[[tmz:video id="0_ph9xi7xb"]] Hugh Jackman played lifeguard Saturday after his 15-year-old son got stuck in a riptide in Australia. August 6th and 9th, 1945 forever changed the course of history. When the first nuclear bombs were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, World War II ended, but a new fear was born that dominated the thoughts of all men, women, and children for decades to come. The Cold War, atomic bomb testing, a cartoon turtle telling children to “duck and cover”, and this new technology that had the actual potential to literally end the world changed the perception of what was scary. Art reflects life, so cinema began to capitalize on these fears. Gone were the days of creepy castles, cobwebs, bats, vampires, werewolves, and the other iconic images that ruled genre cinema in film’s earliest decades. Science fiction was larger than ever and giant ants, giant octopi, terror from beyond the stars, and...

Hanna (Ashley Benzo), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) gather at Hanna’s after receiving an Sos text from Ali (Sasha Pieterse). She tries to defend her decision to ask Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) to break into the Marin house, but Spencer is not in a particularly forgiving mood. When Ali leaves to call her dad in private, Spencer tells Hanna and Emily that they need to keep Ali in check. Hanna begs Emily to let her stay with her instead of being stuck in a room with Ali, but Emily says no and leaves. On her way home, Emily stumbles upon Noel sitting in his car, listening to a recording of Ali and Shana, where she talks about things that occurred during her supposed ‘kidnapping.’

'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: Hanna, Spencer And Emily Investigate Jason, Aria Tells Ezra About Shana
Pretty Little Liars’ Aria told Ezra the truth about Shana while Emily, Hanna and Spencer tried to determine who killed Mrs. Dilaurentis in “Surfing the Aftershock.”
After finding Mrs. Dilaurentis’ (Andrea Parker) body buried in the backyard, Ali (Sasha Pieterse) has shut down, so the girls help her get ready for her mother’s funeral. While at the Dilaurentis house, they all notice that tensions are high between Jason (Drew Van Acker) and his father, and Emily (Shay Mitchell) is further convinced that Jason is the one who ‘killed’ Ali and maybe killed his own mother. Spencer (Troian Bellisario), however, disagrees. She doesn’t think Jason, her half brother, is at fault. Besides, she tells Emily, she is more concerned with Ali’s loose ends. Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty), Mona (Janel Parrish) and Ezra (Ian Harding) all know that Ali wasn’t kidnapped like she told the police, and they...

Karl Siemon is a Dp you've almost heard of thanks to a "little" movie called Saw, but if you're a serious cult film fan, you should know him well thanks to an Aussie horror film entitled Razor Eaters (2003).
Now Siemon is handling the cinematography for actor/director Leslie Simpson's first-time outing, Grandpa, and the results are chilling. Dread Central recently had the opportunity to do an email interview with the in-demand Dp while he was shooting a film in Sydney, Australia, and the results are both fascinating and funny.
Dread Central: Hello, Karl. and thank you for taking time to chat with us about Leslie Simpson's short film Grandpa. First off, would you mind telling us a bit about yourself? Your background, where you received your film training, etc.?
Karl Siemon: Cinematography is everything I love about the arts put together: writing, painting, light, color, drama, music.

Simon Pegg has been quite busy as of late. Not only is he starring in Edgar Wright’s epic pub crawl film The World’s End, but he is also reprising his role as Montgomery Scott in Star Trek Into Darkness. Now it’s been announced that he’s been cast in an unspecified role in Australian thriller Kill Me Three Times, from Red Dog director Kriv Stenders.
The film will be about a young woman whose will is tested as she’s linked to several crimes in an Australian town, such as murder and blackmail. Sounds exciting enough. However, the aforementioned British actor will most likely end up playing a supporting role, although director Stenders deemed the part “delicious” and “an exciting surprise for audiences.” Well, if you say so…

For Sydney-based photographer Alina Gozin.a, being a great on-set photographer means being everywhere and nowhere.
.By .being everywhere., I mean you have to be alert," she said "because you might lose the moment in a split of a second. At the same time you need to decide when you should shut up and move away and give up the potential photograph for the sake of the production..
Gozin.a's work has been selected and exhibited in numerous prestigious portrait exhibitions and won several awards including the highly prestigious London Photographic Association's Let's Face It 8 portrait competition (for her photo of filmmaker Luke Doolan) while her on-set experience spreads across feature films, documentaries, TV productions, theatre and key art (including this year's Flickerfest poster). She also recently shot stills and key art on Around the Block starring Christina Ricci and shared unit stills on highly-anticipated ABC series Redfern Now.

