A forgotten filmmaker

Nic Cramer's "XXX Volume II: Predators and Prey" is a stylish though facile all-sex vignettes feature from Sin City, lost in the shuffle of porn history.

Watching it I wondered at how Cramer, a major director two decades back, is now unknown to porn fans. Then I looked it up in IMDb to file this review and he isn't even credited, the director listed as Michael Raven, who was merely exec producer for his Sin City label, an error I am endeavoring to correct in the database.

With Francois Clousot the cameraman overdoing the soft focus (and using two different pseudonyms in the opening and closing credits), we have six scenes with plenty of body makeup as the cast portray animals and oher characters. No, it's not as bad as the recent Hollywood disaster of Webber's "Cats" in movie form, but it's not very good.

For example, Sydnee Steele is cast as The Black Widow, victimizing Randy Spears. But in the end credits she's called The Bat (with her stage name spelling fixed from previous "Syndee") and Spears the Bat's Bait, pretty sloppy. Similarly, beautiful blonde Ava Vincent is The Cobra, humping her Middle Eastern musician Dillon Day, becomes merely Snake in the end credits.

Aurora Snow is effective as Little Red, with Evan Stone as The Wolf, and the animal gimmick is thrown out for Lee Stone as The Vampire, his prey being bosomy Kristal Summers.
