Not the Worst Movie Ever, But Pretty Close
foggy-91 May 2003
An abysmal movie filmed near Newport, RI and with a budget of $7,000. It's a blatant rip off of Blair Witch but with less cohesiveness. Shot on video, there's nothing enjoyable about this movie, nor nothing imaginative. Not as bad as some low-budget movies, but not worth watching.

It was like a train wreck

The only redeemable thing about the movie was the eccentricity or relateability of some of the characters. Bob was a controlling and dull dork. Shawn was an unmotivated and defensiveness well as wishy washy pothead Felicia was rather hot and sexually charged but unfulfilled woman. Missy was a stereotypical somewhat ditsy blonde. The two female leads were nice looking with great legs. Both attractive in an offbeat way but very odd. I wish id read the review before I lost 90 min of my life. If I ever recommended this movie to anyone it would be as a Prank. It was at least better than Eraserhead I will say that for it, which isn't saying much.

Small and funny.

Warning: Spoilers
The plot is simple. Four people go for a hike in the woods. Get lost, argue a lot, and maybe see a UFO. The pleasure in this film is not in the plot but in the characters. Four people of various grades of obnoxious getting annoyed and frustrated with each other.

I have never seen the Blair Witch Project so can't comment on how good a spoof it is (if it is a spoof). But coming to it cold I found it far more entertaining than I expected. It's not a great film, but it's far far better than any of those people who habitually write things like "this is the worst movie ever" on IMDb reviews would ever make.

It's limited in its ambitions but is far funnier and well rounded than a lot of indie movies with far larger budgets.

Broad Blair Witch spoof with a sci-fi angle

Warning: Spoilers
PEOPLE FROM SPACE is an awkward zero-budget science fiction found footage movie that plays out as an open spoof, or rip-off, of the big hit THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT which had just found success at cinemas. Although made on a similar budget it has none of that film's effectiveness or originality, instead coming across as very broad, very obvious, and very silly.

Essentially this is BLAIR WITCH with the main characters hunting for a crashed flying saucer rather than a legendary witch. The film suffers from mannered performances from the cast members and a general lack of cohesion and decent material. Some of the old library music is effectively lively but this is still completely terrible.

Great Movie

I laughed histerically throughout the entire movie. A very clever plot, with very funny acting. From the start, you wonder how this motley crew of characters will go about finding the extraterrestrials who reportedly frequent the remote parts of the forest. At each step of the way, there are unexpected surprises and laughs. Mark Berlin provides great comedy while his very sexy co-star provides both laughs and something for the boys to look at! A must see independent film!
