Moses presents the Bible
caspian197822 April 2005
A Brando of a man, Charlton Heston is one of the best. The story of the Bible, spoken by Heston is a delightful experience. Much of this documentary takes place on an old Roman / Greek kind of stage where Heston talks to his audience behind a giant wooden desk that is covered with books and relics of the past. Throughout the video series, Heston is seen on location at many historical / biblical sites where many prophets, apostles and followers walked. Whether you are a fan of Charlton Heston or not, you have to agree that Heston's outrageous talents adds to the glory of the greatest story ever told. His talents in speech makes this documentary on the Bible stand out from the dozens of other popular tellings of the story.

Well-Produced Film! Excellent Readings by Heston!

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary-style program on the Bible combines brief commentaries with readings from the Bible by actor Charlton Heston. There are good location settings in the Holy Land that provided the backdrop for Heston's readings.

The program is divided into four 60-minute segments. The first two segments focus on the Hebrew Bible with an emphasis on the Book of Genesis. The second half of the program is a two-part sequence on the New Testament. In those programs, the first part addresses the life and ministry of Christ; the second part focuses on the Passion. The only drawback is extremely limited nature of the program that omits so many of the biblical stories.

Heston's readings were not only dramatic, but the actor seemed to have memorized the lengthy biblical passages. There was good feeling, dramatic emphasis, and overall interpretation of the texts.

With the selections coming from the magnificent King James version of the Bible, this production is an outstanding introduction to the Bible that delivered the oral power of the stories.

An excellent and unique documentary idea!

Watch Mr. Heston Bring The Good Book to Life
KMM1 March 2004
This is Charlton Heston's odyssey into some of the greatest stories of the Bible. I feel he does a great job in bringing the Bible to life as he presents four different stories to the viewer in a way that only he he can do. The video consists of stories about Genesis, Moses, Jesus of Nazareth and The Passion of Christ. All of the stories were shot on location in the Holy Land and are presented with Mr. Heston reading directly from Scripture as well as discussing historical facts about the time and places he is bringing to life. One of the places he resides in while reading includes a first century Roman amphitheater located in Israel.

My particular favorite is The Passion which presents the tragic and triumphant story of Jesus Christ that occurs in the New Testament. It may seem to some that watching one person stand around quoting Scripture on screen would get boring after awhile, but I thought it was really done well with paintings and images of specific scenes as he read through the Good Book. Mr Heston presents the readings in a powerful and impassioned way which left me wanting more. I recommend this video collection if you are a believer in the Bible or even if you are just a Charlton Heston fan. Music, imagery and Charlton Heston's style of presenting the Gospels all make this a memorable experience that you will watch time and time again.
