Best Actor Oscar Winners List (Photo Credit – Instagram/Wikipedia)
The Academy Awards have long vaunted acting titans, and a rare few male actors have commandeered the Best Actor statuette more than once, with Daniel Day-Lewis scaling the peak thrice. From living legends like Tom Hanks to recent winners such as Adrien Brody, 10 men are trailing Day-Lewis’ record. Here is every name with two or more wins in this hallowed category.
1. Daniel Day-Lewis
Sir Daniel Day-Lewis stands alone with three Best Actor Oscars, a feat no other man has matched. His wins were facilitated thanks to dramatic transformations for My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln—roles that exhibit him as an unforgettable chameleon. The Irish actor has retired since 2017’s Phantom Thread, but his five nominations out of fewer than a couple dozen movies certainly make us wonder whether Day-Lewis could come back for that gold once again...

Denzel Washington, a multi-talented Hollywood legend, has been dominating the world of acting, directing, and producing since his debut in the late 1970s. With an extensive filmography that highlights both action and drama movies, it is no surprise that the actor is beloved by critics and audiences alike. While Washington may be most recognized for his role as Robert McCall in the Equalizer films, his influence on the entertainment industry expands much further.
He has won various prestigious awards, including both Oscars and Golden Globes, for his roles in Glory and Training Day. He has also made an impact in theater, winning a Tony for his performance as Troy Maxson in Fences, a role he later reprised for the film adaptation.

Known for her impeccable attention to detail both on and off the screen, Dakota Fanning once admitted, “I like everything perfect. Everything has to be neat… My shoes are all arranged. It’s sad. I’m a little like Ray, a little bit” (Los Angeles Times). This meticulous nature extends to her effortlessly polished style, whether she’s on the red carpet or running errands.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
Horror movies may not often get a whole lot of respect, critically speaking. For whatever reason, they are often treated as a lesser form of entertainment. It's only the rarest of rare genre offerings that can go on to become embraced both critically and commercially, with Jordan Peele's "Get Out" serving as a shining example from relatively recent times. That's an outlier though. One undeniable truth though is that these movies are a reliable backbone for Hollywood studios, delivering consistent profits against relatively low investments. Good movies, bad movies, it often doesn't matter.
Hardcore horror fans will tell you that the number of bad movies far outweighs the good in any given year. It's about searching for that diamond in the rough.

Sean Penn may not be the first actor who comes to mind when thinking over the history of funny movie performances. Indeed, Penn’s reputation is as the most serious of thespians, and his is a well-earned one, built upon award-caliber work in heavy-hitting dramas like Dead Man Walking, Mystic River and Milk. But in fact, Penn’s long and impressive filmography is peppered with roles that have seen him shifting gears from drama to comedy, sometimes with memorable results.
Penn’s co-starring turn with then-wife Madonna in Shanghai Surprise may have been an early disaster, but the star kept on scratching his comedy itch nonetheless, starring alongside Robert De Niro in the remake We’re No Angels. Letting his funny side out finally paid off for Penn in terms of awards love, when his performance as a self-absorbed jazz guitarist in Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown garnered an Oscar nomination.

Like the actor who plays him — T.O.P. — Thanos is a famous rapper in the real world. Dakota Fanning is reflecting on surviving the “fallen child actor” trope. The “Perfect Couple” star, who began acting at age six back in 2000, told The Cut that she endured being asked “super-inappropriate questions” during interviews when she was a kid.
“In interviews at a young age, I remember journalists asking me, ‘How are you avoiding becoming a tabloid girl?’ People would ask super-inappropriate questions,” Fanning said. “I was in an interview as a child and somebody asked, ‘How could you possibly have any friends?’ It’s like, ‘Huh?’”
Fanning added that she has “definitely felt this kind of vibe from people almost wanting me to fail or something” as she has been in Hollywood for almost 25 years.
“It makes you feel a little bit guarded,” she said of outgrowing (and outlasting) the stereotypes of being a child actor. “I’m just living my life over here.”
And it helped that...

Dakota Fanning recently spoke to The Cut about the awkward and oftentimes inappropriate interviews she was put into as a child star. The actor started her professional career at 6 years old and emerged as one of the Hollywood’s biggest child stars with performances in “Man on Fire,” “I Am Sam,” “War of the Worlds” and more.
“In interviews at a young age, I remember journalists asking me, ‘How are you avoiding becoming a tabloid girl?’ People would ask super-inappropriate questions,” Fanning said “I was in an interview as a child and somebody asked, ‘How could you possibly have any friends?’ It’s like, huh?”
“I have a lot of compassion for people who have been made into examples. If society and the media hadn’t played their part, who knows?” Fanning added about child stardom, noting that she was able to largely avoid the toxicity that so many young performs endure.

