A very interesting piece of film making, Raw yet seems surefooted
banditstar1 December 2003
I usually visit a lot of festivals and this film i had seen on one of my festival rounds. A short and sweet film of about 15 minutes. Few impressive things stood out. One was definitely the professional work of titling which accompanied the piece. The titles which were very graphic and well designed really gave the necessary lift to the piece, The Music and the sound design was among the best. The actors stood out with a very good performance especially the lead actor and the actress. My only regret was the story and the screenplay was very immature at many points and could have really stood out if it was tightened a bit. The language at many sections were childish. However the visual and directorial work managed to keep the screenplay from falling. At many points the sheer understatement by which the film was directed helped the film stand out from the many short films i have seen. The director managed to create a good atmosphere with the sound design and deft camera framing inspite of the shoddy script. Hope to see more of his work in future and good luck to the team. The story: A man's world is shaken up in a split moment finding traces of his existence removed. This film is about transient perspectives, last minute queries, lost identities and the reconsideration of reality. Overall a very refreshing film.

Very stylish

Warning: Spoilers
This is a very odd film, and while I didn't particularly love the very end (when the man finally realizes who, or what, he is), the style of the film making is very bold and exciting. I especially loved the strange and glitzy credits at the end.

A nasty guy is in a coffee shop and when he goes to the bathroom, he swats a fly. The next thing you know, you see the man is magically transported to a world where no one knows him and it's like an episode of "The Twilight Zone". However, unlike the TV show, he keeps reawakening to all new realities--none of which are real. And, to make things really weird, the only other person who realizes this is happening is a guy who keeps reappearing--first as a hobo and later in other guises. It's all very surreal and weird and the surprise ending is confusing (thank goodness IMDb actually lists a spoiler in the synopsis).

Very stylish and creative.

It's a Student Film, DUH.

Overall, it's interesting but a little disjointed which makes it hard to know what's going on. Could be more cohesive to tell the story better. It seems like there are missing scenes or parts of scenes. BTW, "banditstar's" comments sound a little biased ( since he heavily praises the director and the title sequence artist (FYI: the director's fiancé did the titles) and ignores just about everyone else. It's obviously a student film and unfortunately for whatever reason he's using this forum to boost his buddy's rep (or perhaps the director put him up to it) while depreciating the efforts of everyone else who rolled up their sleeves to make this film happen. The actors, crew and producers should receive just as much credit for their efforts. Bad form, old man.
