The Golden Gate International Exposition ran from February 18, 1939 to October 29, 1939 and again from May 25, 1940 until September 29, 1940. It was held to commemorate the completion of the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge in 1936 and 1937, respectively.
The nighttime exterior shots appear sped up because of the exposure time needed for each frame of the Technicolor film used.
Treasure Island operated as a U.S. Navy base from 1942 to 1997 and subsequently was acquired by the city of San Francisco for redevelopment.
