    Guinevere and Lancelot meet again

'My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs' is a good mix of songs and artists, showcasing the best of songs about affairs of the heart. So we see Linda Eder, Brent Spiner, Robert Goulet, Chita Rivera, Peter Gallagher and many more, out on stage and presenting those great songs just as they should be sung.

But the highlight for me is Julie Andrews, hosting, introducing her Lancelot, Robert Goulet, to sing songs from Camelot, in which they appeared together forty years earlier. It's a touching moment. Other stand-outs include Chita Rivera's appearances: she's one of those great Broadway singers, all voice and heart, that just belong on a stage.

A must see for every theater lover...

if only to see Julie Andrews sing again. Granted, it's only two or three notes (in a duet with Michael Crawford), and they show how much the voice has deteriorated, but it was a heroic effort and well worth the standing ovation Ms. Andrews received. What was sweet was seeing just how touched Mr. Crawford was by her ovation. He was teary eyed, and I suspect he was not the only one -- I know I sniffled a bit.

Overall, this is an interesting production showcasing love songs from Broadway's greatest shows. Some songs are better than others, some better performed than others, but a good chance to get an idea of why live shows are well worth the price of admission.

    An Excellent Show Overall

I must confess that I originally bought this DVD, just for three actors/performers - Brent Spiner, Julie Andrews and the angelic Michael Crawford. However, despite this reason, I found this show to be absolutely thrilling. For me, it had been a long time since I last saw Julie Andrews, so it was especially wonderful to see her again. And, for her to sing with my most favorite's actor, Mr. Michael Crawford - oh, what a treat! The joy in their eyes after their duet - and their brief dance, as the audience applauded hysterically was an especially beautiful moment. The faint tears in Mr. Crawford's eyes were so moving. It seemed that he had danced and sung with a goddess. It's a must-see for any fans of these various performers.

Robert Goulet, who performed "If Ever I Would Leave You," introduced the song playing Lancelot in the original Broadway production of "Camelot." The only other songs performed by the originators were "Music of the Night," sung by Michael Crawford, and "Seasons of Love." Adam Pascal, as one of the original "Rent" cast members, participated in this ensemble song.
