Zero Enna, a pilot candidate, arrives at the G.O.A. training station where he immediately clashes with a competitor. He's not quite settled in and ends up lost in a Goddess hangar, where he barely manages to get into a Goddess's cockpit.
Still trapped inside the Goddess, Zero relives moments from his past while attempts are made in vain to free him. When the alarm is raised and all units are deployed, things get a bit tense.
While the battle between the Goddesses and the Victim rages in space, Zero regains consciousness in the infirmary and wonders where the woman he saw in the White Goddess has gone. He also has another confrontation with a pilot candidate.
The real pilot training begins which includes numerous checkups and tests to identify and improve any potential weaknesses. Nevertheless, Zero is determined to become a pilot and strives to be the best, which isn't always an advantage.
It's time for the new pilot candidates to familiarize themselves with their Repairers, because only with a Repairer can they reach their full potential. But within a few minutes, Zero manages to embarrass his partner, Kizuna.
Kizuna's and Zero's test begins. At first, everything seems to be going well, but then Zero's fear of weightlessness starts to get the better of him, and he becomes insecure. To get the problem under control, Kizuna takes care of Zero.
The candidates are trained by experienced veterans over the next few days. Zero has been excited ever since they were able to watch their trial fight. Later, they meet an old comrade and Zero manages to make Kizuna angry once again.
Training with the PRO-INGs begins. Thanks to Erts at his side, Zero feels confident and believes in victory. Although Zero still struggles with his PRO-ING's behavior, he quickly gets the hang of it. Unfortunately, Clay gets in the way.
While retreating in a training room after Zero once again was in trouble with his instructor, Zero witnesses Erts collapsing. Erts' brother has been killed as a pilot. Now he's chosen to be a pilot himself and Zero is supposed to help him.
During a practice fight with Clay, Zero has a daydream in which he wakes up in his former home. Zero wakes up but doesn't understand the dream. Meanwhile, Heed wants to test himself against his former training partner in a duel.
Heed loses his nerve during training and is sent to the infirmary. Meanwhile, Clay discovers that all the Candidates' past data has been erased and can no longer be found. Suddenly, all Candidates are called upon to help the Goddesses.
Zero and his classmates are supposed to wait at a certain point to destroy any escaped Victim. Unfortunately, Zero has a problem with his PRO-ING and drifts off course. But Zero isn't giving up so easily.
