Fine little piece of film
georgkleister16 October 2006
Saw that film on a festival in Bad Liebenstein in 1999 and I liked it very much. It was smart film-making by a surprisingly young director facing the content of the movie, guess he was round 25. I think I never saw that movie afterwards although it was worth being shown elsewhere. Saw so many dull and needless shorts by "upcoming talents" that this one was a pure surprise for me. Two thumps up! Sadly the film did not get any awards that evening although it was he best film around. The only thing is the quite fair look of the film. Some shots are a little bit crappy sometimes and the acting is not as good as it should be, but I prefer story and not overproduced student shorts not worth the footage they're shot on.

A film that made me think and laugh at the same time

I saw this movie a while ago at a small film festival and it fascinated me because of it's ability to make me laugh and think at the same time. The whole movie is made very strict, with almost gray and dull pictures but this supports the intension of it quite well. The story is about a man called Mueller who's just days away from his retirement. When he meet his successor, a young and ambitious man, he reflects his existence and realizes how he blew his private life for a bad job. Mueller is a very quite man who speaks just a couple of words through the whole movie while everyone else is talking the whole time without saying something. When I saw About Schmidt just a couple of days ago for the first time this little movie came back into my mind. It was as this one was a prototype for About Schmidt. When you have the chance to watch this one, do it.
