The Skeleton Key (2005) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
As I’m sure you wonderful gore-hounds know by now, we love every weird and wonderful sub genre the twisted world of horror has thrown our way over the years. Sit this particular horror fan down to watch the latest splatterfest, zombie massacre, creature feature or slasher flick, to name but a few, and I’d be happy as a pig in shit. Happier in fact. Folk horror and witchcraft is one subgenre that I’ve grown to increasingly appreciate over the years, and most recently the work of Robert Eggers, for example, has had me enthralled. It was his 2015 folk horror, The Witch, that first introduced me to his nuanced, macabre yet beautifully crafted movies, and everything he’s produced since has been a must see. The trailer for his take on Nosferatu has just dropped at the time of writing this video and it looks immense. However, with...

“Val Kilmer was Morpheus”: Will Smith Admits He Regrets Turning Down Keanu Reeves’ Role in The Matrix Despite an Awful Pitch About 30 Cameras
Image
Would The Matrix starring Will Smith as Neo and Val Kilmer as Morpheus still be as legendary? Fans will never get to live in this reality as the Wachowskis’ modern-day classic changed the sci-fi and action genres with Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne in those roles. The film was one of the highest-grossing films of the year and redefined the sci-fi genre.

Will Smith has turned down many roles in his career but the Bad Boys star reportedly regrets turning down Neo the most. He mentioned that he could not see the vision of the filmmakers as he had received an awful pitch from the Wachowskis. He mentioned that their terrible pitch for The Matrix involved a very crude explanation for the iconic ‘bullet time’ sequence.

Ezra Miller And Saul Williams Launch MartyrLoserKin Productions, Sets Sci-Fi Musical ‘Neptune Frost’ As First Project
Ezra Miller
Exclusive: Actor Ezra Miller has teamed with artist and musician Saul Williams to create the MartyrLoserKin production company. Under the newly-launched banner, the two have set their first project: a sci-fi musical titled Neptune Frost which will be directed by Williams.

Keeping in the innovative and artistic spirit of Miller and Williams, the company aims to “create and proliferate works that dismantle conventional cinematic ideological frameworks, as well as to synergistically naturalize into this industry more poetic, queer, explorative, anarchic, diverse, subversive, non-binary, aboriginal, environmental, ecological and esoterically conscious content that will speak to both the times in which we live and the forces that seek to restrict them.”

Their aforementioned first project, Neptune Frost is certainly on-brand with their inclusive, conceptual and open-minded mission statement. The sci-fi musical follows an intersex African hacker, a coltan miner and the virtual marvel born as a result of their union. Miller will produce alongside Williams.

‘Nine Lives’ Review: Kevin Spacey Is Transformed Into A Cat In This Neutered Family Comedy From Hell
Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken, Jennifer Garner, Mark Consuelos, Cheryl Hines, Robbie Amell, and Malina Pauli Weissman in Les neuf vies de M. Boule-de-poil (2016)
Less funny than the average cat gif and approximately 1,000 times as long, the astonishingly stupid “Nine Lives” is too fluffy and frivolous to be the worst movie of the summer, but it might just be the laziest. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black”) and written by one of the finest algorithms money can buy, this derivative story about the very secret lives of pets is quite possibly the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs. “Cat’s don’t care about you,” begins the film’s opening voiceover. Judging by the 89 minutes that follow, people don’t care about you all that much either.

Kevin Spacey (“K-Pax”), who is apparently being severely underpaid for his work in “House of Cards,” stars as Tom Brand, a New York real estate titan who likes to put his name on buildings, hire his children in key positions, and treat people so...

25 mainly forgotten Us number 1 movies from the 2000s
Kevin Spacey, Steven Seagal and, erm, Kangaroo Jack: they all nabbed the box office top spot last decade...

By the end of the 2000s, getting number one at the American box office was a valuable marketing commodity. As such, studios pumped more and more money into making sure they at least had a great opening weekend for their product.

