Presenter Jack Horner, famous for being the main scientific consultant for the Jurassic Park film series, used this documentary to forward his ideas about Tyrannosaurus being an ugly, slow-moving, misshapen scavenger rather than an active hunter. Media at the time widely reported his hypothesis, although he never wrote a scientific paper on it, which caused significant commotion in the paleontologist community. In a 2011 paper, Horner admitted that Tyrannosaurus wasn't an obligate scavenger, since such a large animal couldn't have supported itself by eating carrion and there was clear fossil evidence speaking against this notion. Tyrannosaurus was both a hunter and an opportunistic scavenger, just like nearly all carnivores.
