The Weather Channel is plagued by commercials!
jwtrox0870613 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Jim Cantore, by far, is the best man on the program. He brings a lot of energy as well as professionalism to his broadcasts, not to mention a sound understanding and knowledge of what it is he's talking about. He's great in the studio and great on location. It's safe to say that if you live in a coastal town, no matter how much you like him, he's the last person you want to see because you know that if he's in your town, something big is coming your way. Stephanie Abrams is also pretty good even though she is relatively new. The first time I can remember her doing any broadcasts was when she was on location for Hurricane Charley in 2004, when a crew member actually had to physically hold her feet so she wouldn't be blown away. She was pretty much in the path of all of the hurricanes in 2004 so I got used to seeing her. I miss John Hope. I know it's been a few years since his death but the man is simply someone unmatched in expertise on the Tropics. Don't get me wrong, Dr. Steve Lyons is really good, but John Hope was truly great.

Now, about The Weather Channel in general, is it just me or is more broadcast time spent on commercials? This is The Weather Channel. Shouldn't the majority of the air time be dedicated to forecasts and reports? And wouldn't you think that any sponsors would understand that the priority is notifying the public about the weather? If the weather stories are few and far between then I'd understand, but when the sirens are going off in my city and a tornado is about ready to touch down in my back yard, I really, REALLY don't care about Miracle Grow or the Home Depot. I care about seeing Dr. Greg Forbes give his expert analysis on the severe weather situation. "Storm Stories" is okay as is "It Could Happen Tomorrow" but really I watch The Weather Channel for one reason...TO SEE THE FREAKIN WEATHER REPORTS. I swear they should dedicate one channel to digital cable just for commercials so companies will be guaranteed some on air advertising. LEAVE THE WEATHER CHANNEL ALONE! If they can't get rid of the commercials, why not have a split screen like they did with the Indy 500. The race doesn't have media time outs, neither does the weather.

Now in its 20th year, what did we ever do before the Weather Channel?
TxMike6 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Local cable channel 27. Otherwise known as 'the weather channel.' It has become such a fixture in our viewing habits, it is hard to imagine what we did before. I don't remember clearly what we did back in the mid-1980s and earlier, but I suppose we got caught off guard very often. Now, every 10 minutes, "on the eights", we can glance quickly to see local temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, and radar. Since we are basically fair weather outdoors people, for motorcycling, tennis, golf, and gardening, we pay lots of attention to the Weather Channel.

The staff on the telecast are all very pleasant and very professional. After all, you can't make too many jokes about the weather. A viewer favorite is Kristina Abernathy, now in her 10th year. She wasn't very confident when she started but has improved very much. But with her porcelain doll looks, we didn't care much back then. Another favorite of mine is Cheryl Lemke who always has perfect diction and a nice smile, may be the most 'professional' one of the bunch.

Weather Channel I Hate You
RNMorton4 March 2015
My vote doesn't reflect how I feel about Weather Center, it's how I feel about the Weather Channel not showing Weather Center enough. Why show something important like the national weather when you can show Prospectors, Highway Thru Hell, Why Planes Crash and particularly Fat Guys In The Woods? This IS the Weather Channel, right? Not unlike when the Travel Channel started showing Texas Hold 'em tournaments wall to wall. Where do these cable network execs come from? There are 1,000 cable channels out there now, any of which could show Coast Guard Alaska, don't you think you could show something on topic with your channel? Why can't I get Time Warner Weather, a real weather channel? Beyond that, the weather that is shown is now show biz, full of made up storm names and smarmy, obnoxious local reports. Ah, for the old days of Kristina Abernathy and national weather coverage, can't say I ever watch now. P.S. Immediately after I posted this I learned Verizon had dumped TWC for something called AccuWeather. I checked it out, they give real weather reports around the clock. Who would have thought? Yay!!!
