red-haired, pig-tailed girl runs away from a witch
gjhong24 June 2002
14-year old country girl Linn Suzuki has escaped from a cruel witch to find her long-lost brother Tetsujin in the big city. In Japanese they use a Kyoto accent but for the English version she gets a Cockney accent to show she isn't a regular city girl. This video was a two-episode introduction to the manga series by MEE so it barely sets up the characters and storyline. The show is a comedy-adventure. The character designs are pretty and there are a few fan-service scenes of girls bathing and the like. Linn is a master of the quick-draw with a sword technique that you may have seen in other martial arts shows. That proves handy in her battle with a tree-nymph. The show opens with an unusual song composed of samples of modern music mixed with old Japanese folk songs that is pretty catchy. That reason the series is called Adventures of Kotetsu is that Linn gets the nickname "Tetsujin Junior" from her new friends which comes out as Kotetsu which sounds like the word for steel or the name of a Japanese sword/swordmaker. I give this one a "B" with the warning that there are no more adventures.
