Poor showing

THE FOXY LADIES is another weak sex comedy from Shaw, set to a cheesy disco soundtrack. The main characters are a trio of ladies led by genre mainstay Ai Ti who are tasked with tracking down a missing man. The plot supposedly follows their investigations but feels aimless and episodic, with low brow humour throughout. Male characters appearing include one of the two cross-eyed guys who enliven Hong Kong comedy so much, as well as former martial arts actor Hung Wei. There's a little nudity along the way, but it's outweighed by the lame comedy, and the supposed humour at the action climax is pretty poor too.

A boring and juvenile film that is not very sexy or foxy...

Don't be fooled by the cover description which compares this film to the "Charlie's Angels" TV Series. As bad as that show was it wasn't anywhere near as bad as this embarrassing ripoff. Director Lui Kei's "Foxy Ladies" is a ridiculous, slap stick comedy/action farce that resorts to teasing the audience with brief images of nude female bodies and suggestive dialog in the hopes of passing as a soft-core comedy. The "angels" (Ai Ti, Ling Doi, Wai Wang) seem to be in the film as mere eye-candy and aren't particularly very foxy or sexy. The goofy comedy boarders on the juvenile and the little action that was in the movie was a complete bore. While I generally like most of the Shaw Brothers films of the 70s (even the non wushu, contemporary dramas), I thought this was one of their worst. Definitely to be avoided.