The consequence of this was that it was harder and harder for smaller and quirkier films to take a brief spot in the sun. Certainly towards the second half of the decade, it seems that the number one movie each week was pre-ordinained in a marketing meeting somewhere.

Still, there were some films that have since fallen out of public view that clawed their way to number one. How many of these do you remember?

Eye Of The Beholder

The top 25 underappreciated films of 2005
Odd List Ryan Lambie Simon Brew 16 Jan 2014 - 06:20

Another 25 unsung greats come under the spotlight, as we provide our pick of the underappreciated films of 2005...

It's underappreciated films time again, and this week, we delve deep into the year 2005 - a collection of months dominated by the likes of Star Wars: Episode III, another Harry Potter, Steven Spielberg's War Of The Worlds, Peter Jackson's King Kong, and CG family movie Madagascar.

It was also the year Pierce Brosnan formally bowed out of his role as James Bond, and Martin Scorsese's The Aviator was hyped to win the director his first Oscar, but didn't. Still, the contents of this list received nothing like the acclaim of The Aviator, nor the financial pickings of a Star Wars or Harry Potter. As ever, we've focused on 25 films which we think deserve a bit more love.

So with apologies to...

The top 25 underappreciated films of 2001
Odd List Ryan Lambie Simon Brew 5 Dec 2013 - 06:54

Our voyage through history's underappreciated films arrives at the year 2001, and a vintage year for lesser-seen gems...

Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clarke may have seen 2001 as the year we'd head off to meet alien intelligences in the depths of space, but in reality, its cinematic landscape was dominated by fantasy rather than extra-terrestrials. Rowling and Tolkien dominated the box office, with Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone and The Fellowship Of The Ring earning almost $1bn each, while Monsters, Inc and Shrek thrilled old and young audiences alike.

At the other end of the spectrum of success, 2001 was such a vintage year for movies that we had to whittle our usual selection of 25 films down from an initial selection of more than 40. This is why the decision was made - with heavy heart - to exclude some of our favourite films,...

Mary McCormack Finds Conspiracy On Jekyll Island
Mary McCormack
Whatever shenanigans The Conspiracy On Jekyll Island has in store for us, its plot has just thickened with the news that West Wing alumnus Mary McCormack is joining the sinister goings-on. Jekyll Island, on the coast of Georgia, isn't even a proper island so there's one secret for starters. There's no word on who the K-pax and Deep Impact actress will be playing, but she joins a cast that already includes Frank Grillo, Diana Agron, Minnie Driver, Maggie Q, John Leguizamo and Ed Westwick. The plot follows an ex-Wall Street financier (Grillo) who is hired by the Treasury Secretary to stave off a concerted cyber assault on the Us. The stakes are high: the fragile American economy is threatened with ruination, so, like a white collar Die Hard 4.0, he's soon enlisting his wife and an It helpdesk's worth of tech mavericks to save the day.Jekyll Island itself is the...

‘Warcraft’ Gets Release Date; Slated Against ‘Inferno’
After nearly a decade since its announcement, it looks like the ‘Warcraft’ movie is finally, actually coming out. Box Office Mojo reports that Universal will release the film on December 18, 2015. As of this moment, that pits it against Sony’s ‘Inferno’, the third theatrical adaptation of the Dan Brown series of books.

With Tom Hanks and Ron Howard reuniting and a considerable worldwide box office between them on the series, ‘Inferno’ is hardly a pushover for ‘Warcraft’. That said, the two don’t exactly appeal to the same demographic, so even if neither adjusts their date, there should be enough money to go around.

The latest unconfirmed ‘Warcraft’ rumours are that Paul Dano, fresh off ‘Prisoners’, and Anton Yelchin of ‘Star Trek’ have been offered roles. Also on that rumoured list are the likes of Colin Farrell, Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel and Anson Mount.

‘Warcraft’ is to be helmed by director Duncan Jones,...

