I've seen from her is a movie she directed so perhaps that's the key to her making better films. The lesbian sex scenes here, all softcore, aren't erotic and the majority of the time they are rather bland and boring. The director really doesn't know how to build anything erotic and for the majority of the running time his so-called style is just obnoxious and boring.

For Seduction, see Misty, Misty Mundae that is!
jamesbourke5012 January 2003
My first introduction to the dizzy heights of Seduction Sinema's slate of Soft core cinematic spoofs was "Playmate of The Apes" With it's inspired cover artwork, before you set down to watch the movie, the cover more or less set the tone for the movie.

So here we are, and here i find what looks like Seduction Cinema Striving for something akin to respectability, by truly harking back to past for there latest, skin fest. Starring the very innocent looking Misty Mundae.

I was first alerted to the imminent release to tape of "Roxanna" when i went looking for Section Cinema's web site, to finally set to rest my curiousity about the young lady Misty, the art work certainly caught my attention and Misty looks most attractive, but as ever the image on the cover was more or less evoking the natural beauty of Misty Mundae and Recalling the Initial aspects of the Roxanna character from the original Nick Phillips soft core original.

To be honest, i've never seen the original, but on the dvd, we were treated to a rare extra, rare that is for Seduction, who i can only recall putting out the "Making Of" on "Playmate" and "Women In Black", ofcourse i could be wrong about that, but anyway, the extra in question was that of an interview with 42nd St Pete, who took us on a guided tour of what the original "Roxanna" was all about, as well as give us the viewer a brief history on the origins of the 70's exploration of the skin flick.

42nd Pete said on the dvd, that he watched the remake with Misty, and said that it stood up pretty well to the original, he also if i recall, said that Nick Phillips always tried to put a little plot into the movie's proceedings, and while watching the first opening beats of this redux, i thought i was going to be party to something quite unique, especially as the distributor was Seduction.

I would suppose, like all their other production's that this was shot on videotape, but it looked real nice, with the opening, hypnotic shots of Roxanna, staring off into space, then we dissolve into ominious looking clouds racing through the sky, followed by the descent of a burning sun.

Alas to no avail, after the initial promise, with Misty really putting on the style, she suddenly disappears, and we're left with the usual picnic assortment of scantily clad beautys doing what they do best in the arena of Seduction.

I'm not going to rag on the movie, at the end of the day, it entertained in the only way it knows how, and as for Misty Mundae, for the cover artwork alone, even if you don't care for the movie. When the Boomtown Rats said that they didn't like mondays, They hadn't met Misty! if only every monday could be like Mundae.
