End of the world
BandSAboutMovies21 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
N the year 2210, the world as we know it has been wiped out by a virus sent here by aliens - aliens that look like ninjas with pillowcases over their heads. Now, their leader Lord Gideon (Conrad Brooks, yes, from Ed Wood's movies) has sent these alien ninjas to destroy the last two people alive, Jake (director and writer Jose Prendes) and Katherine Great (Denice Duff, Michelle Morgan from Bloodstone: Subspecies II and Bloodlust: Subspecies III and the director of Song of the Vampire; if you're going to be alone with just one woman, you really are doing find if it's Denice Duff).

Beyond Prendes being decent at kicking and punching, he was smart enough to go to a convention and pay Tom Savini and Linnea Quigley to do a scene, which is probably some of the reasons why some people watched this.

Prendes is still making movies, writing stuff like Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark and directing 2022's Headless Horseman. He thanks marshmallows in the credits, which seems like the right thing to do after watching this.

Who would think of making Omega Man on the budget of what Will Smith drank in soda on each day of I Am Legend? Joe Prendes. That's who.

Oh dear......

I do applaud 'writer/director' Jose Prendes for trying.... but I really could strangle him for succeeding!

This is horrible, it really is. I seriously can't say anything good about this drivel. I doubt that even if you're a fan of bad movies you'll get anything at all out of this, other than a good sleep possibly. And as for his acting, that shouldn't be allowed under some human rights legislation or other. It's very painful to humans and quite possibly animals too if they're unfortunate enough to watch any of this by accident.

I see that he's written two more films since this one and directed one of them. Lord help us!

Someone really should take all his cameras and equipment off him to save us more grief. Oh, and his pens and pencils too. Not to mention any computer/word processing equipment he might have. In fact we'd better chop off his hands and rip out his tongue while we're at it. And can't people communicate with their eyes too? Let's pluck those out and slice off the eyelids just for good measure. And what if he's telepathic and could still communicate his ideas to someone else? I think the only way we're all going to be safe would be to decapitate him.

I'll volunteer.

Is this a home video?

This movie looked so much like a home video I wanted to cry. How it's getting good reviews I don't know. It looked terrible, the acting was terrible, the effects were terrible...It was just awful. Reasons why? Well, let's start with the fact it had to have been shot on digital with no budget. Then it's filled with amateurs and some of the worst b movie actors around. It's just THAT bad.

Absolutely terrible
Greybear3323 November 2005
Worse even than Corpses are forever. How people like Tom Savini and the great Miss Quigley were pulled into this specimen I will only wonder. I can think of no situation or circumstance that I would suggest this to anyone.

Not Funny. No special effects. I have seen better dialog in the quiet times of Castaway. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to find the most humor in: The aliens costumes - jogging suits and rain coats. film quality - grainy at the very best, eye straining most of the time. I am sure that it is meant to be funny but they only thing you find humorous is that Mr Prendes has made more than one attempt at film-making. Run away.

Interesting start for a young filmmaker
cinemadave5 September 2002
While he is no Ed Wood, Jose Prendes may be a director to reckon with in the future. "The Monster Man" is a live action comic book of continious action and kung fu. While the film is a bit overlong, there is a strong attempt to entertain. There are some comic situations that are really funny and thought out.

Given the film's backyard budget, this film holds up better than so many mainstream motion picturs with superior budgets. If Prendis maintains his ensemble of actors (Quigley, Savini) and loyal crew, he may be able to create a bigger budgetted career. The potential is there.

Bad "B" schlock, but somewhat fun...
Katatonia14 October 2003
This is an absolutely bad movie...and I think it was meant to be. It obviously had a shoestring budget and very limited resources, but still manages to be somewhat fun. The only real complaints I have is that I couldn't make out and understand most of the dialogue in the movie, and I saw it on DVD. The other complaint is that the picture is as bad as a very used VHS tape. I guess it was either originally shot on video tape or digital camera. It's viewable, but only barely at times.

Denice Duff, Linnea Quigley, and Tom Savini are good reasons to catch this film. Duff is a major character in the movie, while Quigley and Savini have bit parts. Conrad Brooks of "Plan 9 From Outer Space" fame rounds out the minimal cast of The Monster Man.