The HeyUGuys Interview: Director Iain Softley discusses Trap for Cinderella
With a series of major Hollywood productions to his name, starring some of the biggest names in the industry such as Angelina Jolie and Kevin Spacey, director Iain Softley has returned to his roots somewhat with his latest picture Trap for Cinderella, and we were fortunate enough to speak to the filmmaker ahead of the films July 12 release.

The man behind the likes of K-pax, Inkheart and Hackers returns to his hometown of London, directing his first contemporary picture in the capital. He discusses the joys of working on a more modest sized production, and how important it is for a director to get casting right – having taken a risk with relative newcomers Tuppence Middleton and Alexandra taking on the lead roles. He also tells us of the importance is going in to Trap for Cinderella with as little knowledge as possible, while likening the role of film director to...

Brussels 2013: Trap For Cinderella Is A Sexy Throwback To Suspense Films Of Yesteryear
Iain Softley's Trap For Cinderella harks back to elegant, suspenseful mysteries like Vertigo and Diabolique. In the shadow of those films, it's not particularly groundbreaking, but it's so stylish, intriguing and well-made that innovation hardly seems necessary. After all, the old adage warns us not to fix things that aren't broken, and Softley complies admirably. Were it not for a couple scenes involving cell phones, some pop songs, and the film's fairly copious amount of nudity, it'd be easy to mistake the movie for a lost, sleeper gem from the 60's. Alex Barber's excellent, desaturated 35 mm photography only adds to the retro feel. It's a deft, remarkably assured work, and certainly not the type of film I expected from the director of K-Pax.  ...

Nerd Alert: 'World of Warcraft' Movie is Officially Happening
Almost no video game in the history of geekery has had as much ravenous fanfare as "World of Warcraft," and now the much-buzzed cinematic adaptation is finally underway ... and, to boot, it's in some pretty darn good hands.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the inventive Duncan Jones of "Moon" and "Source Code" fame has been officially tapped by Legendary Pictures to direct the fantasy/sci-fi project, and it looks like he's totally up to the task of trying to make a good movie based on a video game happen where so many others have floundered.

"So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper Movie of a video game. Ive always said its possible. Got to Do it now!" Jones wrote on his Twitter feed.

For those looking for any hints as to how he'll approach filming the infamous role-playing game, he once told Explorer that the...

Duncan Jones to Direct Warcraft Movie
After losing Sam Raimi as a potential director last year, the folks at Legendary Pictures have been on the hunt for a suitable replacement to take over their World of Warcraft movie. Now this week it looks like they have found their man in Duncan Jones, director of the well-received sci-fi flicks Moon and Source Code. The movie is based on the wildly popular Mmo video game by Blizzard Entertainment, which takes place in Azeroth and pits the heroic Alliance versus the evil Horde. They are aiming to start production this fall with an eye on a 2015 release date. According to THR, Jones has signed on to direct the fantasy film, which will simply be called Warcraft. The script was written by Charles Leavitt, who previously penned K-Pax, Blood Diamond and the upcoming fantasy film The Seventh Son. Although Jones is known for getting the most out of modestly budgeted projects,...

TSRn: Duncan Jones Chosen to Direct ‘Warcraft’ Movie
The Scorecard Review news

News: Duncan Jones, director of Moon and Source Code, is set to direct a live-action adaptation of the “Warcraft” video game universe.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Thoughts by Tsr: Moon was among my favorite films of 2009, and I really enjoyed Source Code, but I’m still a bit torn on this news. I generally have mixed feelings when it comes to directors I love doing stuff like this. Back when Darren Aronofsky was attached to The Wolverine, I was similarly of two minds. On the one hand, a director like that gets me excited immediately. On the other, I’d much rather see them spending their time on something else. Does Duncan Jones make me care about a “Warcraft” film? Yes. Would I prefer he do something like the long-gestating Mute instead? That gets a more emphatic yes.

