Wario and Luigi's voice clips when losing a Mini-Game or losing coins to Bowser were replaced with them shouting in anger in the American and European versions. In the Japanese version they shout "Oh my God!" This was changed as Nintendo of America did not allow their games to have religious connections of any kind. These replaced voice clips are maintained in all versions of Mario Party 2 (1999).
Nintendo used to provide padded sports gloves for gamers who called in and asked for them. This was because some of the mini-games in Mario Party forced you to use your palm to rotate the control stick. This led to injuries including blistering, burns, lacerations, punctures, and cuts. The damages resulted in a lawsuit which led to Nintendo potentially giving out $80 million of padded gloves. This may be the reason on why Nintendo never re-released the game on the Wii and Wii U's Virtual Console.
In future installments after this game, players no longer lose coins after losing a mini-game because the mechanic was considered to be too harsh and unfair for players.

The track "Move to the Mambo" is used in the Japanese and European versions, but not in the American version. There are two Mini-Games which use the song, and their replacement songs are "Faster Than All" for Balloon Burst Mini-Game and "Coins of the World" for Musical Mushroom Mini-Game.