Revenge Finale Thoughts and an Alias Comparison
Now that’s how you do a cliff-hanger and Revenge has left us with one humdinger of a finale with several twists to the story (for a full round up head here). The ultimate shocking moment is what Nolan (Gabriel Mann) has discovered in the evidence that would convict Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny) of hiring someone to murder David Clarke (James Tupper). Warning spoilers ahead for Revenge and Alias.
The huge reveal is that Emily’s mother is still alive and is somehow involved in the overall conspiracy of the show. There is a certain Alias vibe to this and there are also shared characteristics between Emily and Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) that we will be exploring.
For most of the first season of Alias we were led to believe that Sydney Bristow's mother had died in a car crash; this wasn't the...

Some of Australia’s biggest names in film-making have received funding for new projects in the latest round of Screen Australia’s single-project feature development.
The funding round for script development has supported 16 projects totalling $400,000, ten new projects and six which receive continued support.
Martha Coleman, Screen Australia’s head of development said: “The calibre of feature projects coming to the Development Department is outstanding. There’s a general acknowledgement from the marketplace that our film-makers have raised the bar and I think the next wave of films in the coming years will be really interesting.”
Film-makers include Julia Leigh, the Edgerton brothers, Abe Forsythe and Kriv Stenders.
Julia Leigh is to direct her second film, Disquiet following on from Sleeping Beauty, which won best direction in a feature film at the Australian Director’s Guild Awards on Friday night. The psychological horror will be adapted by Leigh from her book of the same name.

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.
While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.
And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

It's official everyone: Supernatural was renewed for another season!!! I must admit, I didn't think it was going to happen, but I guess we're all still showing enough support that the CW felt it warranted. I'm so relieved, because I was starting to sweat over the (very close) finale and how there was no way they'd tie up everything in a satisfying way... now we can maybe assume they're saving the Angel War for next season? Who knows.
But this is the recap of episode 19, 'Mommy Dearest' - what a title. I immediately got excited about the fact that we were Finally going to delve properly into the Mother big bag plot, and I'd heard about a few veeery significant guest stars, so I had high hopes!

Oscar-nominated Miracle Fish director and Animal Kingdom editor Luke Doolan has been appointed head of editing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
“I am delighted to welcome Luke to Aftrs. His extensive experience and creative drive will certainly prove to be a real asset for our students. His career path to date has been inspirational, and we feel his hands on experience will translate well into the practical education that Aftrs offers. He is a great addition to our roster of teachers who are all highly experienced working professionals,” said Aftrs CEO Sandra Levy.
Doolan’s editing credits include The Square, Ten Empty and New Skin, as well as the shorts Spider, Crossbow, Lucky and Fuel. He assisted Jill Bilcock on Moulin Rouge and edited previsualisation on both Australia and Baz Luhrmann’s failed project Alexander, as well as the Sydney-shot Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

I love Mark Romanek. His undeniably clever 2002 thriller “One Hour Photo” is a fantastic film, and it actually holds up incredibly well to repeat viewings. That is, of course, if you can stomach watching a slightly unbalanced photo lab employee gradually lose his sanity more than once. Why Romanek has waited so long to lense another movie is perplexing, especially considering how immensely talented the guy is. However, if the story coming out of Slashfilm is worth anything, the wait may be over. Comedian Ben Stiller is set to star in the sporatic filmmaker’s upcoming chilller “The Voices,” a picture which finds Stiller portraying a factory worker who accidentally murders one of his co-workers. In the wake of the homicide, Stiller’s character begins taking advice from his pets in order to cover his tracks. Sound familiar? If you’ve seen writer/director Steve Cuden’s underrated 2002 horror/comedy “Lucky,...

You know you're boring when the only reason people notice you're not around is a full-fledged Lapd manhunt. Yes, Auggie fled town after his tryst with Violet (understandable -- I’m still trying to get rid of the mental picture myself), off to Mexico to go “surfing.” Who did they get to fill in chopping the thyme at Coal!? The knife the cops dug up last week was the weapon used to murder Sydney and it turned out to have Auggie’s blood on it. So a ridiculously large group of cops (and did I hear a helicopter?) swarmed Melrose to find him.

It’s week two and the mystery is gone…maybe. It seems Melrose 2.0 has rushed to a few reveals in the second episode without letting characters, and their seedy pasts, reveal themselves more slowly. Oh well, Melrose Place was never about subtlety. In addition to seeing more of Auggie’s abs (thank you, opening shower scene!), we also learned more about his post-aa bedroom romps with Sydney and about a pre-sobriety bar fight in which his then-girlfriend died and Auggie killed a guy in self defense. The other big Sydney revelation in this flashback-rific episode was that Violet had told Sydney she was her mother. If it’s true, that’s not exactly a shocker (they’re both redheads, and Violet had stolen that photo of Sydney in the first episode). But I’m hoping that the theory is just a little too neat – maybe Sydney’s denials will turn...