None of this is specifically about “Warcraft.” Most...

Epic! Duncan Jones is the new helmer for the video game adaptation of Warcraft
Whoa. Hold the frakkin' phone! After going through some serious turmoil with Sam Raimi, it looks like the Warcraft movie has found someone else to take the reins-- Duncan Jones. Jones has directed Moon with Sam Rockwell and Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal. I thought Moon was a fantastic debut from Jones, who seems to have a wonderful knack with the sci-fi genre. The script from Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-pax) is being kept under wraps so there's not much we can tell you about...

Safety Not Guaranteed review
Review Ryan Lambie Dec 20, 2012

A blend of drama, romance, sci-fi, mystery and comedy, Safety Not Guaranteed is a must-see winter movie, Ryan writes...

Ever since Hg Wells sent a Victorian hurtling into the future in his 1895 novel The Time Machine, science fiction writers - and later filmmakers - have been playing around with the time travel plot device. Wells didn't invent the time-travel story, but his notion of building a time machine certainly popularised it, and it's this idea that's popped up repeatedly in popular culture ever since.

Safety Not Guaranteed is the latest film in that grand tradition, incorporating elements of the romance and longing in Richard Matheson's novel Bid Time Return (filmed as Somewhere In Time in 1980), and perhaps even a dash of the 1960 film adaptation of The Time Machine in its production design.

Safety Not Guaranteed's eclectic cast of characters each have their private regrets and fading dreams.

Leavitt Rewriting “World of Warcraft”
Variety reports that Charles Leavitt (K-pax, Blood Diamond) has been tabbed to rewrite the existing script for the World Of Warcraft movie adaptation of the wildly popular video game.

A 2014 release sounds like a possibility, but considering the problems this project has had, and the recent departure of Sam Raimi, and that a search for a new director has not yet begun (though it is supposed to occur soon), I find it unlikely.

Legendary Entertainment Hires a New Writer for 'World of Warcraft'
Now that Sam Raimi isn't working on the World of Warcraft movie, it's no surprise that Legendary Entertainment seems to be starting over on the adaptation of the Blizzard Mmorpg video game. Previously, Saving Private Ryan screenwriter Robert Rodat was scripting the film, but now Variety reports Charles Leavitt, who recently adapted The Seventh Son for Legendary, will script the film, and the company is already excited about his take on the story, though no details have been revealed. The big news is the project is looking to move forward in the next few months, including finding another director now. Leavitt was also behind Blood Diamond and K-pax, so I can only assume it was his work on the aforementioned fantasy adaptation that landed him the job. But with how expansive the universe for World of Warcraft is in the game, with each player basically creating their own story as...

World of Warcraft Movie Hires Blood Diamond Writer
Sam Raimi recently revealed that he is no longer planning to direct a big screen version of Blizzard's "World of Warcraft" video game. But Legendary Entertainment (Man of Steel, Pacific Rim) is still eager to get the film made and has now hired Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-pax) to write the latest script. Even though the film has lost its director, Blizzard head Bobby Kotick is still excited about the new movie, stating that "[it's] important to Blizzard, it's important to me. [Legendary is] very excited about having a 'World of Warcraft' film. They've been very careful and thoughtful about the development process." Legendary is now searching for Raimi's replacement with hopes of officially greenlighting the film in the next few months. Meanwhile, the studio is also working on an adaptation of the "Mass Effect" video game.

There’s not a large part of me that wants to see the above image being brought to screen, but it’s hard to ignore millions of fans of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft. He remarked they had to move on since he was doing Oz the Great and Powerful and they seem to have done just that.

Variety reports they’ve brought on Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-pax and the upcoming The Seventh Son) to script the fantasy movie. They also already have plans to kick off a new director search by the end of the year. Activision Blizzard head Bobby Kotick, who had a cameo in last year’s Moneyball, said the very general statement of,...

