The shows name (which translates to "autophile" in English) has become part of the Norwegian language thanks to the shows success, and in March 2004 host and show creator 'Jan Erik Larssen' described how he came up with the name: "I wanted to offer NRK (Norwegian National Broadcasting) a program for people with a special interest in cars. I dribbled around with the word "auto" that I wanted to have in the name. Eventually I landed on "Autoporno" (Autoporn), but when I launched it to my dear parents home in Skien (Norway) there were loud protests. Mom and dad almost started crying (they're a religious family) and I had to continue the search. Then suddenly the name was in front of me - autofil. Someone who loves cars."