Sean Penn and Tom Hanks have a few things in common. Both of them are American actors, have starred in countless breathtaking films, and both of them, being straight, have played a gay character in their respective careers which got them an Oscar each. For Sean Penn it was the 2008 biographical drama, Milk, and for Tom Hanks it was 1993’s legal drama film, Philadelphia.

Penn entered the Oscar race for the first time with his performance as a death row inmate in Tim Robbins’s “Dead Man Walking” (1995), for which he competed in Best Actor. While Roberts noted that she could not relate to the testimonials captured in “Quiet on Set,” she empathizes with fellow former kid stars.
“I watched [‘Quiet on Set’], and I was completely horrified and shocked because that was not my experience,” Roberts said. “It made me really, really, really sad that that was happening to people that I literally saw often and had no idea.”

Sean Penn rarely grants interviews — he and the press haven’t always gotten along, to say the least — but last week, at his home in Malibu, the venerated actor and filmmaker sat down with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast for an in-depth conversation about his life, career and most recent project, Daddio, an indie, released last Friday, of which he is particularly proud.
Seated in a small, light-filled room that he recently re-designed himself, the walls of which are covered with photos of his late parents, his two children and himself alongside many of world figures he has encountered in his travels as an activist, Penn, sporting a shock of white hair, puffed on cigarettes, spoke softly and was far warmer than his reputation would suggest he’d be. At 63, thrice divorced and currently single, he seems to have found a measure of peace — at least when one...

The horror genre continues with original stories, sequels, and adaptations - like The Watchers. Dakota Fanning's horror movie debut began in Hide and Seek in 2005 with her standout performance. Watching Hide and Seek after The Watchers highlights Fanning's growth as an actress in the horror genre.
The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning, and its a great reminder to watch her horror movie debut from 2005. The horror genre keeps going through a great run with original stories, sequels, reboots, and adaptations of preexisting works, and falling into the latter category is The Watchers. The transition from being a child star to being an adult actor is often a challenging one. While child actors are under a lot of pressure to fulfill specific roles when they are at the right age, it can be challenging for them to reinvent their image when attempting to take on more mature roles. Dakota Fanning became a breakout child performer with her award-winning role in I Am Sam and emotional performance in Steven Spielbergs remake of War of the Worlds, but it was evident that she had ambitions to take on mature material. Fanning got the opportunity to prove her dramatic abilities in the Kelly Reichardt-directed thriller Night Moves.

Dakota Fanning went viral in April for revealing that not only did Tom Cruise gift her a cell phone when she celebrated her 11th birthday on the set of their 2005 movie “War of the Worlds” but that he’s also proceeded to send her a birthday gift every year since. That’s nearly two decades worth of birthday presents, all of which have apparently been shoes. Fanning revealed the specifics of Cruise’s gifting habits during a new interview on Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show (via Entertainment Weekly).
“I turned 11 on ‘War of the Worlds,’ when we worked together and he gave me my first cell phone for that birthday,” Fanning said. “It was a Motorola Razr…I didn’t have anyone to call, but I wanted a Razr so bad. I must have been talking about it a lot because that’s what he got me. It’s such a great memory.

Despite her age, Dakota Fanning may very well be one of the most experienced actors on any given set. Her big-screen career began at the mere age of seven when she shared scenes with Hollywood heavyweights like Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer in I Am Sam.
Justin Chatwin, Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds (2005)
As Fanning takes on her latest role in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Watchers, it’s worth considering how her earlier experience in the horror genre, namely Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, may have influenced her acting approach. This latest foray into the supernatural with The Watchers offers an opportunity to explore the impact of those early experiences on Fanning’s acting repertoire.

