Seems to be better in hindsight.

When I was in sixth grade, my teacher showed us this in class. It was cheesy, we were educated, and you just wanted to pinch young Ben Affleck's cheeks. This movie was made the year I was born, and I'm growing up in an era where the technology is better and actors are expected to sound more natural, but looking back, it's really not that bad! C.T.'s lessons about other cultures are a tad cheesy, and setting up the explanations for the more educational aspects of the show are a tad contrived, but, like I said, it's really just not that bad. Go ahead, if you can find it, watch it, have yourself a little giggle at young Ben, and learn about phantom limb syndrome and...I think there's something about carbon dating? It's been a few years.

I Remember This...

When I was in grade 5, they put me in this special class because me, and the other four or five kids, could read better then the rest of the class (hey, I got out of gym!). I found this very educational, yet, kind of boring. It was made in the year I was born, and I don't know, I guess it kind of shows. My sister had to watch the first one and it was made the year she was born. Anyway, now, in my 'sophisticated years' (I'm currently in grade 9) I fully appreciate the 'educational values' of this film.

I blame "The 2nd Voyage of the Mimi" for......

I blame "The 2nd Voyage of the Mimi" for getting me interested in the Maya. I was always interested in Archaeology. But when I saw the Mayan sites on that movie series in junior high, I was really awestruck.

Now....I am just one semester away from getting my degree in Anthropology/Archaeology and I will be going to the Yucatan for the second time this coming May to help excavate a Mayan site. :-D This past May I backpacked around the Yucatan and saw just about every Mayan site you can think of. Weather kept me from getting to one, but I hope I'll be able to go back and try again.

If anyone knows where I can get a copy of the 2nd Voyage of the Mimi, I'd love to get it. I can't find it anywhere.

I never thought that "BEN AFFLECK"...
jasmine_rockstar8 June 2004
I first saw this movie in 6th grade. It was a series of movies about the Myan Ruins. Basically a little like "Reading Rainbow" with Lavar Burton. One thing about these films stood out to me and i remember to this day vividly what i was thinking while watching them. There was a kid who stared in both films who caught my eye, named Ben Affleck. I NEVER thought that some skinny little bonehead kind from "voyage of thr mimi" Would ever amount to anything. I even remember telling my schoolmate's "this kid will NEVER be an actor". But boy, was i WRONG! Who'd of thought that the once little nobody from the educational film i saw in 6th grade, would turn out to become "Bennifer". But the film was very educational. lol

Better than the first one

The first mimi majorly sucked. It was about pathetic people who ate peanut butter. This one is far more interesting, but it will still waste your time. Do something better with your lives. It does have an amputee, and Ben Affleck's cuter.
