There are 172 demons in the town of Willard’s Mill, and it’s up to retired sheriff Stan Miller (John C. McGinley) to stop them. There’s only one problem: Stan would rather take a nap. There is no rest for the recently retired, though, and Stan has even more undead mayhem to deal with in the new episodes of IFC’s Stan Against Evil. The second season of the horror comedy series premieres tonight on IFC, and this past summer, Daily Dead and a group of other journalists had the great pleasure of visiting the Atlanta set to see Stan’s demon-slaying arsenal and favorite recliner in person.

Trailer for Choi Dong-Hoon's Woochi the Demon Slayer, starring Gang Dong-Won Shout Factory's sent along the new trailer for the action flick which gets a Blu-ray and DVD release on April 9th, and includes Gang Dong-Won, Kim Yoon-Suk, Lim Soo-Jung and Yoo Hae-Jin. This fantasy-action blockbuster based on a Korean folktale broke all box-office records in Korea in 2009. Jeon Woo-chi, an undisciplined, womanizing wizard unjustly accused of the death of his master, is trapped inside an ancient scroll until he is set free in 2009 by the wizards that imprisoned him to help fight against evil goblins that have taken over present-day Korea. The only problem is that Woo-chi is more interested in his new modern home – and the women of Korea – than becoming a hero. Will he be the savior of mankind?...

Based on popular Korean folk tales, 2009’s “Woochi the Demon Slayer (Aka “Jean Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard”) finally has a domestic Blu-ray release, courtesy of the fine folks at Shout! Factory. And who doesn’t want to sit in the comfort of their own home and watch giant rat monsters scurry up walls and do battle with a scatterbrained wizard and his sidekick that used to be a dog? If that doesn’t sound like a good time to you, then this probably isn’t the movie for you. However, if that sounds like a total blast, then by all means, give “Woochi: The Demon Slayer” a shot. A sweeping fantasy that spans eons is a little out of line for director Choi Dong-hoon, who is most known for crime films like “The Big Swindle” and “Tazza: The High Rollers.” But don’t worry, there’s still plenty of action to suck on in “Woochi,...

Woochie The Demon Slayer is a 2009 Korean film making its U.S. Dbd/Blu-ray debut April 9th. Woochi (Kang Dong Won) is a 16th century wizard in training who, along with his sidekick (and former dog) Chorangyi finds himselfin the middle of a search for a magical pipe that goblins and evil magicians alike are desperately trying to obtain in order to take control of our world. Time travel, betrayal, magic, and drunken gods who can’t seem to get anything right are all stuffed a lot of story that fill this film’s two and a quarter hours
What makes Korean cinema so interesting is that it doesn’t feel obligated conform to Hollywood formula or conventional genre boundaries. It’s weird and off-kilter, but it’s also a lot of fun. It’s a zippy adventure story that is never far from an entertaining action scene, a hero...

It blew the roof off Korean box office records back in 2009, and now Choi Dong-hoon’s superb eye candy of a big budget fantasy-action epic ‘Jeon woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard’ is heading for a U.S bow on DVD as ‘Woochi: The Demon Slayer,’ via new kids on the Asian movie distributor block….Shout! Factory. If you’ve not seen it before there’s a trailer link below, but be warned it’s got a ridiculously amount of action (and its got plenty) spoilers. Woochi goes on sale April 9th. Synopsis: Jeon Woo-chi, an undisciplined, womanizing wizard unjustly accused of the death of his master, is trapped inside an ancient scroll until he is set free in 2009 by the wizards that imprisoned him to help fight against evil Demons that have taken over present-day Korea. To summarise the plot of Woochi: The Demon Slayer in anything approaching a succinct style is incredibly difficult. At just over two hours, and a little flabby at that, Woochi manages to contain enough plot for a number of blockbuster fantasy action adventures rather than just one. Beginning far, far in the past the film sets up the central character of Jeon Woo-chi (Dong-won Kang), an arrogant and mischievous wizard, and a number of auxiliary characters before flying forwards in time to a point where a number of them are still alive whilst a couple have been transported via magical paintings. That’s just scratching the surface though as there are also the villainous animal demons/goblins, an ultimately villainous character (who shall not be revealed here), three wizards in religious ‘disguise’, a dog-in-human skin sidekick, an intertemporal love interest, a film within the film and so, so much more.

Woochi The Demon Slayer. Woochi The Taoist Wizard. Jeon Woochi. Of all the titles I've seen used for this South Korean fantasy/superhero film, Woochi The Goofball Asskicker with a Ridiculously Complicated Backstory was an opportunity missed. This is the story of Woochi, the headstrong, arrogant wizard who, after being trapped in a painting for hundreds of years following some poor decision making, gets summoned back into the world to deal with some demons that are trying to take over the world. The film has its problems, that's for sure. It takes far to long to get going, concentrating the first forty five minutes on exposition, and that still only barely gets the job done. There are too many characters, and there is far too much backstory...

Woochi The Demon Slayer
Stars: Gang Dong-Won, Kim Yoon-Suk, Yoo Hae-Jin, Lin Soo-Jung | Written and Directed by Choi Dong-Hoon
Woochi The Demon Slayer begins very mythically in 1509 with a trio of Taoist wizards (a Korean three stooges) accidentally releasing an army of shape-shifting goblins, losing the magic flute that can seal them away, and generally ruining the life of the Archgod who’d just spent 3000 days sealing the goblins away.
Gang Dong-Won plays the title character of Jeon Woo Chi whose quest is to become the most powerful wizard in Korea, no matter if he upsets his master or the King. Woochi is aided in his adventures by dog turned human (and sometimes horse) Chorangyi, played with great comedic skills by Yoo Hae-Jin. Woochi ends stumbling upon the prophetic pipe and through the manipulations of demon hunting wizard Hwadam, he and his dog end up sealed within scrolls for 500 years.

Weekend getaways. Don't take them. Seriously, cinema has shown us vacations these days are bad news and it's best to just...stay home. Director Matt Zettell knows the score and his lesson comes via Resurrection County which hits the American Film Market this week. When four suburbanite campers roll into the remote town of Enoch, they find that southern hospitality still exists. But things are not what they appear to be, as a weekend camping trip turns deadly. The locals are all too happy to serve up their own brand of an eye for an eye justice. Get a taste of that "justice" by clicking on the player below to check out the Afm trailer. Resurrection County was scripted by Matt Yeager, based on an idea by James Cotten ( Demon Slayer , Sugar Creek ).

Fans of Joss Whedon will delight—four years after Fox cancelled Firefly, they pay partial penance with this well-intentioned Buffy: The Vampire Slayer remake: Jennifer’s Body. Like Buffy, Jennifer’s Body uses wit and comic book violence to observe that high school social climbing is a close cousin to cannibalism. Unlike Buffy, it fails to deliver the dramatic goods or to show more sophistication than a bitchy teenager...
Jennifer’s Body is high school in every sense of the term. The plot could have come from any semi-literate with a Metallica tee-shirt: A stone fox is possessed by a randy demon with a hankering for boy flesh. In the end, good triumphs over evil. We learn this in the first five minutes, but it isn’t until the closing...