Night Cap: Set of 'The Wolverine', Fallon for Oscars, Cohen for 'Hunger Games' and Red Band 'Bachelorette'
You can get a look at Hugh Jackman on the set of The Wolverine in Kurnell, Sydney here and here. Dutch director George Sluizer has completed what was River Phoenix's final film, Dark Blood and it will have its premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht on September 27. Phoenix died of a drug overdose during filming in 1993. [Cineuropa] Kristen Stewart will star in the '50s-set indie adaptation of William Styron's 1951 novel, Lie Down In Darkness for Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper. The film sounds like a real treat as Stewart's character, Peyton Loftis, is so insanely beautiful she becomes the object of her frigid mother's jealous hatred and the target of her father's incestuous, alcoholic lust. [Vulture] Jimmy Fallon is rumored to be in negotiations to host the 2013 Oscar with "Saturday Night Live's" Lorne Michaels producing. We'll see... [Los Angeles Times] Legendary Entertainment has brought on Charles Leavitt (K-pax) to...

Blood Diamond’s Charles Leavitt to Rewrite World Of Warcraft
Though we recently learned that Sam Raimi is no longer involved with the World of Warcraft film, Legendary Entertainment is still very much moving full speed ahead with the project. Variety reports that Blood Diamond screenwriter Charles Leavitt has been brought in to rewrite the script, which was originally drafted by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan). Apparently the studio was keen on Leavitt’s take on the material, “which could move the project forward in the coming months.” Raimi had to vacate the director's chair due to his commitments to Oz the Great and Powerful, but it's clear that Legendary is eager to finally get this thing in front of cameras. With Leavitt on the script, the search now turns to finding a director. Leavitt recently wrote the upcoming fantasy pic The Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges, for Legendary so he has a relationship with the studio. He also penned K-pax and The Mighty.

Sam Riley Will Lead Medieval Tale ‘Ivanhoe’ for Director Iain Softley
While I do think it’s really coming, the “breakout” phase of Sam Riley‘s career has taken a little while to actually commence — a great performance notwithstanding, I’m afraid biopics of Ian Curtis just don’t have the widest appeal — though, for his own good, the right people are taking attention. 2012 alone will bring Walter Salles’ On the Road and (most likely) Neil Jordan‘s Byzantium; plus, in a couple of years, he’ll be seen alongside Angelina Jolie in Maleficent. All are bound to reach a wider audience than Control, Brighton Rock, or that silly 13 Tzameti remake.

Now, ScreenDaily tell us Riley is signed and ready to lead an adaptation of Sir Walter Scott‘s classic novel, Ivanhoe, for which he’ll collaborate with director Iain Softley (K-Pax, Backbeat). Unless they’ve decided to deviate from the esteemed source novel — which, of course, the “esteemed” aspect has...

Sam Riley To Star In Ian Softley's Adaptation Of Sir Walter Scott's 'Ivanhoe'; Will Be Shot In 65mm
Sam Riley
Ever since transitioning from a music career with indie band 10,000 Things, Brit actor Sam Riley has carved out a fairly interesting CV which originated with an outstanding debut in Anton Corbijn's acclaimed Ian Curtis biography "Control" that lead to a run of flops that included sci-fier "Franklyn," action remake "13" and literary adaptation "Brighton Rock." He appears to be heading back in the right direction this year, though, starring as Sal Paradise in Walter Salles' long developing "On The Road" as well as working with Neil Jordan on mother-daughter vampire tale "Byzantium" and starring opposite Angelina Jolie in Disney's "Maleficent." Riley has now also lined up an upcoming teaming with Iain Softley ("Backbeat," "K-pax") for an adaptation of Sir Walter Scott's classic historical novel "Ivanhoe," in which he'll play the titular character....

How To Make A Feature Film With No Money – Part 8: Rehearsals
We had actors. So many actors. But what do we do with them? Did I mention… Argh?!