Elle Fanning's casting in Badlands is unexpected but promises a unique and fresh take on the Predator franchise. Fanning's lack of action experience adds intrigue, hinting at a potential shift towards psychological horror or thriller genres. Badlands may open the door for crossover with Prey, offering exciting new possibilities for the franchise's future.
The newly announced Predator movie Badlands has set its sights on its new star. Celebrated actress Elle Fanning, best known for her Golden Globe-winning performance as Catherine the Great in the Hulu series The Great (20202023), is expected to take on the lead role in Dan Trachtenberg's upcoming sci-fi movie. Trachtenberg directed 2022's Prey starring Amber Midthunder, which was the fifth mainline installment of the celebrated Predator series that began with the original 1987 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With Prey 2 already confirmed under Trachtenberg's direction, the pivot to focusing on Badlands is somewhat surprising but ultimately...

The Manson Family cast in 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' features recognizable faces and big stars in small roles. Quentin Tarantino's movie delves into the dark side of Hollywood with the inclusion of the Manson Family in the plot. Young actors like Margaret Qualley, Austin Butler, and Maya Hawke found breakout success after appearing in the film.

Dakota Fanning is starting her week by making the rounds on the media circuit in elegant white spring outfits, anticipating the April 4 spring premiere of her Netflix psychological thriller series, Ripley.
With the eight-episode limited series coming to Netflix in black-and-white, I think Dakota Fanning’s all-white selections for the press tour make perfect sense.

I love the white shirt dress Fanning wore to her Tuesday appearance on Good Morning America. It’s elegant but not dull, perfectly encapsulating her signature edgy and classy style.
The I Am Sam star chose the $645 “Samba” dress by Simkhai, a Los Angeles-based fashion label known for providing modern women with exquisite ready-to-wear creations that combine feminine sensuality and masculine edge.
I particularly like how Fanning’s dress creates the illusion of a shirt tucked into a midi skirt.

Pop music phenoms come and go, fall in and out of favor and sometimes fade into total obscurity. Very few remain relevant a decade removed from their initial success, and you can count on maybe two hands the number of artists who can knock out a new song or reissue and top the Billboard charts 50-plus years after their debut.
And then there's The Beatles.
From the moment they scored their first number one hit in the U.K. with 1963's "From Me to You," The Beatles drew on their multitude of musical influences — blues, country, rockabilly, and the sui generis soul sounds pulsating out of Motown — to create perfectly constructed, infectiously catchy singles that earwormed their way into the fabric of your being. Within three years of breaking big in the U.S., they released the pioneering folk-rock LP "Rubber Soul," flirted with psychedelia and raga on the expansive "Revolver,...

Fanning's movies The Equalizer 3 and Trapped are both among Netflix's top 10, despite the latter being released 21 years ago. Two decades ago at this time, the Oscar race for Best Actor was shaping up to be a rather competitive one. We had no idea what we were in for. Allow me to backtrack just a bit.
Three-time previous nominee Sean Penn had taken an early lead for his role as a troubled ex-convict and grieving father in Clint Eastwood’s crime drama “Mystic River.” Then Bill Murray began to generate major buzz for his portrayal of an aging movie star in Sofia Coppola’s acclaimed Tokyo-set comedy “Lost in Translation.”
The Golden Globes did little to clarify things. Penn prevailed in the drama category while Murray picked up the comedy/musical award. The latter did arguably get a bit of a boost with his charming acceptance speech.
All eyes were then on the Screen Actors Guild Award, which many thought would serve as a tie-breaker. But in the ultimate awards twist,...

Anyone who knows and loves a theater kid understands that they can be… a little much. To their credit, theater kids accept and embrace this reputation. Both the excessiveness of theater kids and their willingness to celebrate their extremities can be seen in the comedy Theater Camp, directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman. After winning over critics and earning a strong, if limited, return in theaters, Theater Camp has come to Hulu.
Based on a short film that Gordon and Lieberman made with Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, Theater Camp features a group of theater kids trying to save their camp from the founder’s jerky son, who wants to sell it off for something more profitable. Both self-aware and sincere, Theater Camp is a love letter to the over-the-top nerds who can sing every word of A Chorus Line and know that Andrew Rannells was in Street Sharks.

Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn star in Christy Hall's Daddio, a film about two strangers having a deep conversation during a cab ride in New York City. Actress Elle Fanning didn’t get a part in a film because she was thought by bosses to be “unf****able” when she was 16 years old. The 25-year-old actress was going for a part in a father-daughter comedy movie when she was 16 but was unsuccessful and was later told by bosses that it was because she was not sexy enough to appear on screen, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’ve never told this story, but I was trying out for a movie. I didn’t get it. I don’t even think they ever made it, but it was a father-daughter road trip comedy. I didn’t hear from my agents because they wouldn’t tell me things like this – that filtration system is really important because there’s probably a lot more damaging comments that they filtered – but this one got to me.

