A high rating ,but not a film for all tastes; half doc half fiction, but without lines ; almost a silent movie, with cries and whispers : even the nurses do not speak;one of them hums a tune without words -perhaps because the children could not understand their words - ,and the record they play is an instrumental .
All the movie takes place in a center for children who suffers from physical disability ; all of them are immured in their silence , in their solitude ; the nurses are dedicated ,but they are powerless and they do not try to communicate with them;as for their family ,there won't be any call during all the movie which spans several months .The world outside the park where their nurses push their wheelchair , is only moving things they see from their window :a bird which takes flight , a plane flying high in the sky ,a train in the distance ....
.....tIll two boys meet during the stroll in the garden ; at first they communicate with their eyes , looks and smiles ; the record make they tap their hands on their wheelchair and the nurses begin to understand that there might be something more to do ; till this moment we had hardly seen their face ,let alone their body; now , on a board they invent stories and both boys are given markers : one draws lines, the other one points. Maybe this could continue and a more sophisticated communication might have been eventually reached. But......
Essential viewing for people interested in the French cinema ,with a strong heart.