With our cast of 50 locked in we were looking straight down that ol’ filming gun-barrel. The novice wannabe director had to hitch up his pants and face the actors. And it seems that all of that panic, and waking from thespian-zombie nightmares was for naught.

Turns out that they are actually human beings. Who would’ve thought?

The rehearsal process for Bound By Blue was an eclectic one. Each of the main characters have very different perspectives of the world, and for three of our four cast this was rather distant from their own experience.; thus the acting.

Frank Magree played a being from another world; Richard Davies was a man with a phobia of being touched; and Debbie Zukerman, a woman bearing guilt over the death of her best friend. And it...

On The Rise '12: 10 TV Stars Who Should Break Through To The Big Screen Soon
With cinematic releases at the moment mostly involving the not-particularly inspiring likes of "That's My Boy" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," it's hard not to look to television for a little nourishment. The trouble is that the TV season has wrapped up for the year. While a few shows (namely "Girls") are still wrapping up, and others get underway shortly ("The Newsroom," "Breaking Bad," "Louie"), it's pretty quiet on the box, with cast and creatives focusing on making a hiatus movie, campaigning for Emmy, or just getting some sleep for once.

Still, with the 2011/2012 TV season done, we thought we'd shine a light on the small screen this week. Tomorrow, we're going to run down our ten favorite TV series of the last 12 months, but today, we wanted to pick a few stars of these shows that we think are set to break out as movie stars before too long,...

Chris Hemsworth To Topline Maritime Adventure 'In The Heart Of The Sea,' DreamWorks Circling
Can Chris Hemsworth graduate from franchise star to leading man in dramatic fare? The question is wide open right now, but whether audiences warm to him without the hammer of Thor or riding shotgun with Kristen Stewart through fairy tales remains to be seen. His first test via the excellent meta-horror flick "The Cabin In The Woods" didn't really work, and he'll get another shot later this year when the "Red Dawn" remake finally hits theaters. But his first real test will be in Ron Howard's racing drama "Rush" and should that go well, this will likely follow.

Deadline reports that the long-in-development adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick's "In The Heart Of Sea" now has Hemsworth attached to star, and DreamWorks in the mix to take on the movie. Set up way back in 2000 with Barry Levinson directing for The Weinstein Company, the story is based on the true event...

Jeff Bridges by Jeff Bridges! – CD Album Review
If someone were to mention the name Jeff Bridges to you in a conversation, the chances are you’d think of him acting. He’s an extremely well-known and established character actor & sometimes leading man, famous for his roles in movies such as: Tron, The Big Lebowski, and most recently, True Grit. As a marker for the quality of his acting prowess, he’s been nominated for six Academy Awards – and is one of the youngest ever actors to be nominated for one, at the age of 22, for The Last Picture Show. He has won an Academy Award for Best Actor in Crazy Heart and his role in that film also won him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a drama.

So, as you can see, he is a very talented man and is exceptionally good at what he does. However, Bridges isn’t a one trick pony. He...

Lady Gaga's Little Monsters Better Keep Their Damn Claws Off Adele
Happy Tuesday, my darlings. Let's dive right in, shall we? Oh, hey, speaking of diving, here is a nifty little photo essay on the faces divers make right after taking the plunge. In my expert opinion, it's a combo of O-face and Oops I Crapped My Pants. (Go To Public School)

Dustin continues his streak of awesome over at Uproxx with this perfect list entitled "10 Living Oscar Winner Who've Since Made At Least 5 Straight Rotten Films." It's just a thing of bea-what? Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, No You Did Not Insult K-pax. (Uproxx)

P.S. Happy Birthday, Kevin Spacey! (There be sound in that thar link, worker bees.)