Elle Fanning, like her equally talented sister Dakota, have been two huge Hollywood stars since a very young age. The current protagonist of The Great has managed to make her own name for many years now, starring in big blockbusters like Maleficent, more independent projects like The Neon Demon, and even on the small screen with series like The Girl from Plainville or the already mentioned Hulu’s hit.
However, despite the myriad of titles and awards she's garnered throughout her career, and being recognized as one of the best young actresses in the industry, she may still have trouble landing some roles, especially if it’s in big franchises.

David Fincher’s The Game is a fascinating thriller, and its all-star cast makes the movie one of the most memorable and powerful entries in the director’s filmography. Released in 1997, The Game chronicles the complex relationship between two wealthy brothers who find themselves caught up in a game of secrets and deception. The Game is among David Fincher's most rewatchable movies because it features plenty of twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats and withhold the truth right until the very end of the story, warranting multiple viewings to really see how it all comes together.
David Fincher's best movies are known for their celebrity casts and powerful performances, several of which have received Academy Award nominations over the years. From Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield in The Social Network to Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl, the director clearly knows how to draw...

Exclusive: Malcolm McDowell is saddling up with James Paxton, Bernadette Peters and Laura Marano for Adam Rifkin’s Western Last Train to Fortune.
Last Train to Fortune also reteams McDowell with his former wife, Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen, the duo previously starring together in the 1979 sci-fi drama Time After Time and the 1983 Martin Ritt drama Cross Creek.
In the pic, McDowell plays Cecil Peachtree, a stuffed-shirt schoolmaster who misses the last train to Fortune and meets an outlaw named Dooley (Paxton), at which point they strike a deal: The gunslinger will ride the book-loving Cecil to Fortune in exchange for his teacher’s stipend awaiting him. Along the way there are gunfights, jailbreaks and saloon gals, and our mismatched heroes form an unlikely bond. The pic, which is produced by Michael P.J. Gerstein, Paxton, Matt Williams, Rifkin and Brad Wyman (the Oscar-winning Charlize Theron drama Monster) is said to be...

Over the past decade, thanks to the efforts of anime production companies like Studio Ghibli and streaming services like Netflix voice acting has experienced a celebrity boom and that's even been seen in the realm of Anime.
Previously, the important work of voice actors for animated movies and television series largely took a back seat to the artwork or music of a feature, and voice acting jobs were given to people who had exceptional vocal abilities or experience in radio. Voice acting wasn't seen as a pathway to success for people who desired to be seen, especially for dubbing jobs. Eventually, however, the success of a few animated features using the voice of celebrities led to a deluge of interest. Now celebrity voice actors are the rule rather than the exception for big-budget content. Moreover, as anime has become increasingly popular, more and more celebrities are agreeing to dub anime...

Austin Butler’s screen acting career began 16 years ago, but, in many ways, he’s still just getting started. His breakthrough role as Elvis Presley in 2022’s “Elvis” has brought him some of his best notices yet, and he may now be on the precipice of a film industry awards season winning streak. This could include a Best Film Actor victory at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which would be historic in that he would be the youngest man to ever take the prize.
At age 31, Butler is the youngest of Gold Derby’s five presently predicted Best Film Actor SAG Award nominees by a margin of 15 years. He ranks third on our list behind Brendan Fraser and Colin Farrell and ahead of Bill Nighy and Tom Cruise. The strongest contender who is younger than Butler is Jeremy Pope in seventh place, while our top 20 includes five more actors who...

The prologue of “God of War Ragnarök” peaks with a dramatic moment that fans of Sony’s blockbuster video game franchise have been waiting for since it was teased at the end of the previous installment in 2018: The reveal of the saga’s big bad, a Norse deity whose obsessive desire to rip apart the fabric of fate itself has severely complicated the former God of War’s quest to scatter his wife’s ashes from the highest peak in all the nine realms and establish an emotional bond with the child he seldom refers to by name.
The wall of ice between Kratos (Christopher Judge) and Atreus (“Mid90s” breakout Sunny Suljic) has only gotten more frigid now that the boy is a bonafide teenager, and with Fimbulwinter blanketing Midgard under mile-deep sheets of white snow — the cold snap heralding the deadliest battle the world has ever known — it...
