They tried

Is this a sequel? They try to make it interesting but it is rather difficult to follow the story. There are lengthy battles but there is inadequate exposition in between. The animation quality is good.

Warning: Spoilers
In the fushigi yugi OVA 3 Eikoden miaka and tamahome finally get married and after their honeymoon they are expecting a child that is 3 months old. They were living happily but they didn't know someone else was in love with taka/tamahome. A girl named Mayo was very in love with tamahome and found a certain book called the universe of the four gods. Finding this she opened it and suddenly the whole story of miaka and tamahome in the book flashed in her mind like a movie being fast forwarded. And then she had a dream that taka/tamahome was in love her and suddenly she thought of something. She thought of going into the book and even when keisuke (miaka's brother) tried to stop her she still went through with it because she thought that if she was the new priestess of suzaku, taka would fall in love her. but when she opened the book and went into the world of the four gods miaka suddenly collapsed and until mayo returns to reality she will remain in a deep sleep. And then the adventure begins for taka to go into the book to try to save his love miaka.

Warning: Spoilers
Taka(Tamahome) and Miaka has started their lives as a married couple. While waiting for their child to be born, Tamahome and Miaka are faced with a new challenge. A new girl entered the world of the four Gods determined to make Taka hers.

This OVA in my opinion was just an unnecessary sequel/spin off to a series which ended perfectly.

The only good qualities I can think were the music was great as usual, so were the visuals and the voice actors even though David Hayter wasn't Tamahome/Taka this time.

The bad qualities well, the story was just stupid, Mayo was just some unlikable yandare stereotype who I couldn't stand in the slightest. She only went in the books because she wanted to copy someone else (Miaka) story and even by doing so steeling her unborn child and husband. She only came to her sense in the lst episode. Oh and the whole fake Suzaku thing was stupid as hell.

The only other good thing is at least the ending didn't spoil Taka and Miaka's happiness but still this is just an unnecessary which I am thankfull didn't turn into a full series.