I'm pretty sure Feist recorded her new album, "Metals," just for me. I mean, it comes out the day after my birthday (just like Beverly Hills Chihuahua did!), what further proof do you need? (Spin)

'He's a real chameleon'
From stoner to alien to all-American hero, Jeff Bridges immerses himself in every role. Here, his friends, co-stars and directors uncover the man behind the movies

Loyd Catlett

Stand-in, stunt double, assistant and/or actor in all Bridges's films since The Last Picture Show (1971)

I met Jeff on The Last Picture Show, which I had a small part in, and we hit it off really well during the rehearsal period and started hanging out together. He was trying to polish his southern accent for the film, so he was taking his cue from mine. I stayed in Los Angeles after we finished looping, and started pursuing an acting career. One day, while talking with Jeff on the phone, I mentioned that there weren't any parts coming my way; he suggested, since he was going to Europe to start a film, perhaps he could help if I was interested in being a stand-in for him.

Trailer: Horrible Bosses A Crazy World of Backwards Sexiness
Let’s face it: pretty much any movie where Colin Farrell plays a sexy Irishman and Jennifer Aniston struggles to reclaim her ’90s sex appeal has to be good, so I’m excited about the upcoming Horrible Bosses. In it, Jason Sudeikis has to deal with his mean, unkempt boss while Charlie Day is sexually harrassed by his own super-foxy superior. But hol’ up a minute. Hol’. Up. Colin is playing a greasy old man with a comb-over? You know what, I’d still take him. Or anyone in this star-studded cast. Even Kevin Spacey. (Whispered: If he’ll have me.) The movie also stars Jason Bateman with K-Pax Spacey as his boss, in an on-screen relationship that either has nothing to do with innate sexual tension or absolutely everything to do with it. Let’s pop this last sentence into @michcoll’s translator aaaaaaaaand: Yes. I will see it.

Jeff Bridges To Fight Crime, Undead Style
I've never met anyone who didn't love Jeff Bridges. And why wouldn't they? He's The Dude! And Rooster Cogburn! And he created Tron! And was in K-Pax! Okay, forget the last one, everybody has to pay the bills. He's been on a very welcome roll lately since his Oscar success, and that doesn't look like subsiding. Deadline are now reporting that he's being lined up to replace Zack Galifinakis (who has about four thousand potential films lined up) in R.I.P.D. - which stands for Rest In Peace Department. Amazing. Ryan Reynolds is leading the cast of this film which centres on a recently dead officer who, in return for 100 years of serving with R.I.P.D, can track down who killed him. He's accompanied by another officer who has been dead for hundreds of years, and presumably this is the Galifinakis role that I'd say will be rewritten a...

Tuppence Middleton & Alexandra Roach Replace Jones and Poots in Indie Movie Trap For Cinderella
Back in November, was announced that British up and coming actresses Felicity Jones and Imogen Poots had signed on for Iain Softley’s indie project Trap For Cinderella.

Since then, both Jones and Poots launched big buzz around them – Jones gained critical acclaim for her role in Sundance hit Like Crazy, and previews for this summer’s Fright Night are recommending an exceptional performance from Poots. Jones has been working on David Hare‘s Page Eight, and the comedy Cheerful Weather for the Wedding in the last few months, and was a candidate for the lead role in Snow White and the Huntsman which was finally taken by Kristen Stewart.

Poots seems is ruled out because of scheduling conflicts since she lined up for roles in A Late Quartet, The Laureate and Hello Darkness. And it doesn’t seem to have paid of for Softley, as Jones and Poots are exited,...

[Review] Casino Jack
If you were to imagine a B-version of Goodfellas in the world of politics, you’d get Casino Jack. George Hickenlooper‘s final film is a a hit-and-mess tale of rise and fall. The story of Jack Abramoff should have been an epic. Abramoff’s story has been served in an enjoyable enough fashion, but it never reaches its fullest potential. This is a fun, minor film at best.

The film chronicles the rise and fall of the D.C. lobbyist and his minions. Here Abramoff being portrayed in an almost lampoonist fashion by Kevin Spacey. Most of the past decade has been a rough and disappointing one for Spacey, after the 1990s seemed made just for him. His filmography got filled with much beloved gems, but then, slowly but surely, got saddled with total mediocracy: Pay it Forward, K-Pax, The Life of David Gale and, who could forget, Edison Force.

Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges in K-PAX - L'homme qui vient de loin (2001)
'Saturday Night Live' - Jeff Bridges / Eminem and Lil' Wayne Recap
Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges in K-PAX - L'homme qui vient de loin (2001)

['Saturday Night Live' - 'Season 36, Episode 10']

Nothing says "I was in a huge comedy film, then disappeared for a while (unless you count 'K-Pax'), only to resurface in an obscurish low budget buzz worthy film to get that street cred (and Oscar) back and parlay it into a second career: including two gargantuan holiday releases" more than a 'Saturday Night Live' hosting nod.

Jeff Bridges knows this better than anyone, and we're about to find out if he's still got any "Dude" left in him.

Kevin Spacey Is Keeping His Sexual Preferences To Himself, Thankyouverymuch
There have been Kevin Spacey gay rumors as long as there’s been Kevin Spacey. And when the Golden Globe nominee for Casino Jack recently met with an interviewer from the Daily Beast, said reporter was not interested in how great it must feel to be nominated. Instead, interviewer Kevin Sessumes asked the American Beauty actor why he refused to come out the closet, despite the fact that everyone and their mama “knows” that he’s gay. “People have different reasons for the way they live their lives. You cannot put everyone’s reasons in the same box. It’s just a line I’ve never crossed and never will,” replied Spacey. “I don’t live a lie. You have to understand that people who choose not to discuss their personal lives are not living a lie. That is a presumption that people jump to.” Yup, just the kind of...

Kevin Spacey Is Not a Very Good Actor | Smile. You're at Mr. Smiley's
The other day I stumbled upon the movie Beyond the Sea while watching TV. This film was made in 2004 and it starred Kevin Spacey in a story based on the life of 1950s singer Bobby Darin. It's hard to imagine any studio executive getting excited about this endeavor, but I suppose that Spacey had sufficient clout at the time to strong-arm somebody into letting him proceed with this vanity project. I'm sure that Spacey thought that it would be the sort of role that transformed his career, and sadly for him, I think it did. In the movie, which tanked at the box office, not only was Spacey that lead star and the director, but he was also the co-writer and co-producer of the thing, going so far as to use his own voice for all the singing numbers.

I watched this movie for a couple of minutes and then I watched no more.

[DVD Review] Adam
Adam (Hugh Dancy) is an Asper. No, not a member of an alien species the likes of Kevin Spacey in 2001’s K-Pax but a man struggling with Asperger's Syndrome. Asperger’s is a milder, higher-functioning form of autism that makes it difficult for Adam to read people’s emotions. This often renders him socially stunted and writer/director Max Mayer presents us with the store of Adam’s blossoming in this small personal romantic drama.

A challenge facing a film like this nowadays is the division between films like Forrest Gump and say, 2003’s Radio. It is difficult to avoid telling a story of a physically or mentally disabled individual who shows he/she is not disabled but rather differently-abled without coming off as maudlin or saccharine. To put it bluntly, films like Radio and the long-forgotten Giovanni Ribisi/Juliette Lewis romantic comedy The Other Sister go “full retard.” Adam,...

Kevin Spacey and Sacha Baron Cohen select short film contest winner: See it here!
Jason Musante Klein's 10-minute short film The Perfect Time was just named the winner of the 2009 Stella Artois Short Film Award Project. The Belgian lager company and Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions co-sponsored the competition (talk about paying it forward!), which featured a panel of glitzy A-list judges such as Laurence "Morpheus" Fishburne, Borat's Sacha Baron Cohen, Dame Judi Dench, "You're Beautiful" songwriter James Blunt, and, of course, Oscar-winner Spacey himself. The newly-minted winner is a native of upstate New York and attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a Bfa in Film/TV Production.
